Installation of vmware Linux tools

No matter what link on installing the tools on a centos 5.2/5.3?  What are the gains of the installation on a linux machine.  I always installed on a windows machine, but not on a linux machine.

Make a right click on the name of the computer does not seem to install.

The NIC shows txqueuelen:1000 without installing the tools when I did - ifconfig

TNT

don't forget to install VMware Tools on Linux, you will need the linux-headers for the installed kernel package

first of all, make sure to select the option to install VMware Tools (in this way the VMware Tools iso will be mapped in the virtual machine)

the command-line command (as root):

mount/dev/cdrom/mnt/cdrom

CD/tmp

tar zxf/mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools - xversion - < xxxx >. tar.gz

umount/dev/cdrom

CD vmware-tools-distrib

./VMware-install.pl

Answer the questions on the screen configuration

  • How to upgrade to vmware Linux tools?

I found how to install vmware tools in a Linux VM, but:

    (B) how do you improve on a Linux VM vmware tools? Just like install them?

    (C) require a reboot?

    (D) past discussions I've found say the VM would lose the network during this process, is that always the case?

    Hello

Please define linux because there is a very wide range of available versions and linux distributions. Unfortunately they are not all treated cells the same thing that your vmware tools must be adjusted on the kernel version used...

This can mean different steps depending on what you want to use.

    (A) usually of the host it will tell you if the vmware-tools is not up-to-date. If you have a desktop computer you can also see this in the Toolbox (the application to the taskbar you have under windows as well). Essentially if you update your kernel, you will need to update your vmware-tools. Sometimes if you update the host it is also advisable to update vmware-tools as well.

    (B) Oui, except if the kernel is too recent, then you probably compile things yourself. You can save yourself a lot of trouble here to stay on a version of linux supported.

    (C) Oui, to be able to use the new kernel, you need to restart

    (D) it depends, see my original question.

  • VMware Tools missing in the Installation of VMware Player 7

    Hi all

If I try to install/upgrade to update VMware Tools after the Installation of VMware Player 7 no ISO will be connected to the virtual machine.

I checked the directory of Installation of VMware Player for the ISOs of the tools but no ISOs are there.

Can you help me out of this Situation or is it a missing element in the installer?

    Thank you

    Michael

I just downloaded VMware-player - 7.0.0 - 2305329.exe and installed under Windows 7 x 64 and had no problems with it automatically detect installed VMware Tools to the guest operating system to be downloaded and successfully downloaded.  Having said that, have you tried? : Player > file > Preferences... > download now all components

Maybe something is blocking you to download the VMware tools.

You could also do it manually by using the following tools from VMware for VMware Player 7.0.0.

Unzip the file, then run the executable result and it will silently install the file without any indication that he actually did like this isn't really so planned how to do even if it works!

  • Installation of VMware in VMware Player tools

    Hello

I installed VMware Player v7, created a virtual machine (Windows) and wanted to install the VMware Tools via Player > manage > install VMware Tools... but nothing happens when I click on this option. The following 2 other methods I found in a Ko do not work either:

    • Enter D:\setup.exe where D: is the first CD-ROM drive configured for your virtual computer = > NOK as the virtual drive does not show the VMware tools.
    • Looking for the ISO file in the installation folder = > NOK: there is no ISO file.

After searching on the forum, I realized that VMware Player doesn't come with VMware tools and workaround I used was to install VMware Workstation without a license on another computer, find the file "windows.iso", copy it to the computer, mount it as a virtual drive and start the client installation.

The thing I don't understand is the reason for which the option is available in the VMware Player menu if the VMware tools are not? It's very confusing for people new to VMware and only install VMware Player...

You need not download VMware workstation to get VMware Tools in VMware Player!  VMware Player 7 is working fine on my system and had no problem downloading VMware tools, so maybe it's a problem specific to your environment/system that may block recovery.

I'm kinda a noob when it comes to linux, so I need some help with this

How to install vmware on asterisk tools (sound using centOS (I guess what I read is basically free Red Hat))

When you select Install/Upgrade VMware ESXi tools should attempt to mount the VMware Tools ISO file in the comments. You will need to decompress the files of vmware tools and install them manually. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1018414

Instead, I would set up the repository of vmware-tools and just use YUM to install and keep updated.

  • 5.5 R12.1.1 using VMware Linux installation

I wanted to just make sure that I am following the right steps to perform my first installation on Linux (in fact will see the OS linux for the first time). I'm still to start the installation. I have just completed the preparation of the part...

    1 download R12.1.1 media pack (40 files about 45 GB) 64-bit
    2 downloaded VMware 2.0
    3 downloaded Oracle Linux 5.5 for 64 - Bit

    The current system configuration:
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
    RAM: 4 GB
    Hardrives: C 180 GB > D > 30 GB

    My question:

    1. I intend to install VMWare through VMWare install Linux in the D: drive and then use an external hard drive to install R12. It is the right way? or is it possible to install Linux on an external hard drive to my setup, it's completely portable like this? What is the best approach?
    2. can I unzip the R12.1.1 media pack and create a stage directory in windows 7 and then share this intermediate directory for linux in order to start the installation of R12 on Linux? or do I have to create an intermediate directory within the Linux environment?

    Other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Salvation;

    1 download R12.1.1 media pack (40 files about 45 GB) 64-bit

Be sure to download the correct media pack (if your linux is 64-bit (x 86-64) that you need for the program to install 64-bit

    2 downloaded VMware 2.0

    You can use VMware workstation

    3 downloaded Oracle Linux 5.5 for 64 - Bit

    The current system configuration:
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
    RAM: 4 GB
    Hardrives: C 180 GB > D > 30 GB

    1. I intend to install VMWare through VMWare install Linux in the D: drive and then use an external hard drive to install R12. It is the right way? or is it possible to install Linux on an external hard drive to my setup, it's completely portable like this? What is the best approach?

You can use the external hard drive and do not forget that you have almost 300 GB of space for installation of the DEMO, when you create a server Linux on WMmachine give more space than 300 GB

    2. can I unzip the R12.1.1 media pack and create a stage directory in windows 7 and then share this intermediate directory for linux in order to start the installation of R12 on Linux? or do I have to create an intermediate directory within the Linux environment?

You can do this, or you can use the ftp program and move the scene to your VMware linux file and unzip it in there

  • VMware-config - tools.pl detects headers kernel version @@VMWARE @ UTS_RELEASE

VMware Workstation 6.5.5 - build 328052 running on Windows XP.

My Ubuntu 10.10 VM gave me a guest this morning that the installed VMware tools are updated. So I started the upgrade process.

Installation seems to go very well up to this point:

The installation of the VMware Tools 7.8.8 328052 build for Linux completed
successfully. You can decide to remove this software from your system at any
time by invoking the following command: "/ usr/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl".

Before you run VMware Tools for the first time, you must configure it by
calling the following command: "/ usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl". Do you want
This program to invoke the command for you now? [Yes]

I get lots of warnings of this type:

insserv: WARNING: script 'K01acpi-support' missing LSB tags and substitutions

And then it's time to compile the modules:

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
    kernel? [/ usr/src/linux/include] /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-24-generic/include

The directory of the kernel headers (version @@VMWARE @ UTS_RELEASE) does not match
your running kernel (version 2.6.35 - 24-generic).  Even if the module
compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel.

    For the record:

    root@Ubuntu:~# uname - a
    Linux ubuntu 2.6.35 - 24-generic #42 - Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 2 01:41:57 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

So how the VMware Tools config script can be educated to detect the correct version of the kernel headers?

    Thank you

    Alex

    Hello Alex,.

I hope that what follows will help you get a little further with the installation of vmware on your Linux prompt tools.

    # Needed for the construction of the kernel modules

sudo apt - get install build-essentials

    # Chdir to the directory correct wrt to your kernel running headers

    CD/usr/src/linux - headers-'uname - r' / include/linux

    # Add the utsreleases missing in the version.h file info

    Cat /generated/utsrelease.h > version.h

    # The build of vmware tools script also wants access to the file autoconf.h, so set up a symbolic link

    ln - s... /generated/autoconf.h

Now you can install VMware tools using the: /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl

Note that if some modules does not compile, you will need to find a patch for them. Use google and these forums for patches to vmxnet and al.

    Kind regards

This does not happen with newly released patches.

If you are not ready to upgrade the latest patches of the ESX host, you can also try to force load modules or try to recompile all modules by using the command "" vmware-config - tools.pl - compile ".

The other (crude) way is to get the last iso linux tools of any other host ESX-4 (with the latest patches) and goes up on the virtual machine and proceed with the installation.

  • 11i/R12 connection at the base of the machine during the Installation of VMWare host.

    Hello people,

I installed 11i and R12 on VMWare. My host in Windows XP operating system.

    11i details-
    VMWare/Guest OS - Windows XP
    Version - 11.5.10.2

    R12 Details-
VMWare/Guest OS - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3
    Version - 12.1.1

Everything works fine on the VMWare OS application and database (sqlplus).

The problem is that I am not able to connect to the data base (11i/R12) from the host machine. I am successfully able to run the application from the host machine after you put the entry in the file "hosts".

To connect to the database, I have installed the Oracle 9i on the host machine client and put the entry in the TNSNAMES file. ORA generated by 11i/R12, but even in doing so I am not able to connect to the database.

Is there a way I can connect to the database (installed on VMWARE) of the HOST Machine.

I've seen a single installation on VMWARE, where we are able to connect to the database from the HOST machine.
