  • How can I install Linux or Win7 on my PC of h8-1534 HP ENVY?

    Hi all

I try to install Linux or Win7 in my office h8-1534, because I really don't like Windows 8 System. I was working on this for the whole weekend, but I failed.

By installing the Linux system, I followed the instructions step by step:

    http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/2013/09/install-Ubuntu-Linux-alongside-Windows.html

I tried four editions of the Linux operating system: Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 and Mint mate 13 and 16. All have failed to find a partition, the partition list is empty, as shown in the following image:

While a successful installation should show this: (I have captured this image from the link above)

I think that this may be because I not create a partition for Linux properly, but I created a partition unallocated in the Windows8 OS by using the disk management tool.

By installing the OS Windows7, I followed the solution in this link:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-hardware/need-Win7-drivers-for-H8-1534/m-p/3070893#M70817

However, the Setup program cannot find the drivers during the installation process. Actually I have downloaded all the drivers on the site and stored in a USB drive and specify where the installer should find the drivers but the installation program may not always understand these drivers.

Can someone tell me what are the problems on my installation? Especially how to correctly install the Linux operating system in my PC H8-1534?  Thank you very much! I'm so disappointed now because I spend the whole weekend but still have no resolution.

    Thank you once again.

    Sincerely

    Xiankun

    Hi TheOldMan,

Thank you very much, the parameter should be set as you say.

As for the problem of the empty partition list, it must be resolved by typing "sudo dmraid-rE" in the Terminal. This need to run Linux on the compatibility mode, so we can run Terminal.

The above method is described in the following link:

    http://AskUbuntu.com/questions/162631/Ubuntu-12-04-installer-does-not-recognize-drive-partitions

    Thanks again for your help

    Sincerely

    Hello

To be honest I didn't install Linux on my laptop with Vista and XP.
Sometimes, I use Linux Live distribution called Koppix, and I m satisfied!

The devices have been recognized, and most of the drivers were included.

Maybe it s an option for you too

But Ubuntu might also be interesting for you.

  • Impossible to install Linux

I am installing Linux Slackware 10.1, but as soon as the cd is started / reading, the following message is displayed:

    Boot CD-ROM type: CD/Non-Emulation Booting
ISOLINUX 2.13 2004 12/14 isolinux: spec package failed, trying to wing loading...

    isolinux: disk error 01, AX = 42E1, car = 90
Initialization failed: press a button to try again...

I've tried the drive on another PC laptop Toshiba, and it worked without any problem.

It seems my BIOS, or maybe my CD drive (cd/dvd burner) is not compatible. I checked the BIOS update section, but without success - my model has no bios updates (I have a Satellite M45-S331). What can I do to install Linux on this laptop? I have already partitioned my hard drive and created Linux and Swap partitions.

I'm not a Linux Professional, but perhaps the following links can help you.

These links are of Toshiba Europe and Japan, maybe that your laptop is not listed because you have a U.S. model.

  • x 360: delete the recovery partition after installing Linux

    Hello

My x 360 laptop with 10 Windows works fine. I just installed Linux dual boot (w. Windows 10) on three new partitions. The scores are as below. E, F, G partitions are Linux.

    I have these questions please:

    1. is the recovery partition (D) no longer, now that I have partitioned the disk? (I did a recovery USB flash drive when I bought the computer)

    2. is it safe to remove the recovery partition (D)?

    3. There is also a small partition of 980 MB. What is c? Is it safe to remove?

    Thank you

    YCC

Sorry, no.  You can not recover by using the HP Recovery partition after you change the partitioning scheme.

As it is now, you might as well delete it.

It will not hurt to remove it now because the HP Recovery works doesn'y work in any case.

I know Macrium Reflect can backup and restore Windows and Linux distros because I have tried it, myself.

    Good luck

Just something important for you: recovery image is saved in this folder HDDRecovery. If you remove from here or change partition, you will not be able to reuse this image.

If you want to create this DVD using "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator' of recovery. When you have this DVD of recovery facilities, you can do what you want. Later, you can use this DVD to reinstall Vista.

You can try to install Linux, but please note that this model of laptop is not made Linux supported.

I tried to install the newest BIOS, but it seems pointless too. Please help :(

    Hi mielon
This is NOT a bios problem!
only a bit of configuration problem because linux has problems to load the correct module.
    easy to solve:
-If you use knoppix for exaple use the comandline tweak "fb1024x768" to force linux NOT to probe your grafics
-Once linux is installed correctly it starts once
-After that, you are able to install the grafics if there is a module for this card or manually choose
-Make sure that you choose the refresh rate of 60 Hz, otherwise damage your LCD

BTW: What distro do you use?

  • Cannot start with the CD after trying to install Linux

    Hello!

There is a very bad problem with my satellite 2450 s203 :( I have windows xp and then I decided to install Linux. I formatted all hard, but there were some problems with installing Linux (defective disc) and I had to reboot laptop. But then I have the Toshiba logo, there are the following: F1 Linux

But after pressing F1, nothing happens! :( Also I can not boot from my cd, even after changing the boot options in the BIOS! I can boot from the diskette. I tried discs from Microsoft for win98 startup disk, back 6.22, win xp sp1 & sp2 - but there were errors in these diskettes. (E.g. *.exe not found, but there is an archive *.) Ex_ and there is in this archive file capable of need. "But he does not see System!).

So, how can I now install an operating system on my laptop? If I have managed to install the cd drivers I think that the problem will be offered...
I am waiting for your reply, yours sincerely, X-Fau1t.

    Hello

It's very strange that you can not use the bootable CD. Please try to use recovery media delivered. When you turn on the device, please press the C button and keep it down for a few seconds. Normally on this way the device CD/DVD should be the first to start the procedure.

  • Can I install Linux in Satellite M200?

    Hi all

I want to install Linux in Satellite M200, but I don't know it's the driver in charge or not, please give me advice.

    Thank you
    Nhanntit

Of course, you can install Linux on the Toshiba laptop.
BUT you won't find any driver Toshiba or tools for the Linux operating system.

Toshiba does not support official Linux and that's why the pilots are not released.
You will need to use the Linux drivers from chipmaker like Intel IE

A hint; I use the Knoppix Live CD I n t need to install anything. I boot from this CD and the functional complete using Linux ca ;)

I want to install * Linux * but I couldn't find the drivers on the toshiba site.

Please tell me how to install * Linux * or another operating system.

    Thank you & best regards

Toshiba does not support Linux on the Toshiba laptop and so you will not be able to find the Linux drivers on the page of Tosh!

If you want to install Linux on this laptop, you will need to use the Linux drivers from the single chip factory.

  • How can I install Linux (Ubuntu or Kubuntu) and Windows on the same HARD drive?

    Hello world

I have Toshiba L20-148 and I have the Toshiba product recovery DVD and I have the DVD Ubuntu

I'm only able to install Linux or Windows XP Pro I have with the recovery DVD

and the only way I know to install both together by installing linux and windows... but every time I try to install windows, then factory data recovery, it is just the whole HARD disk and install windows only...

    any help?

    Hello

As mentioned that the Toshiba Recovery CD contains image and files during the installation of the OS on the HARD drive or the partition will be formatted. In this case all data will be deleted.
Therefore, you must create a second partition for the use of Linux. But be careful. Linux uses the special file format. Partition Magic 8 contains and supported the creation of the Linux partitions.

So if the new partition has been created, you can install the Linux
