HP G60-231WM slowness

I have a HP G60 one of my users has brought me to watch. It's about a year and it is very slow. I tried to run a scan for viruses on it, but that took more than a day, and it was not yet finished. I downloaded and burned an image of SeaTools CD and have done for a day now and it's not even over 50%.  I strongly suspect the hard drive shipped is bad controller or the drive itself is bad.

What is the warranty on this system and how it would be difficult to replace the drive? I am experienced work on desktop computers and the replacement of all sorts of material on those, but laptops are a different matter because it's so small and crammed together.

According to the age of the laptop, chances are that it is out of warranty, unless the user has purchased an extended warranty.  They can always get a replacement disk, by telephone or by visiting http://partsurfer.hp.com.  The hard drive itself would be very simple to replace: simply unscrew a few screws out the disc, then take the replacement and do the same thing in reverse.  Make sure just the laptop is unplugged and the battery removed, now sure to avoid electrostatic discharge.

    I sell my laptop to a family member and have wiped my hard drive and tries to perform a system recovery. When executing the partitian recovery, I get all the way to a screen that says that it is to install Windows, but it hangs just there for hours and hours. I tried this 3 times without success.

    Your other laptop recovery disks don't work on your dv5.

    I would like to try to wipe the entire hard disk including the recovery Partition and then reinstall the operating system using your recovery disks - they will re - create the recovery Partition during the installation.

    Access the application of disc kill you have installed in all programs, open the main folder, then select Bootable Disk creators, then the BACK Bootable CD Creator that will burn the ISO on a blank CD bootable.

    During the following process do not worry about all warnings as your recovery DVDs will reformat the HARD drive.

    Insert this CD into your PC which is unable to load the operating system properly. Close Notepad, and then start again to boot from the CD of Killdisk and follow the instructions on the screen to kill disk.

    A brief description of the process here is Killdisk.

    Use it to wipe the entire hard drive (f10) - ( make sure to include all partitions and then start the process - this may take a few hours!).  At the end of this process, you should see a single HARD disk, not partitions.

    When the process is complete, remove the CD from Killdisk, insert your first HP recovery disk and then hold the power button until the laptop turns off then restart the laptop to try the installation again.

    Scenario:

    No matter what laptop is connected first, the * instant * the other laptop is trying to open a session, the TWO lose wireless connectivity and fail repeated to reconnect attempts (Vista offers options like ' get automatically the new IP address... blah blah blah 'or' Reset Adapter wireless... blah blah blah "-without success in both cases").

    Now check this: BEFORE, I bought new HP G60, I got an HP DV9308nr with Windows Xp SP3 and a USB wireless card (old WiFi card internal had, uh, 'grilled' so I replaced it with a Linksys WUSB100) - SAME router, SAME settings - NO problem at all!

    I tried WEP, like my machine (#2 above), his only; It seems like WPA/WPA-2, mine seems not - takes more time to authenticate, and then with WEP. I have not tried MAC address 'mapping', envisaged a "wall interface" (router snap and/or offend computer laptop into the nearest wall) LOL! Also seems no joy with assignments to static IP and security (WEP or WPA)... I'm a 'power user' or a 'experienced networking type dude"- but I'm stumped! Help! Thank you...

    Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
    a process that solves the problem.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
    Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
    RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

    Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
    cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

    Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
    ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
    contacts data with a pencil eraser.

    Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
    manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
    Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

    Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
    the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

    Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
    the correct registry entries for your car.

    Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
    as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

  • Extreme slowness, accidents, crashes, restarts, etc (G60-458DX)

    I have a laptop G60-458DX that is under warranty, and I wonder if the processor or something on the motherboard is defective, or if she suffers from a problem of overheating. The OS is Vista x 64, and resettlement has not corrected anything.

    In recent months the following symptoms have increased in severity:

    • Slow. After a start, it's good, but speed quickly degenerates to a point where it takes 30 seconds to perform mundane tasks, such as renaming a file on the desktop, open Explorer, etc.
    • Blocking issues. Sometimes this happens, always accompanied by garbage on the screen and a constant tone coming from the loudspeaker internal.
    • Crashes. To produce more than they should (I get messages about background processes crashing, services stop unexpectedly, etc. every hour).
    • Restarts and BSOD. Sometimes the system just stops without having to reboot, nothing else. Other times, I get a BSOD. The most common that I see are KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP, KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR and PANIC_STACK_SWITCH.

    The symptoms you describe as slow down, freezing, programs crashing are quite consistent with a hard failure.  Personally, replace the hard drive would certainly be the first thing I would try to fix it.

    I think I have a type of malware or something because my computer started running slower and I continue to be redirected to Web sites randomly when I use Google or Bing.  Records on the right side of my Start menu as 'Computer' and 'My Documents' disappeared.  I also get this an update for Windows live which stops at 57%.

    Problem:

    There is no restore point on my computer if I want to perform a system recovery back to the image of the manufactuer.  I downloaded the USB recovery Flash Disk Utility for my model.  Now I want to recover my computer via USB, but when I run the advanced recovery mode he's trying to restart my computer.  Given that my computer will not shut down properly, I end up having to press the power button until it stops my computer and the recovery does not continue when I start my computer again.

    I tried to use F11, but then I just end up on a screen that says either press on enter to choose to continue with Windows 7, press tab to move to the bottom of the list or press ESC for more options.  I tried all three and they eventually freeze the screen and keys are starting to make a Summit high-pitched beep when I try to press one, so I end up having to force my laptop to stop.

    I also tried to make recovery by pressing F8 and then choosing the "repair your computer option.  Which causes my computer screen go black, and I end up having to force it to close again.

    Is it possible to restore my computer to factory settings?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Yes, it would be the battery.  The relatively heavy bar that is normally removed retainers of slide.

    From what you described, I am afraid that your PC needs a lot of work (probably a bad motherboard), and you'd be much better to buy a new laptop or refurbished, than to pay a lot of money to fix yours.

    I guess you would have to pay more than $200 for repair.

    According to the specifications of the chipset, chipset will support the memory at 800 MHz and processors, so based on that info and the info in the manual, you can install up to the T5900 in your notebook.

    Memory... 2 x 2 GB, but I don't know if it's DDR2 or DDR3, so you will need to confirm what type of DDR memory is.

    Get the memory at 800 MHz for optimal performance - if DDR2, which would be PC2-6400.

    Do all the updates above should make a decent difference in overall performance.

    Hi all!

    Hoping that someone who has a lot more of an idea about this can help me because I can't really find what I need to fix this!

    Basically - I have a computer old enough HP G60 laptop running Windows Vista and using some providers of internet (SKY and Virgin Media) I can connect to the internet, but it only shows Local only. (I don't have this problem when it is connected to BT Openworld is told by the way, not sure of the relevance of this?) I can connect to my wifi with my iPhone without problems, so currently connect to the internet using the USB cable, but it's so slow!

    Is it possible to update the Atheros driver for this problem?

    Check to make sure that the new driver has replaced a former and indicates a date of version 2011.

    If she does not, uninstall the device by right clicking on the Atheros wireless card, select uninstall, reboot and install the new driver.

    You can find some great laptops sales after Christmas. The first thing to consider is what screen size you want. I suggest a 15.6 for general use for a laptop that is moved only occasionally. If it would serve only to the House, I would say even a 17 inch since demand for big laptops dropped and are some of the best deals on laptops 17 inches.

  • HP G60 100em power failure during startup

    My friend gave me his 'brick' HP G60 laptop 100em, had told him the motherboard was fried and it would cost a lot to fix, so he bought a new and gave it to me to see if I could fix it. Strangely, it starts on the first attempt and load of Vista, which was very slow and unable to connect to the internet wifi. However, a system restore fixed these problems. HP battery check pointed out that I need to replace the battery, and if I brought out the cable from the laptop turns off immediately. I left it overnight and now if I press the power button, it turns on for 1-3 seconds and then turns off as if she had no power at all. I tried to run without battery and reset the BIOS (by removing and re - insert the small battery) nothing works.

    I had questions on this cell here before and came to the conclusion that the video was fried (it was accidentally connected to an HDMI output and not the entry) but Vista has been fully fuctional after a restoration seems to dispute the fact that. Is it possible to repair this laptop? I'm more inclined to buy a new motherboard and install it myself rather than buying a whole new laptop.

    EDIT: At the start of the battery (without adapter) power button and 'on' LED lights up white and Wifi lights orange very weakly. This will remain until the laptop is off, but the display will be blank (without backlight either)

    Usually the manuals say to remove the CMOS battery and leave it for five minutes to clear CMOS. I'd be more inclined to leave overnight after pressing them and holding the button power (15 seconds) to drain current in CMOS eeprom chip.

    You are almost at the stage ultimate make or break effort.

    If clearing the CMOS rejuvenate the laptop system board then he only has value as a paperweight.

    Try this second in normal startup mode: what happens if you create a new user account and log in as that user, the problems go away?

    I'm not sure I'd worry about the plane crashes - it is listed as beta software

    Slow mail. 9.3: if I remove large attachments in emails that will make e-mail faster turnaround? I have around 100 emails in email with attachments to file 15 MB image on average software.
