HP laptop: HP G42 415DX hangs at post

The system has been and is still blocking position up-down left, said - ESC for the start menu.

Battery is dead - AC - did it with and without the battery in the device.

I put in the new drive hard windows 7 ENT / x 64.  Runs great when it comes to windows.  When you restart - same thing - hangs on post.

I checked the order - hard drive to boot first.  I flashed the bios for more later.  I ran the diagnostic boot test that all previous phases.  I also reset the bios to load the default values.  Nothing seems to work it to make a stop/restart and get past the post.

After you click ESC to continue - it will start right from windows.  In the diagnostic selection menu.

Really baffled here.  All solutions?  It is NOT a WINDOWS PROBLEM.  It is not a problem of MEMORY or HARD DISK.

Thanks for any help.

Well - I'll answer my problem for me.  I figured out it's a faulty power brick / cord.  Needs no summer of drawing enough juice for the initial post after turning on the power button.  After trying 2 different hard disks, flashing the bios, running the edge of diagnosis - I said what the hell - replace power cord, since I have one here in my office.

Instant results.

BAM.

Thanks Joe!

  • Support troubleshooting problem to display PC laptop HP G42-415DX

    Hello, I have a HP G42 - 415DX Notebook PC with Windows 7 64 bit.

I have no display of the image on the screen and need help to understand where the problem lies.

I updated the Bios and installed all corresponding updates.

I reinstalled the graphics driver on the HP drivers section.

I showed a flashlight on the screen to see if it was just the light back, but there is still no image, the scrfeen looks like it's turned off.

I have the VGA output is plugged in and it works fine. I hit F4 and is currently on the computer only, even if the image of the screen is just all the external screen.

Is there a troubleshooting method to see if it's something on the motherboard as the graphics card or the monitor itself without buying it? Or am I just a bit stuck guessing and hoping that it works?

    Appreciate any help

    Thank you

Welcome to the HP, MG forum.

Our own Distinguished Professor HaggisCat addressed this type of issue and explains what could happen in the Post below.  This can help with the diagnosis on your own system.

Display on the laptop monitor displays briefly, then disappears at startup

Excerpt of the Post, HaggisCat comments:

The external screen works with Windows, which means that the video card and motherboard are very good. The laptop screen has disappeared, the backlight (s), the controller or the cable is defective. A part or the combination can cause a black screen.

Because you can't see anything with the light from the flash on the screen, the cable has failed or the screen itself needs to be replaced.

If you put a new screen and it still does not work then replace the inverter and if you still get nothing, the cable is the last thing that this will cause.

Sorry, sometimes the only way to diagnose a problem's substitution, but before you go out and buy new parts, I always suggest that you take it to a reliable repair shop to get a second opinion.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you face is that Microsoft provides only pilots with the most basic features and what you really need for these features is the specialized drivers written for the specific in your HP PC hardware - and unfortunately, there is no driver HP Win10 for your PC. HP only guarantees the compatibility of Win10 for machines manufactured after August 2013. HP is not no matter what timetable indicating when, or IF, they will produce drivers for older machines.

This means that your PC is probably NEVER going to be fully functional under Win10 because the drivers he needs for these features simply do not exist!

Hi, I have a laptop HP (HP G42) and is having a problem, that is to say "Power on Password" which can be completely locked out of the computer.

After trying to enter the password for 3 times and I got an error code.

    My error code is [68157705].

Y at - there someone out there who knows how I can remove/get rid of it?

Be sure to enter the BIOS and remove the password. This way, you will avoid having the same thing happen.

  • Satellite A100-TA7 hangs at POST after BIOS update

Kind of tech swavy, I know that my chances are very low to solve this but this is.

I decided to update the BIOS on my laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-TA7(PSAA8C-TA702C) to the latest version available (6.00).

I did it because I've heard of people have better luck doing their job of FN keys on linux with the latest BIOS.
The installation is completed normally (went through all the steps, wrote to all 21 blocks) without any error, but after the reboot, I noticed that it is now displayed at the Toshiba logo screen.

The blue progress bar moves twice but got caught then about 1/3 of the way through.
To see how bad the damage was, I Press esc at the beginning of the POST and saw that it gives me the right Version of the BIOS (6.00).

He also told me that "no TPM or TPM has problem" and "2039 M RAM Passed system."
It then displays the message "Press to enter SETUP" (which makes the message disappears, but otherwise doesn't do anything.

If I press f2 during the Toshiba logo screen, it replaces the message at the bottom with "Please wait" and nothing happens even after an hour of waiting.
(Which makes sense, because before the bar blue everything would load before entering the CMOS settings). The thing is that the BIOS is not really "freeze", it gets stuck just at a specific place (I know because I can press F2 even after an hour of waiting and the laptop meets it by displaying "Please Wait".)

Someone at - it no more things I could try? Thank you

PS. I tried clearing CMOS too. It of very long history and it does not sound good

    > I decided to update the BIOS on my laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-TA7 (PSAA8C-TA702C) to the latest version available (6.00).
I wonder about your BIOS version that I know, that the laptop series is designed for the Canadian market. It s a Canadian series and the BIOS or drivers should be downloaded from the Canadian site of Toshiba!
Bad BIOS could cause issues like this it describes your message above!

    > I did it because I've heard of people have better luck doing their job of FN keys on Linux with the latest BIOS.
Keys FN Toshiba need driver Toshiba and it turns out that Toshiba driver pages don t offer the drivers for Linux distributions, so I put t believe in the story spread by any people.

    I don t want to write a long story, so I would cut this now;
Is that something was happening during the BIOS update process.
Either you have used a procedure to update the BIOS or wring wrong and so the laptop can not pass the MESSAGE

You will need to contact the local ASP to solve this problem, maybe you're a lucky guy and the technician should Flash the ROM module but in the worst cases, your motherboard is damage and must be replaced. :(

    Good luck

  • Laptop HP G42-303DX system restore error 0x800700B7

I have a laptop HP, model G42-303DX, running Windows 7.

When Windows tries to start, it displays the message: Windows Error Recovery / cannot start Windows.

Then StartUpRepair launches and research about a minute for the problems.  Then it displays the message "Startup Repair cannot fix automatically.  I gave options: (1) sending info (can not since I can't it connect to the Internet) or (2) not to send (should I select).

I click on Details of the issue and see the following:

The next screen to appear is: HP Recovery Manager

I tried to do five different restorations, starting with the most recent restore point and working up.  All restore attempts failed.  In 3 of 5 attempts, I got the error code: 0x800700b7.  And in 2 of 5 attempts was the failure code: 0x8000ffff.

I created a bootable (Kaspersky Rescue v10) DVD rescue disk and run a deep scan of 4 hours to check the virus, Trojans, etc, and it found nothing.

When this laptop was purchased from Best Buys, we have not all discs.  I'm sorry to say that we did not create recovery disc.  I checked on the HP support site to order a set of recovery discs and can be found only for Windows 7 in the 64-bit version.  I don't know if this PC has been configured as a 32-bit or 64-bit machine.

In addition, I use the Recovery Manager to create DVDs from backup files on that PC.  This problem started in December, and according to my daughter-in-law (the only user of that PC), it gave him no problems until this.

I would REALLY appreciate any help on this... I'm a little at my wits end.

    Thank you

  • HP Mini: How to turn off a Mini HP laptop in case he hangs up?

My HP Mini laptop hooked up a couple of times.  In this case, I have no choice but to disconnect the power cable so that the laptop will stop automatically when the power has dried up.  I understand that this is not the right approach.

Could someone please explain any alternative approach to stop HP Mini laptop when he hung up?

    Thank you

Hold switch to the left for longer than four seconds. The mini will stop. It's about the safest way I know to stop your laptop down when it is hanging.

Do not know what cause him hangs before your OS is corrupted.

  • HP G42-415DX: in a Setup dual monitor, perhaps armored secondary monitor white screen?

I have a Setup dual monitor, where the laptop is tied to a 2nd monitor (TV) via HDMI. I mainly use the 2nd monitor. Can I empty the 1st monitor (laptop screen) screen, yet still use the 2nd monitor with lid open to access the keyboard?

(I noticed with parameters changed in the Panel of Win7, I can close the lid without cutting [sleep, Hibernate or shutdown] computer and had to lower the monitor display 2nd to adapt to the screen.) But to use the keyboard, open the lid of the portable computer, which involved the 1st screen)

    Thank you

    Hi Kalad,

I think the same as you do sometimes, especially when I watch a movie and you want that it will display on the bigger screen and the simultaneouly have the laptop screen is off.

As you need to use the keyboard of the laptop and want the second poster only, which suggests to select the "Projector" only option in the pop-up menu by pressing the Fn + F4 key.

& to come back again having two screens or single screen press Fn Key & F4 on your keyboard and select "Extend" or 'Unplug the projector' options respectively.

I am an employee of HP.

    Kind regards
