HP Pavilion 15 laptop: HARD drive SSD update for HP Pavilion 15 laptop

Hey there!

I own a HP pavilion 15 notebook PC, [model number: F6C42PA #ACJ]. Currently, it is equipped with a 1 TB SATA HARD drive. I was going to upgrade to SSD. Kindly guide me through the steps and the compatible products. Also is there a simple way to just walk into an authorized service center of thm Center and ask to do the upgrade?

Thank you

Here is the Service Manual:

Any form factor of 2.5 in SATA SSD will work and I recommend a Samsung Evo 850.

http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820147372&cm_re=Samsung_850_Evo-_-20-147-372-_-product

There is a link for all sizes available on the page. I recommend that at least a 256 and 500 are quite affordable nowadays.

Where do you live? Country only, please. I heard that HP Service centers will perform memory and SSD upgrades on these 'closed' systems but I don't know where all of them or what they would charge. You should be able to find a competent local computer shop to do. It does not put security at risk, but the warranty is not revoked if the work is done properly, without damage to the laptop.

    Need help. Thank you.

What mean of these messages, is that these "Firmware updates" do not apply to material in your specific computer. The two "Seagate Firmware Updates" are respectively for the hard drives of 250 GB / 320 GB and 500/750 GB hard drives. Your computer comes with a 1 TB hard drive, which is not subject to updates of the firmware. The "PLDS Optical Drive Update" is for another drive to CD/DVD only installed in your computer and also does not apply. There is no further action to take... Do not attempt to install these updates of firmware, because they do not apply to the hardware in your computer.

  • 15 - n259se: hard drive SSD update

    Hello

I recently bought this laptop (15-n259se) and have been impressed in all of his performances. I plan to upgrade its HDD to the SSD. I've read a lot about this on the forum here but had a few questions before I have eventually go ahead.

I checked the manual of the product with the product below and could only found that its uses a SATA port.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04438537

Thus, the Samsung EVO 850 (500 GB) will work on this system?

As the hard drive for this laptop is not easily accessible by the user, another thing I read here that you can replace the DVDRom with a caddy and then install SSD while retaining the original hard drive. I tried looking for a shopping cart but did not find any. Can someone let me know if there's any cart that is compatible with this system and also if there is anything that I should be informed during the implementation.

    Thank you

See page 61 of the manual to see how the hard drive is in the laptop. You can use any interface SATA 2.5 inches in width and 7 or 9.5 mm thiick drive hard or on SSD. The Samsung 850, in my opinion, is the best on the market, then Yes, I would receommend you get.

I don't have such good news for the caddy optical drive for a few reasons. First of all, the optical drive SATA port uses a slower SATA (SATA I) protocol because it is all that is needed by an optical drive. If you put an SSD in there you will get all the benefits quickly. In addition to this, you would be able to use the SSD for storage since if you put a hard drive or SSD in the optical drive bay that is not bootable. If you do not need the DVD player, you must put the original hard drive in the optical Bay and then put the SSD in the main location on page 61. Yes, it is not an easy thing to do and should probably be done by an experienced laptop technician. However, the manual shows all the steps, and if you are very careful, it can be done by a competent first-timer. You are questioning the warranty that I must warn you.

It is an example of optics to the hard drive adapter that you can use:

Ugggh.  I have a 27-inch iMac late 2011 and the hard drive was updated with a new SSD.  The integrated cd/dvd had to be taken out.  I then bought a thought of superdrive, it should work.  It's frozen on my iMac!  Gee, who could have possibly guessed that would happen?  I tried all kinds of silly workarounds, I found on the internet, but still it will not register the stack of DVDs and other discs I have.

If you're like me and upgraded your iMac that came with a cd/dvd drive internal... so he has to come out to give way to the fusion or the SSD drive, do NOT buy the apple superdrive.  It will work with your computer!

Think I'll get a laptop samsung...

Ironic, isn't it? Own Apple SuperDrive will not work with Apple computers. Shame you don't check here first that we would have warned you. Return Apple overpriced and buy a nice third-party player for a third of the price. I love the LG units. You can consider a loading plate because they are more reliable, and you can use these pesky disc when you get one.

  • Acer recovery disks do not install Windows 7 on a new hard drive SSD

    Hi all!

I have Ace Aspire 5742 G laptop and I have problems to install the Windows 7 operating system on my new hard drive SSD (I bought the SSD because the original hard drive is defect and do all the time... blue screens)

For the factory restore, I use the restore disks. I burned the discs a few years back when the laptop has insisted me to do (using eRecovery or something, in total 3 dvds).

Testing of computer to install the operating system with the DVD (asked to insert a dvd and then press a key). The real problem is that the installer will just in loops, restart and eventuallyfreezing in the end...

    Restart--> Acer--> Windows logo takes over... files-> from windows-> reboot-> etc.

Which continued for more than an hour (on the first dvd!) and all of a sudden that it froze right on screen "starting windows..." I had to restart and stars on again once.

I can still use my old formatted HARD drive, should I do the new set of recovery disks or use a USB?

Thanks for the answers in advance!

So I thought (with the help of Google) that the problem was that I had installed the new DDR3 memory game. When I changed them back to the original ones (2x2gb) everything worked smoothly.

Do I USE creative cloud as an external hard drive pour update my operating system?

The main cloud Creative program must be installed on your system's main drive - then you can't have the whole installation on a separate disk.  Applications can be installed on a different disk.

Hello! I want to change my ram and my hard drive. The ram will be 8 GB and 2 TB drive, I wonder if I used the hard drive, if supported? and with regard to the ram, if I have to buy one that is compatible or anyone served me?

You are located in the United States? If not, where? Country only just so we can connect you to a source for hard disk and memory.

Page 62 on the hard drive and 66 for the memory.

You must open the door to the memory and see if you have a 4 gig stick or a 2 x 2. If you have 1 x 4, you just need to get another to have 8. If you have 2 x 2, you need get 2 x 4.

You need DDR3-1333 mhz SO-DIMM memory and you need a 2.5 inch width 9.5 mm thick hard SATA. 2 TB disks are not really available on the market. 1 TB is about as big you'll find there.

Post back with your country of residence, and we can connect you to a good online store. If your hard disk does not well at the moment you use the HP Recovery Manager to burn DVDs to put the software on the new recovery disc.

  • Pavilion 15-ab057nr: How can I change for one SSD HARD drive and update my RAM?

Hi, I would like to change the hard drive of my computer (Pavilion 15-ab057nr) for one ssd and also add another module of RAM. The problem is that I've never opened a laptop before, and I don't know where to start, or what should I do after I opened the computer. I don't know if anyone could help me by giving me a guide on how to perform these upgrades, every little detail would be useful. Thank you.

    Hi @IYMF,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab057nr and tried to help you! I looked in your question about upgrading the internal hardware. I understand that you are looking to upgrade your hard drive to a Solid State Drive, as well as adding another module of RAM.

Here is a link to your Service Manual. You can find the specifications for compatible discs on page 49. Please note that this laptop model doesn't support that type hybrid Solid State Drives.

Maintenance manual, page 55, there will be a list of the size of RAM supported, but also a guide on the replacement of the RAM. Up to 16 GB of RAM may be supported in a 8GB x 2 configuration.

On pages 46 to 50 of your maintenance manual, you will find instructions on how to remove the rear panel of the laptop, as well as, instructions on the removal of the original hard drive.

I also found this Vidéo Guide giving visual aid on the replacement of the hard disk. The model of laptop in the video is not exactly the same as the model that you have, but it can provide assistance, however.

Please let me know how it goes.

You can say thanks for trying to help by clicking on the Thumbs Up below! .

    Hello

Well, life has changed. I have still a few laptops around and replace the HARD drive on them is a 5 minutes task. Now, for this machine, please see the page #105 of the first textbook on the following link:

  • HP Pavilion 15 not: SSD update for HP Pavilion 15 laptop

    Hello!

I use PC HP Pavilion 15 Notebok (F6C42PA #ACJ). It came with Win 8.1 pre-installed on a 1 TB HARD drive. I updated the OS to win 10 and now upgrade my HDD to SSD. I was wondering if TS256GSSD370S Transcend and Samsung Evo 850 is compatible with my laptop. Also how to enable AHCI mode? I don't see such an option in the BIOS.

    Thank you.

15 - n203tx is the model. Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

The compartment access hard drive appears on p. 59. As you can see, it's a bit more involved.

Don't fall into the trap of overthink. The laptop is in ahci mode and you can not set otherwise. With Windows 10 an SSD will be automatically recognized as such and optimized. Your question only real tech is to get the software on the new SSD. After the back if you need some help with that.

The Samsung Evo 850 is my choice, but the Transcend would work too.
