  I have a HP laptop - 15-r213ns (ENERGY STAR) with windows 8.1

  Last night, after an update of windows, the shortcut of the brightness (F2 and F3) volume (F7 and F8), wifi (F12) and keys all others have stopped working.  I can always change the brightness and volume using windows, but I can't do more using the keys.

  The function keys are working, as refresh F5 or F3 Browse. I noticed that before I had to press the FN key for this and now she does without the FN + Fx, so I guess that the update of windows must have changed something here.

  As far as I know using Win7 you must press FN every time when you want to use the FN keys. There is just to Win8 option to change that and use the FN keys without maintaining the FN key.

  I just got the x120e and I have been through the fixed auto-éclaircissant himself. After that, I hit the Fn + Home and adjusted to my preference. He was not on the charger when I did so I was in a dark room I had the brightness down. Later in the day, I plugged it in to charge and I went to make it brighter. The brightness does not change however. All other agents Fn + F keys work. But not both for brightness. The strange thing is, I shut down the computer, whereas standby mode, then opens it again and it was really brilliant and I had to almost squint, but once again the keys did not work to lower it. If you can still read the 25 characters on the COA affixed Microsoft Windows product key at the bottom of the computer, you can install Windows 7 Home Premium using this key.   SJTemp, welcome to the forum.

  The GT 730 graphics card requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS / Legacy.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  There is no way to upgrade the BIOS in the UEFI.  I suggest you to contact EVGA Tech Support (1-888-881-3842) to see that if they can help you make the card work.  Otherwise, who needs no UEFI cards of the GT 640.

• HP Pavilion Slimline S5: Internal HARD drive failure, PC does not start

  Drive HARD internal of my HP Pavilion Slimline S5 failed and died recently (bought in 2011). My HP warranty is long gone.

  The splash screen has shown this message:

  1720-SMART hard detects an imminent failure

  Failed attributes: # 05

  I have several questions about this:

  1. Is it only caused by HARD drive failure? I want to replace it myself, but I don't really know if there are other parts to replace. Or it will be better to bring it to the computer shop to do carefully check?
  2. I can replace it with Seagate Barracuda 3.5 "(7200 RPM, 1 TB, SATA 3 or 6)? I think that the current HARD drive is Hitachi.
  3. I still need to transfer Windows OEM once the HARD drive is replaced?

  According to the packing of the Seagate, it might come with the software.  But if it is OEM drive then found the software by clicking HERE.  In general, I use a USB adapter for hard drive to clone if the PC will not support an additional drive.  Given that a number of incomplete model for the PC, it is difficult to find accurate info, but the Pavilion Slimline S5 I checked all have a motherboard with additional SATA ports.  Just have a spare SATA cable and power on the power port and try the cloning software.  Make sure that the drive is not touch a conductive element.  Usually, I place the additional reader on a cardboard box.

  Install the new drive as a replacement for the existing drive and connect everything as it is now.  Then connect the old drive in the manner discussed.  Boot from the CD created with cloning tools.  If the old drive is cloned stll, then when the software is finished, remove the old drive connections to see if the drive can start the computer.  If this is not successful, try to run the recovery screen (F11) BIOS boot manager.  If that does not work, use the Recovery DVD set brand when the computer was new.  If you did this, or lost them, then see THATto order a series.
