HP Pavilion DV6: DV6 XG247AV 4000 Max Memory

Hello!

I have an old HP Pavilion DV6 4000, number of product XG247AV, and I want to improve my memory.

I know that this laptop has 2 slots and memory by specifying:

-Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz can handle 16 GB of RAM

http://Ark.Intel.com/products/52219/Intel-Core-I7-2630QM-processor-6M-cache-up-to-2_90-GHz

States - HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service of Guide that the laptop can handle 8 GB of RAM

http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02680466

But, in searching the Internet I found some users with DV6 4000 and 16 GB of RAM.

How can I be sure that my latptop will support 2x8GB 1333 MHz SODIMM?

Thank you!

Other than trial and error, no. Suppose I said that Crucial tried and failed.

    A greeting to all.

First I want to apologize for opening a new thread for this question, but after research and reading several possible solutions in this forum and elsewhere, I was not able to find someone, at least in my case.

According to the manual of your laptop, you can expand the memory up to 8 GB, so I finally decided to purchase two 4 GB modules and install them in the slots. After that I installed it:

    -(V. F.29 07/11/2011) BIOS detects 8 GB.

-Other software (for example, CPU - Z) also detects the 8 GB.

-Windows 7 64 - bit, also detected indicating that it is 8 GB installed but 3.93 GB available.

-Resource monitor shows 4163 MB reserved for the material.

    I tried:

D ' Exchange modules in the slots.

-Check the system update and drivers on the HP website.

-Enter in the advanced options check msconfig and disable the memory limit.

-Enter advanced options, check msconfig and enable the limit memory minus 100. Interestingly, when active, gives me the default 8192 MB. If I accept and enter again, changed it to 0 or, sometimes, 3 GB.

-Three above options in various combinations.

I read a lot of comments, and not only for HP products, but other teams and go through all the solutions above or 32-bit systems.

Could someone help me with this problem?

    Very grateful in advance.

    Kind regards.

    Diego.

    Hi @Mrstenter.

Thank you for your reading. Finally, I changed one of the memory card in the store and the laptop has recognized the 8GB now. I don't know what was the reason, or why the BIOS recognized the 8 GB, although apparently a problem with the memory card.

    Thanks for the help.

    Best regards.

    Diego.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 6080 ep: update of HP Pavilion dv6 6080 ep memory

    Hello

I own a HP Pavilion dv6 6080ep. It came with 4 GB of RAM and it has an intel processor i5. In order to do an upgrade of RAM I get Manual HP on memory full capacity. It is said that for this model, with the i5 processor it could go up to 16 GB of memory. When I searched for the spare part of HP, he said that both the 621569-001, the 4 GB and the 634091-001, for the 8 GB, should be replaced by 641369-001 and 670034-001. Let me stress to you that these replacements have slightly different form of the original. I searched among the brands of memory there, specifically Kingston and crucial that said for this model I can get 8GB in mind. I think sincerely lost now. The amount of memory can my laptop really gets and there is no record of RAM I should know about off?

    Thanks in advance,
    Paulo

PS: I was planning on getting a tp of Kingston KVR1333D3S9 / 8G add to my original 4 GB. (for a total of 12 GB)

This is max 16 GB of DDR3 - 1333 PC3 - 10600 SO-DIMM aka. DDR3-1600 will downclock at 1333, and that's what you're probably see. I'd get 2 identical modules and not mix and match old and more recent memory. You prefer the modules with 8 blocks of black memory on each side (low density) as the HPs like the better guy.

    This works, for example:

    http://www.Amazon.com/G-skill-204-pin-so-DIMM-laptop-F3-1600C11D-16GSL/DP/B00HHDUEDG/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&QID=1427144332&SR=8-14&keywords=DDR3-1600+so-DIMM

Even though it says 1.35 volts it will work also to 1.5 volts if necessary. memory of 1.35 volts is a better product because they choose only the best RAM for low voltage memory chips.

    http://h20564.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docid=emr_na-c02548013

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See p. 23. Your laptop has the CPU i3 - 370 M and UMA (Intel HD) video so, unfortunately, the processor is not extensible because it is soldered to the motherboard. Put video updated would also require the replacement of the motherboard. CPU upgrades are very difficult and rarely justify financially, in any case, but in your case is not possible at all unless you replace the motherboard, which is even more expensive and less be justified financially. The cost of high end motherboard and CPU and work, you might as well buy a new laptop.

But all is not lost. The best upgrade, you can do is to install an SSD. You can also switch to 8 GB of RAM. An upgrade will be useful, together, they would be a game-changer.

You would need 2 x 4 GB modules specified thus:

    Memory module (DDR3 PC3 - 10600 1333 MHz) - 4096 MB 599092-001

    https://www.Amazon.com/HP-VH641AT-4-GB-DDR3-PC3-10600/DP/B0030L3B8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & qid = 1472066313 & SR = 8-1 & Keywords = 599092-001

This model is very, very picky about the memory and it must have 8 black blocks on the side, not 4. Also very intolerant of memory not specified in general. Remember that I bound will work. 'How to' on the manual p.60.

SSDS are a little harder to choose (as many options) and what I need to know is your budget. I recommend at least a concert 500 class SSD and which will cost $120-160. Since you have 10 Windows, it would be easy to download the Microsoft recovery media directly and simply reinstall, then find the drivers and applications and migrate the data. The installation will be ignited automatically the first time that the computer is connected to the internet. You can also clone the existing content of the new SSD hard drive, but I do not recommend with a facility that is malfunctioning.

We also probably discuss blowing dust and verification of thermal management in general. A laptop that suddenly becomes very slow, as you describe may have a hard drive problem, too. You need to run diagnostics on the hard drive and also just to check to see if it is full. Drops of performance as a rock if the hard disk reaches 90 percent and more capacity.

  • HP Pavilion Dv6 Memory Upgrade

Hey, I recently bought a HP Pavilion Dv6-6c14nr, and I'm looking to upgrade to 4 GB memory to 8 or 12 GB. I run a large number of programs such as Maya and UDK 3D so I would get an extra kick. I was told that it would be wise to get the same manufacturer as the memory chip that is inside the laptop now for best results. Is this true? Go to the basics, which module of memory should I go with, and is there a way to know what brand the stock memory is without removing the laptop support?

Hi, it is recommended to use the same but not necessary memory sticks. I had a better memory reference with two different modules (2 GB + 4 GB) that the same sticks (4 GB + 4 GB). Crucial memory Advisor says that you need the sodimm PC3-10600 or PC3-12800 ddr3 modules. I recommend the modules 3-PC-12800 Corsair, Crucial or Kingston. HP uses Samsung memory modules in laptops, so you can get these institutions. Simple 8 GB modules are quite expensive, so it's in your pocket which modules to choose from...  :-)

  • Question on Pavilion DV6-2140EF memory upgrade

    Hello

I tried to replace my 2 * 2GB memory modules by modules of 2 * 4 GB on my Pavilion DV6-2140EF

The maintenance manual mentioned that each module of memory should be 4096-MB, 1066 MHz DDR-3 DIMM (part number 579155-001)

It supports the total system memory of 8192 MB (4096 MB x 2, dual-channel).

I bought these two 4 GB modules:

    Corsair RAM DDR3 up to 1066 CL9 Kit2 COR

But it did not work. Windows 7 64 bit Pro could not start, even if the memory of 8 GB was visible through the BIOS and test memory BIOS was ADOPTED. I tried with a single 4GB module and I had the same problem. When I handed the older modules, it worked good gain.

Now, I am planning to buy these modules:

    Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) 204-pin PC3-8500 DDR3 SODIMM, Unbuffered, CL = 7, NON ECC, DDR3-1066, 1.5V, 512Meg x 64

    Would this work better?

You are the very welcome, Justin.

    Yes, that's correct. 2 x 8 GB PC3-10600 memory.

Memory will not run any more quickly than the FSB of the processor. Your CPU FSB is 1333 MHz.

For example: If you have installed 2 x 8 GB PC3-12600 (1666 MHz) memory, he would go only to 1333 MHz.

I don't think that there is no outside but except DDR5 memory in video cards.

But you can not mix DDR memory types, because they work with different voltages and the notches are cut at different places on DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 memory modules to prevent someone to install the bad memory in the PC and damage memory, motherboard or both because of the different voltages they run on.

    Best regards

    Paul
