HP Pavilion TouchSmart 23-f202: no boot disk was detected or the drive failed

On startup, I get the message "no boot disk was detected or the drive failed.

I bought a new H/D, installed and at startup I get the same message that I got on the old H/D.

As there was no disc provided with the computer when I bought what I'm doing, had to do to get this sucker to the top and work?

Hi @Jimmy56,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! I understand that you had a type "no boot drive has been detected" error at startup to the top, and you have replaced the hard drive and have the same problem. I'm happy to help you with this.

If replace you the original hard disk, you can use the following to test the hard drive. It is possible, there was a connectivity issue and just re-allocation of places the hard drive could make a difference. Computers HP - display of error HDD before starting the computer

The most recent hard disk you put in, if not there was no operating system installed, you'll get the same type of message. You could make the same diagnosis of HDD from the link above, just to make sure that the disc is good.

Please let me know the results, but so just install the original in the system hard disk works, and it starts correctly, so please mark this message as a solution. Bravo would be appreciated as well.

After I restarted my computer about 7 times it finally started, so for me to be able to write this message.  However, this problem occurred several times over the last week or two. I get a blue screen, then the computer goes into a splash screen and I get the above error.  Of course, I'm 2 months past my warranty period, so I'm here, GROUND.

Is my hard drive on its way? Is there a possible difficulty for this seizure completely breaks down?  Information to help save my machine would be great and much appreciated.  Thank you!

P.S. I ran a diagnostic and all past test except the bootable disc.  But for some reason when I restart a little more time it get passed my system and begins running.

Note: I created recovery discs and I backed up all my files.

    Hello:

In my view, there is nothing you can do to repair the drive except to replace it.

You can run the checkdisk utility and check both boxes.

Please see the link below for more information.

Please understand that this will only delay the inevitable at best.

  • Error: no boot disk was detected or the drive failed.

I turned off my computer last night and when I turned it back today I got an error "not detected no floppy or defective disc.  The computer is a desktop computer of Pavilion P7-1011 that running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Is there a way to fix this, or that I lost everything on my computer?  I had the computer since March 30, 2012

I recommend that you start your PC and go into BIOS then select Diagnostics F2 and run the hard drive diagnostics test.

Hello! Here are a few responses from members of the forum about your problem. See if you can find a solution from them. http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/forums/SearchPage/tab/message?filter=labels%2Clocation&location=Forum-Board%3AOSandSW&q=no+boot+disk+has+been+detected

    Dokie!

PS It doesn't look good for me. Good luck and thanks for posting back.

It has been my experience in the past that a message as this means that either the operating system is corrupt or your hard drive is dead. If your hard drive does not show in the boot order, it's a major sign of a bad HD, but not100%.  There are several free testers HD. Most have the back, which means that you don't have to have an operating system to start their. If you are not able to test your HD with F2 or F11 functions, try one of them. You will need to burn an ISO to a CD file.

I took my PC to the Geek Squad at my local Best Buy store and it turns out that Windows was just corrupted. All you have to do is to do a full restore using recovery discs. For more information about your model, I would just search on the internet.

  • Pavilion 500 - C60: new office reads, "ERROR: no boot disk was detected or the disc has failed" at startup.

Just bought Pavilion 500 - C60, running Windows 8.1 64-bit and am doing everything on old HP running Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2. Has not gone smoothly from one thing to another, but I think everything comes together. A couple of days, began to receive the error message at startup or, if I COULD do so that it starts would go for awhile and then would get an ERROR message, requiring restart. Usually after obtaining the error message several times, the computer would then initialize. Tonight, I couldn't override the error message for anything! When you press power button / stop, I hear (HD) running for a few seconds, everything is silent, and then the error message appears on the gray screen dark in white letters, BACK very and sinister looking! Any suggestions? Had the computer about two months and it has not been easy.

Not good!  Check all the connectors and the hard drive to make sure that they are correctly wired in place. Make sure that your cable is not reversed.

Contact the seller if still under warranty for repair.  This could be the hard drive or motherboard and the problem lies the only diagnosis from a repair facility.

  • ENVY h8 - 1520t: error: no boot disk was detected or drive failed.

Yesterday, when I turned on my computer, it was really slow and I could not open any programs. Then it went all blue and white. When I rebooted, I see "control the presence of .media, media, start the PC via ipv6, then error: no boot disk was detected or the disc has failed." I tried to hit f11, but it fills the entire screen with the error message. He died or hope?

Looks like your hard drive has failed.

You need to maybe replace the disk and reinstall Windows.

Please use these instructions to test your hard drive.

  • 23 - k027c: ERROR: no boot disk was detected or drive failed

    Hello!

    My computer

HP Envy tilt 23-k027c TouchSmart all-in-One desktop PC (energy star)

These latest OS Windows 10 (update of Windows 8, which was preinstalled on the computer at the time of the purchase in December 2013)

    Intel (r) Core (TM) 15-457OT CPU @ 2.90 GHz

    Processor speed 2900 MHz

A few days ago it started showing blue screens of death with a PAGE_FAULT_in_NONPAGED_AREA note all other hours, or sometimes 3 times per hour.

I went through all the troubleshooting process, finished with a bluescreen debugging possible analysis demonstrating that the ntoscrnl.exe driver might cause the blue screen issue.  And on the morning of the next day my computer greated me with a black screen with an ERROR: no boot disk was detected or drive failed.

I can still get into the BIOS by pressing ESC at the present time of HP sign appear early attempts to restart.

BIOS indicates that the hard disk is detected (yay!), so it is not the source of the problem.

Memory and disk test went well passed, PASSED tests successfully.

Pushing ' restore the original and exit "in the bios does not help.

Nothing else works. Only these two ESC and F10 keys.

How can I fix the system?

I don't have a HP with PC Restore disc when I bought it. Site Web of HP didn't kits of restoration for the moment.

    What to do?

    SOS help, please!

It is the computer that I use for work and personal use. There are gigabytes of photos of my family, as well, who desperately, I don't want to lose...

I'll be super thankful for all reasonable advice and direct instructions!

The ' ERROR: no boot disk was detected or drive failed. "  May be a simple solution to redo the botmanager file.  This normally requires a bootable DVD with the repair function or a USD bootable with windows and repair function.  Windows 10 is installed, this would be my choice getting either the drive or the USB key.  HERE IS THE MEDIA tool of M$.  Make the work of another PC, DVD or USB and then - on PC - start problem that media and choose repair when loading of the POPup screen.  DO NOT install.  If you install it, it will eliminate your data.

BTW: 10 Windows is installed, the HP recovery disk will return the PC to Windows 8.

  • error: no boot disk was detected...

I have a hp pavilion 23 all of a. Message from the above subject line. I tried Windows + b + power switch. Power off, but do not restart. Computer is less than a year. Help, please!

Sorry to hear about your problem with your needhelp0000 of Pavilion,

I will do my best to offer your help. One of the first things to do is to make sure that the hard drive is connected and operational. To do this, you will need to check the drive when you start your computer. If you know how to get your Start menu, do. often, it is urgent or remove, F10, or (in my case) escape. Try first escape. You should get a blue screen that has many options. You want the one that says the System Diagnostics. You must enter in the hardware of PC HP Diagnostics UEFI. Click the component Tests, then click on disk, then click extended Test, then click on run once. If you receive errors from that, your hard drive is likely bad, and since it was less thn a year, the guarantee must cover a new. If it passes, then the chances are high that potentially malware/virus etc. erased windows or modified your system reserved on the disk partition, and you will need to use recovery media to try to recover. I got this error but my recovery media could do nothing, and HP has yet changed my HARD drive and my motherboard.

    Good luck!

  • In disk management, I checked the drive to shrink the process after that he had finished he told me that there is space for shrinkage of 9 GB!

    Hi all

I only have one disc space (C) with 1 TB space, the free volume of that disk is about 330 GB, I want to reduce it to create the new volume. In disk management, I checked the drive to shrink the process after that he had finished he told me that there is space for shrinkage of 9 GB!
    Can someone help!

    Original title: Shrink Volume

The common cause for limited space retractable is the Table of master files (MFT). It is essentially a system file good behaviour that even Windows own Defrag tool will not move.

PerfectDisk will clean this file and there is a free trial available.

OK so I have Windows Vista and I did a Windows 7 boot disk on my USB key and before I booted from it, I want to know if he's going to do a clean install / affect the Windows Vista on my HARD drive or will only affect the USB key.

You can install Windows 7 from a USB /Thumb drive, but Windows 7 can not boot from a USB key.

  • The initialization of the swap file to virtual disk periodically (40% of the time +/-) fails to start Windows

    Greetings-

For the past year or so I put my Windows 7 32-bit, 8 GB RAM system to initialize the page automatically on a virtual disk file (in order to reduce the physical disk reads/writes and to speed up the access to the page files).

Here's how I set up: I installed Dataram Ramdisk and configured to use memory beyond 4 GB (which, as everyone here knows, 32-bit Windows can not otherwise use) as the ramdisk.  In setting up manually formatted the 4 GB unallocated space virtual drive as an NTFS volume and it gave the letter a: (what else!). Then I got the software save an image file of the ramdisk formatted my hard drive F:. Additional configuration of the software wants to initialize the virtual disk to start and immediately copy the image file to the virtual disk, thus creating a 4 GB NTFS formatted volume a:. (Incidentally, I also use the virtual disk to the cache of the browser and the print spooler). The theory here is flawless. But to make it work in practice, the virtual disk must be initialized and the image file copied into ramdisk (making it a formatted disk R :) front Windows initializes the pagefile.

It runs about 60% of the time, but for the remaining 40 percent Windows gives an error message indicating that Windows has created the page file in a temporary location (it's always the C: drive, the pagefile in general where default.). The only reasonable explanation I see why it fails is that, for nearly 40% of my computer boots window wants to initialize the page file before the ramdisk is ready to receive. What I don't understand is why that happens.

This happen to my main question: is it possible to control the Windows boot sequence so that the ramdisk is initialized and the filename of the image copied to him on a basis consistent before Windows wants to initialize the page file? Operationally, I guess it boils down to whether it is possible, during each startup sequence, to delay initialization of the page files or to move the virtual boot record earlier in the sequence. If so, how to do that? If not, can someone explain why the order of the respective boots usually works, but does not reach a good amount as well?

Ideas on this would be appreciated.

Create a small paging file to 20 MB on the boot volume (the partition where the Windows files are installed) this way the session manager will be able to start the Windows session and create additional paging files without complaining.  You can have more than one paging on several disks, Windows will favour the less busy the disk paging file.
