I am installing a purchased copy of Lightroom 6.  Cannot install because it says I have another installer works.  I don't.  I restarted from scratch.  I'm on Windows 8 on a PC.

  In the same folder that your catalog file is stored in, there is a subfolder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Delete this subfolder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not remove anything else.

  Yes, you can do - everything just download and install the latest version of "stand alone" as you have always done.

  You did not actually preventing you from doing this. For more clarity, I've got CC, but my completely up-to-date (5.7.1) installation of Lightroom is autonomous, so no question about it being possible.

  Please use Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat tool - Adobe Labs cleanup tool to completely remove DC Acrobat (if you are using Windows), and then restart your system.

  Then try to reinstall the application from the following links:

  Adobe Acrobat DC: download Standard or Pro versions of Acrobat DC, XI or X
