  • can't conect on another computer

I have PC HP 2309 m and I am using windows 7 I can't conect on another computer

I need to know why? I have the adapter and share this with another computer by router conect

This is problem for 2 weeks

How can I solve this problem?

You are trying to share files between a Vista computer (since you posted in a forum of Vista) and a Windows 7 machine?

The Vista network type must be set to 'Private' and the Windows 7 network type must be set to "Home" or "work".

Excellent, comprehensive, but easy to understand article on sharing files/printer under Vista. Contains information about sharing printers and files, and the folders:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx

For XP, start by running the Network Setup Wizard the on all machines (see warning in section A below). The Vista network type must be on "private". "Public" is for when you are connected to an Internet connection 'foreign' as an Internet café, at Starbucks or a hotel, etc.

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, it means which allows file sharing / print on the Exceptions tab normally run the XP Network Setup Wizard will take care of this for these machines. The only "witch hunt", it will turn on the Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    (C) in Vista, turn on password protected sharing. In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

Create accounts of users and corresponding passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

Vista - Start ORB > Search > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

    D. Si one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. XP Home does not share the users directory or the Program Files, but you can share folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents folder. See the first link above for more information on Vista sharing.

    F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but it is outside this response.

  • Could not get Outlook Express to send a copy to my server, so I can access it from another computer

I can not Outlook Express to send a copy of my e-mail messages to my server (Charter.net) so I can access it from another computer.  I tried to check the block that says "Send copy to the server", but that did not work.  Any suggestions?  I'm not a true computer person so that the answers should be very details.  Thank you.

The messages on your computer now, you would have to back to yourself, and then they would be on the server.  For the future, go to tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced and check the leave a copy of messages on the server.  Do it with another machine in order to get the messages on both machines.  Then also set one of them to delete messages from the server after a few days, so that they accumulate and fill the mailbox you.

If yours is a copy retail, you don't and I don't need to.

But if yours is an OEM copy (for example if it came pre-installed on)
your computer, you can not install it on another computer. Your OEM
license restricted for the first computer, on which it is installed and it
can never be legally moved to another.

  • received the warning that another computer using my ip, what should I do

was told to check the "events" do not know how to do, someone could access illegal sites using my IP addresas

    Hi Erica,

Who or what exactly said you this?  You know the program who informed you?  How it was done?  What was the exact message entirely and verbatim?  You are using a wireless router and is it secure?  Contact your ISP with this and the appropriate codes.

Please see the thread below for a possible solution: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-networking/another-computer-on-my-network-has-the-same-ip/6ecaf994-1748-e011-9575-d8d385dcbb12.

To check the events, go to Control Panel / administrative tools / Event Viewer.  Search for events related to the network (probably under the system, but may also Applications).  See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749408.aspx for more detailed help.

For what it's worth, in this case only really with local networks. Your internet connection TCP/IP address is unique and there is no way he can go to the other - it is not possible (but if someone is made to your router or a computer in your network, they can access the internet via your internet connection a kind it would use the internet TCP/IP address assigned from your ISP).

I hope this helps.  Please consider reposting at: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/networking?tab=all for assistance.

    Good luck!

  • Switching from one computer to another computer used...

My current computer of dinosaur is flawed and very slow.  I got another tower which is used and there wasn't anything erased.  How can I clean the newest computer?  So, I still have to make a transfer from my old computer to the most recent it may be serious flaws in it?  I need the simplest possible as I'm basically pretty computer illiterate - so simple English would be preferable.  Thank you very much!!! Lin

You can do a simple disk cleanup to remove stuff (start |) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup.

Then you can go to start | Run and type msconfig and disable the startup items, you do not need to run at startup of the computer (if you complete this step on the "dinosaur", then it'll be quicker also).

Then go to control panel | Add / Remove programs and uninstall all anti-virus software and get www.microsoft.com/security_essentials and also www.malwarebytes.org.  Both are free.

You can also uninstall any software that you don't need, but as long as it does it all the time, you don't need to uninstall.

Once you have analyzed the system go to Windows Update and make sure that it is updated.

Also, go to start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter and defragment the hard drive (this allows you to optimize the performance and will also help the "dinosaur").

Then, if you can still stand the machine (), you can transfer any information or files that you want (for OE, for example, see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#6).

    See if that helps.

My sons laptop got stolen, if he can disable windows XP from another computer, so when the computer is turned on, no one can use the operating system

The short answer is no other post recommend that you ask the laptop on your insurance. It of a good idea to install prey or other protection software against theft on portable computers that will allow you to lock the remote computer and follow where it was stolen. However, even these measures will not help if the thief erases the hard drive and re - install Windows.

  • share my internet connection with another computer using a router

My question is if I give you my wep key to another computer in my house so that it can access the internet will be my files or no matter what content of my computer stays private, I need to share my internet connection without sharing something else?. Thanks JF

In general, it is safe to do so - just a person granting access to your network will not give them access to your files on your computer unless you are already sharing files with another computer on your network.  In this case, you want to check your sharing settings to make sure that the shared files are not available for all users of the network.  The thing I'd be worried, is whether or not the person you share with is "don't own"-no virus, malware, etc. on their computer, given that some of these programs can spread via a shared network connection.
