share my internet connection with another computer using a router

My question is if I give you my wep key to another computer in my house so that it can access the internet will be my files or no matter what content of my computer stays private, I need to share my internet connection without sharing something else?. Thanks JF

In general, it is safe to do so - just a person granting access to your network will not give them access to your files on your computer unless you are already sharing files with another computer on your network.  In this case, you want to check your sharing settings to make sure that the shared files are not available for all users of the network.  The thing I'd be worried, is whether or not the person you share with is "don't own"-no virus, malware, etc. on their computer, given that some of these programs can spread via a shared network connection.

    Hello

I would go straight to the point :)

I have a desktop running windows vista. I have a normal internet connection through a router that connects to the internet on this desktop computer.

now, I also have a laptop with windows xp and here is what I do. my laptop's wireless was always bothers me, sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't work out... so I saw that there is an Ethernet card installed in the laptop with an Ethernet port.

    My question is this:

I have a lot of Ethernet cables at home and I was wondering if there is a way to get internet to my laptop via the Ethernet port on my desktop, but without needing the desktop computer to be running, cause I only use my laptop these days and my router is too far to connect from my room. I hope you understand my problem. In theory, I think it's possible to do, but I'm not sure how, so please help me on this one. my laptop also has firewire, but I prefer ethernet for some reason any.

    Thank you

    Hello

Sorry, but you cannot get a connection via another computer if the computer is off.

I'm not sure that I understand completely the topology.  However, if the office is connected by cable to a router for Internet connection, you can solve the problem by buying a simple network switch.

You take the cable from the desktop and connect to the switch. Then you plug the desktop and laptop computer at the switch.

That this switch network does, it divides a cable to feed many computers.

Example of a switch that can be connected with a cable to a router and feed 5 computers.

  • No internet connection with C6300 only cable modem/router - No. Ethernet cable plugged

About once or twice a week I wake up my desktop PC and see an icon (bottom right) which indicates that I have no internet connection. When I run the troubleshooter network (right-click on the icon) it says to plug in my ethernet cable. I replaced the cable with another know good cable, but the problem continues to return (though intermittently). If I unplug the ethernet cable from the port of my C6300 Netgear and plug it back in the same or another port, the internet connection is restored. I'm on Windows 10 edition 64 - bit OS on my desktop tower PC (Dell). My internet provider is Cox Communications through their cable with up to 100 Mbps of speed. My Netgear firmware version is V1.02.20 to help you can provide me to solve this problem would be appreciated.

Well, it has been a few weeks of performance without error since I replaced the Netgear C6300. So I close this investigation as "FIXED."

  • Share the internet connection with Bridged mode

    Hello world

I have a windows Vista as a host with Wi - FI where I installed Vmware server on it and I rode Windows XP with bridge connection.

But I can't have internet on my Windows XP.

Of course, it works with connection NAT but I want a bridge connection, so I can set a manual IP address to my windows XP.

Here's how my Windows Xp is configured:

    IP address: 192.168.0.2

    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Default gateway: 192.168.0.1 (this is my Windows Vista for IP configured on the NIC)

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

Check which physical adapter network bridge is connected to.  I assume that your host also has an ethernet port?  Run the application 'manage virtual networks' administrator and check.  You can use this to change the connection open to use the wifi adapter.

    Hello Ashan,

    Thanks for the reply.

You can try to follow the following suggestions to solve the problem.

First, try to reset Internet Explorer and see if that helps.

    Reset Internet Explorer

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings. Reset Internet Explorer is not reversible, and all the previous settings are lost after reset.

    Additional information:

We can also refer to the computer or the device manufacturer's Web site and try to update the latest version of the network adapter drivers.

    (Also works for Windows 8)

Updated a hardware driver that is not working properly

    To connect to the Internet

  • How to share an internet connection broadband on the Satellite A200-1VG

    Hello
I am very new in the world of laptops, 3 days old. In fact, I have a desktop computer (the OS is XP Professional) and just bought my self a Satellite A200-1VG (the OS is Vista).
In my view, is it possible for 2 machines to share a connection high speed, but how I do not know. I must admit to be pretty ignorant when it comes to technology (you have probably gathered that now) and I ask that any given notice will be given in the language too technical.
Thanks in advance for a novice.

    Hello

Of course, you can share the internet connection with 2 computers.
If you have a WLan router, you can connect a computer to the LAN port and the laptop can be connected via Wireless LAN.

You can also connect two computers to the LAN port. Some routers support two (or more) of LAN ports and assign TCP/IP addresses automatically.
If your router supports one LAN port you could buy a Hub (or switch) for more LAN ports and connect multiple computers.

Lastly but not least you can connect to the laptop of desktop PC, but the PC needs to be equipped with min 2 LAN cards.

I would recommend a little goggling for more details. I m you will find some useful articles.

    Good bye

  • Cannot share the internet connection on the network with sprint card

    Hi all

I'm stumped on this one. I'm working on my network of fathers, and he lives in a rural area. Unfourantely, there are not a lot of internet service here. It uses a printed card that connect locally to a windos vista home pc. From there on, the connection is shared and that the pc is connected to a linksys router. The router, then hosts a wireless network and hard line connections. About three weeks ago, the Internet stopped working except the computer, map of sprint is hung directly. I tried the following options below to solve the problem.

    1. I can plug the card sprint to any computer and it works.

    2. I replaced the network adapter on the host computer

    3. I have tried the card sprint on other computers and tried to share from there. Same result

    4. replace the router

5 opportunity anotehr card Sprint which has been known to work

    6. replace the network cable between pc and router

    7. I tried removing the router from the equation and ran a network of host pc card form for directly to another computer

    8. the host and also renovated of other computers reformated

    9. do you have an ipconfig/release and renew

10 tried sharing all NICs on the host PC

When sharing the connection, I can see all the computers on the network. They arise, there is simply not an internet connection.

The only mistake that I seem to get is not able to find the DNS. I put everything on dhcp.

Any ideas that anyone can come would be most appreciated. Thank you

  • Connect a Vista PC (host) with an XP PC in LAN and share the internet connection.

I connect to internet using 3 different notebooks with Windows Vista with a wireless connection to a router and the DSL modem. I have a desktop PC XP computer in a secluded spot in my house, who does not have a wireless card. When I want to use the internet in Office XP, I connect it to a laptop using a LAN cable.

I was able to do that with 2 of my notebooks (set up the network and share the internet), but with the third Vista notebook, desktop XP can't get the internet connection established. I was not able to detect which is the problem.

First question: clues to debug this problem?

Second question: I would like to start over again and configure everything again with this third book. How should I proceed?

Turn on Internet connection sharing on the Vista wireless network connection.  If asked what to use for the home network connection, tell him to use the connection to the Local network. Then check the State of TCP/IP on both computers:

    1. On the Vista computer, right-click on the connection to the Local network, and then click on status > details . It must show:

      • IP address: 192.168.0.1
      • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Default gateway: no
      • Server DNS = none
    2. On the XP computer, right-click on the connection to the Local network, and then click on status > support > details . It must show:
      • IP address: 192.168.0.x (1<>
      • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Default gateway: 192.168.0.1

  • How to install the printer with the laptop. Printer was used with another computer.

I wanted to use a printer with my laptop lexmark. The printer was used with another computer and it worked fine, but when I tried to use it with the laptop, I was not able find the installation disk and tried to install without it. The laptop produces a message indicating he could find the internet facility info if I accepted this. He had apparently fulfilled this function, and I tried to print a document. The document has been printed, but the result was so low, that it was not readable. I then found the installation disk and tried to restart but was confused by the messages and options. I don't have a printer that prints. Help.

Unplug the printer from the laptop.  In Vista or Win 7, click Orb (Start), settings, Control Panel, printers. When the Lexmark printer is found, right-click on it and then click on remove.

Equip your drive and install the drivers and programs on the disk, then when told the printer.  You should have a printer now works.
  • HP: unlock OEM windows 7 for use with another computer?

    Hello

I recently got a HP computer with an OEM windows installation 7. After the machine (fatal hardware failure), I tried to use the windows key to install it on another computer. However, the key is an OEM product and would not activate, so after talking to microsoft they sent me here to ask if the manufacturer could "unlock" the key for use with another computer (that I build from scratch).

So all this possible? Or do I have to buy a new license?

Okay, Ive talked to HP and microsoft and it turns out that the key has been blocked (pirates). So much for the purchase of second hand.

  • How do I share my internet connection?

I have two laptops that I use to connect to wireless internet. The problem is that I can't get two laptops to connect to the internet simultaneously. My sister and I must take turns to use the internet, even if we use a wireless router. The main reason we got a wireless router has been to share our internet connection!

    I have:
Virgin Media (or Telewest broadband) modem
    Belkin router wireless
Two laptop computers (which can connect to the internet - but not at the same time)

    Hello

If you have the wireless router, I see no problem here. Set your PPPoE connection router (the router supports a dynamic connection type). If wireless option can each laptop connected with or without the password (I don't know if you have one).

If the WIFI network on the router is set on, if please scan the area and choose View available wireless networks. I'm sure that the same wireless network will be available on two laptops. You just need good settings.
