  If you are using distributions of Windows 8 volume license, you can use the following methods. If your license is using KMS licenses, talk with your administrator COMPUTER. The following method illustrates product activation using a MAK (Multiple Activation key) key

  I have an old Compaq 610 Notebook PCand the hard drive failed, unfortunately.  Can I replace the hard drive, but the Windows licesnse key sticker is so worn that I can read is no longer the characters.  How can I retrieve my license key?

  Sorry, but there is no way to retrieve the PID key that was printed on the COA Microsoft sticker. Further, the key that would have been recovered since the failed hard drive now is not the same as that on the sticker. You will need to use the recovery/restoration of HP/Compaq media to install the factory OS on the new hard drive. If you do not have this media, you can be able to demand for HP business support.

  I bought a Vista Ultimate Anytime Upgrade from MS Anytime Upgrade site in 2007. I now need to reinstall after a crash of the PC. However, while I still have the DVD can't get the license key. When I checked on the order confirmation emails, there is a "Digital locker" link for me to recover when necessary - that's why I the have not kept. But when I now try the link there is broken, and browsing the web, it seems that the Digital Locker service no longer exists, so as it is I have no spare key while it is a legitimate purchase?

  I tried to find someone at MS to provide me with a new key - it's a legitimate purchase, fee, directly from a web site of MS, but so far no one has been willing to help. Anyone know who I can contact to get this resolved please?

  Follow the steps below:

  1. click on launch

  2. right click on computer, then click Properties.
  • In the Windows activation section, click change product key. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
  • In the product key box, type the product key, and then click Next.
  • If this does not work for you, follow the steps below.

  1. click on Start

  2. open an elevated command prompt. (Type cmd in the start search box, right-click on the program that appears and select run as administrator)

  • After cmd opens, type slui.exe 4
  • Select your country and call Microsoft Product Activation Center.
  • Provide the product ID, you see on the screen of the wizard
  • Once verified, you will receive the Confirmation code. Type in the boxes and activate Windows 7.

  But I realized I built upside down--the fast motherboard has the slow disk and vice versa.
  To save the reinstallation, I thought simply exchanging the discs of C two, but I know that the windows license key, which is engraved on each disc C, is linked to the motherboard.
  Thus, it will be the wrong key for the motherboard.
  I would still be able to swop drives, start Windows and quickly put in the right key for each motherboard?
  Or windows will refuse the start up & let me because for a moment I'd be using the combination of the wrong key/motherboard?

  Press Windows key + R

  Type: slui.exe 3

  Press enter

   

  Enter the product key and click next to activate via the Internet.
