I can't choose a search engine.

When I initially downloaded FF, Google is the default search engine; I changed it to AVG using the method of "manage search engines".

When I started today FF, it contained no search engines, and none of the methods recommended to choose a search engine worked. No search engines have been listed in manage search engines and literally nothing happened when I chose the search engines get or when I chose by default.

I tried to remove FF using programs Windows7 and download it again. This only charged was an exact copy, included bookmarks, of what was on the computer when I deleted the program. I tried several times but not able to download a copy of 'clean' FF with the search engines.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

If possible to uninstall your current version of Firefox to clean the Windows registry and settings in the security software.

  • Do NOT remove the "personal data" when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords including data profiles created by other versions of Firefox.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but do NOT delete personal data when you uninstall Firefox which removes all Firefox profile folders and you lose your data.

If you keep problems also create a new profile.

You have not been hacked.  Looks that you have installed the malware or adware programs on your hard drive, and it is at the origin of the result of your search be redirected to Yahoo.  You have two options to remove:

    • Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for Mac.  It was developed by an employee trust and respected here.  It is a simple and non-intrusive program that removes malware known/adware from your hard drive.  That's all that.  It does nothing and is not take anything else.  Unlike the antiviruss protection programs, it does not work in the background of your computer, using the resources and also unlike anti-virus programs (which are not necessary on Macs), it is not actively prevent malware infections or adware.  Its only purpose is to remove them.
    • Restart your computer.  As of April 26, 2016, changes to the support article here-> stop the cAds in Safari - Apple charge El Capitan State removes adware when you connect, but only when connecting.  So, if you do not want to use Malwarebytes, it's another option for you.

Then go to Safari preferences-> Extensions and remove any that you do not install or you don't need.  Then go to Safari preferences-> search, then reset your preferred Google search engine.  Finally, go to Safari Preferences-> general and make sure that your home page has not been changed and if she, change it back to what it was before.

    Hello

I suggest you sign upward to Google Webmaster tools (free) and check your site (directions are in the webmaster tools) and

also consider joining Google analytic (also free).  Analytical will allow you to 'see' who is visiting your site and how they experience through research, order the seizure of the URL, or through the links, etc.  Also from where they come, how much per day, etc.  Lots of good information.

In addition, through this document by google

Check the performance of your site - webmaster help search

Let me know if you have any question.

  • Can you make a menu for the click Search right so that when I text matches and research, I can choose which search engine to use?

If you text matches you can right click above to pull up a menu runs. One option is "x search engine search for"highlight text"" previously, the selected search engine would be any search engine was selected on bar search, Google or Amazon.com, etc.. Because you can't change this selection until you are looking for, the search engine has the default value. Was a gene before, but now, it's just an obstacle.

Highly recommend the extension of research framework that will solve your problem

  • How can I remove the search engine on my page in new tabs?

    Hello

a year or two ago I spent hours trying to find an answer to this question and I managed to do it, but unfortunately a few weeks back I had an unexpected data loss, and I'm unable to find a solution to my problem more.

By 'on my new tabs page search engine', I mean the dialog box with the choice search engine that did not exist in the previous version of FireFox. I want to not go. Not changed Yahoo, Bing or anything else - just.

If I remember, the solution was to go to about: config and change the settings for those who would make the thing not appear at all (rather that remove entirely), but if you know how to do so that he went not only visually, but also officially, I'm obviously very well with this solution too.

Hi, you are using an older version of Firefox, which can compromise your security. Update to 41.0.1, open the 3-bar menu > help (question mark below on the right) > on Firefox.

After that, here's some additional information for reference: you can change the number of tiles on the page new tab in zoom in or back (Ctrl and + key, or Ctrl and - key).

You can also keep the same zoom setting when a new tab is clicked: Type Subject: config in the address bar, press ENTER, accept the warning, scroll to browser.newtab.preload and double-click on it to change the 'value' of true to False.

It is also possible about: config to change the maximum number of tiles, scrolling to the browser.newtabpage.columns (or Rows), then right-click > modify to set a new number of 'value '. - Editor of Configuration of Firefox.

However, given that you want to remove the search box in the new page tab, I suggest you try the add-on New tab tools.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

    Hello

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

  • Help! I can't change the search engine for the Firefox widget on my home screen

OK, so my engine failure to research on FF for Android is Duckduckgo. It is also the only one I have in my list of search engines in FF settings. I also use the search widget FF on my homescreen for quick search. It is and has always been, Duckduckgo. But, all of a sudden after the recent update (I use the FF, 36 beta something), for my search widget on my home screen, switched to Google search engine! I don't know why... I never use it. But this applies only to the search engine for the FF search on my home screen widget, not when I'm looking for something in FF itself. Does anyone else have this problem? Because I can't find a way to change the search engine in the FF widget... Looked everywhere in search widget settings and in FF itself. Thanks for the help of any body!

I found a way to implement back to DuckDuckGo after a bit of fiddling with the default search engine in the browser.

I think that the update should have overridden the setting somehow. What you need to do is to any other search engine default, then set DuckDuckGo returned as default. This will also update engine of the widget's default search.

    I hope this helps.

  • I can't change the search engine bar awesome.

I use Firefox 29 Windows 8.1. I had to reinstall Firefox because of other problems, and I reinstalled my Add-ons. I wanted to add DuckDuckGo to my search box, so I reinstalled an extension to get the extension made DDG the default search engine in the search bar and so also in the Awesome bar. I have reset the bar of Bing search, but the Awesome bar is 'stuck' on DDG and I can't change it. I checked the config lists, and my default search engine is Bing, sort of rights the Awesome bar should use Bing as well; It uses rather DDG. How can I change the Awesome bar to use Bing?

  • I downloaded, installed and uninstalled firefox 24 yesterday but he had a search engine I want, how I can download without this search engine.

How can I download firefox without the search engine, it automatically takes me when I open a new tab. ?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset preferences to default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension runs only once and then uninstalls automatically, so it will not appear on the page "> Firefox Add-ons" (topic: addons).

If you do not keep the changes after a reboot or have problems with preferences, see:

  • How can I change the search engines if /searchreset does not work?

I just upgraded to 23 FF, and it or some other setting changed my default Yahoo search engine. I want to go back to Google, which I think is the default value. Another thread of support was driven to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/, but that has not worked. I went in: config and Yahoo changed to Google on several lines, but it did nothing. I tried to change the searchreset.backup.keyword.URL and the keyword. URL, but they would not change the setting Yahoo.

Not only is my default stuck with Yahoo, but even if I click on the arrow pointing downwards in the search box, I can not select a different search manually engine. The drop down menu shows me a list of search engines, but by selecting one of them has no effect. Help?

Hello kirkpete, please try this: go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "view folder", then a new window will open. in this search on a file named user.js window (it can be used to overwrite your custom settings). where it is present, delete or rename this file and then restart firefox.
