  1920 x 1080 is widescreen 640 x 640 is square. So, you end up with black border.

  Or do the sequence of 640 x 640 and put your material to this

  Instead of black bars, it will cut the sides of the video.

  go to the sequence/sequence of parameters and set Custom to edition mode.
