I can't find my downloads.

I can't find one of my downloads.  When I download anything to my computer, it will go through the motions of a download.  I will choose a location and it will even show a progress bar that fills up and says: I'm downlaoding.  But, when I go to find the element which has been downloaded just it is not found.  I tried to save items to multiple locations, including the office.  I use internet explore as my browser.  I was able to download the first two days I've owned since nothing but the computer.
