I can't open Firefox, it says could not load xpcom. Who is wrong?

I have windows vista. After the updates of windows, Firefox does not work. What should I do?

I did exactly what suggested you - went to the Mozilla website and clicked on the Download"" button. He did his thing, I restarted my PC - to be sure and then clicked on the "Mozilla Firefox" icon on my toolbar and its openness.
The more frustrating is that while "Firefox" wasn't working, I was forced to use other browsers - I couldn't believe all the crap and pop ups that me presentations.
Thanks heaps

Can't get on the line, the browser says "failed to load XPCOM" icon, what can I do? Help, please. I'm not very savvy computer. Please keep it very simple.

This may be caused by an update of Firefox failure that left you with a mixture of old and update files in the Firefox program folder.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

If possible to uninstall your current version of Firefox to clean the Windows registry and settings in the security software.

    • Do NOT remove the "personal data" when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords including data profiles created by other versions of Firefox.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but do NOT delete personal data when you uninstall Firefox which removes all Firefox profile folders and you lose your data.

  • At the start of what Firefox says "could not load XPCOM.

My desktop is running Windows 8, which recently crashed. Since then, whenever I start, 17.1 Firefox (which is in the folder startuo) does not load, but shows an error window saying (unable to load XPCOM). Rejecting the window then allows me to start Firefox myself. I uninstalled Firefox (but not personal stuff), downloaded a new copy of Firefox 17.1 and re-installed... same thing happens.

Just to clarify... This only happens only once, after the initial start of the desktop computer. I close the error window and everything is fine after that.

    Bright ideas please?

What makes XPCOM reference? A missing dll file? can I find this file elsewhere and move it to the correct location?

    Many ways.

Thanks again for all the responses.
I now put Firefox in my 8 and restarted Windows startup folder.
All right, Firefox (or Thunderbird) starts as it is supposed to and there is no sign of an XPCOM related error message!
So... I have to assume that the problem was (somehow) caused by crash my Windows 8 and that (somehow), remove the Win 8 of Firefox startup folder, restart, then put Firefox in the startup folder, and then restart, has put things back where they used to be. A little strange, but I hope that the above may be useful to someone else with a similar problem in the future.
    Well cordially to all.

  • My Mac with OS 10.5.8 says I can't open Firefox because it is not supported on this architecture. I tried to update my version, and that's all I get now. What can I do to use Firefox again? Thank you.

My computer is not allowing me to use any version of Firefox, after several attempts to download. Simply, I get a message that Firefox is not supported on this architecture, and the Firefox icon in my toolbar now has a circle with a line through it top (cancelled). I hope someone can explain what I need to do to be able to use Firefox once more. Thank you, TC

As you have a PPC or Power Mac the last form of waiver Mozilla to work on the PPC is Firefox 3.6. *

3.6.23 Firefox can be found at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Since you have a PPC Mac, there is this option of third-party for Firefox 7.0.1
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

From Firefox 4.0, a Mac Intel with OS x 10.5 + is required for versions of Mozilla's Firefox. http://www.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/7.0.1/system-requirements/

    Hi IllApath27,

What version of Windows is installed on your computer?

If you use Windows 7, compatibility information are not yet available. The link given below provides the same information.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/search.aspx?type=software&s=Diablo%202

To work around the problem, you can try to install the game in compatibility mode and check if the game works very well. Follow the link given below for the same thing.

  • Error. Could ' t Load XPCOM. Can't Uninstal from Windows C/P

    (a) running Mozilla Fireforx 23.0.1.4974 on a Dell laptop Studio XPS 1640 with the 64-bit of Windows Vista. I had to do a restore of the system back and since then my Mozilla Firefox is not running. I get the following:
Part 1. "Error. Could not load XPCOM. Tried the solutions of this forum to UNINSTALL before you perform a new installation of the latest version.
Part 2. In the Windows Vista Control Panel, Uninstal does not at all. Just a blank nothing.
Before deleting the content & directory: C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox, I noticed another directory C:\Program Files (x 86) \Firefox (99) that was created when I did a reset a few weeks ago. There is a folder on my desktop called 'Old data Firefox' which I assume icon contains my favorites, add-ins etc reset, I did it on August 18, 2013.
Part 3. I tried the suggested search for %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ so that I could find, backup on a USB and a restoration after a new installation, but it returns no results. Is there an actual path I can use to locate these data? I want to retain my lastest bookmarks, modules etc. for installation of the latest charges.
This web site is automated responses that are useless if Firefox will not open and run. I need of human intervention and human know-how. I am writing this issue with this terrible Internet Explorer.

    Main profile folder:

    • C:\Users\ < user > < profile > \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.

Location of the cache folder (topic: cache):

    • C:\Users\ < user > < profile > \AppData\LocalMozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.

The "Application Data" in XP/Win2K folder and the folder "AppData" in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and later versions are hidden folders.
