I forgot my windows, no pswd password don't reset the drive, no admin account, how to reset?

I try to log on to Windows XP Edition family, but have forgotten my password.  I looked on the site of MS in which States can I reset using a disc, or start as an adiministrator, I have neither a disk or an administrator account.  Can anyone help? Thank you!

EVERYONE has an administrator account in Windows XP Home Edition. It is accessible by entering Safe Mode:

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm#02

Except if you set a password for this account (this is doubtful, since you didn't even know you had!), it is empty.

Once you have logged on to the administrator account you can set passwords and guests to your heart's content:

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000767.htm#05

You can select the account that you use normally and reset the password. You can even choose an option to 'change the way users log on or not.' In this window, you can select "Use the Welcome screen" (which seems to be what you had before).

  • "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive, and then try again. »

Have a laptop Envy M6-K010DX. Due to a problem of the internet while improving to win 8 to 8.1, the PC does not start correctly, and Windows Explorer will not load. Has decided to "Refresh" of the operating system and is gone to F11 restore utilities. When I go to the utility of refreshment and follow the prompts that I reach a message that says, 'the drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive, and then try again. "I was looking for support for the unlocking instructions and apart from some commands bootrec (which did not work - probably because I don't have a Win 8 disc) not much is available.

The only access I have for execution of orders made by the tasks Manager command-line and F11. What is this 'locked' drive, anyway? Someone at - it any information on that?

    Hello Lara.

IF you have updated from 8 to 8.1 and the process was interrupted during installation, this may damage the disc and therefore locked error. "Refreshing" the system would not be the answer that you need to clean install Windows 8 again. 8.1 update can break the bond of the recovery partition, especially if it has become corrupted as indicated.

You must clean up the installation with the recovery discs, you must have created before you updated to 8.1.

In addition, if you do not have the recovery disks, you can buy a set of HP or install a regular copy of Windows 8 and then update the drivers manually. HP has the Windows key now integrated into the bios.

"What to do if you forget your password Windows 8/8.1"

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/what-do-forget-Windows-password#1TC=Windows-8

If you have forgotten your Windows password, there are several ways to recover or reset:

    • If your PC is on a domain, your system administrator must reset your password.

    • If you use a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online. For more information, see the Web to reset your password page.

    • If you use a local account, use your index of password as a reminder.

If you've tried these suggestions and still unable to connect:

    • If you have Windows 8.1, you will need to reinstall Windows.

    • If you have Windows RT 8.1, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your PC.

  • How can I fix the window 32system and I don't have the disk to reboot

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget what you have (no XP media required).

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD (do not install UniBlue or the Ask Toolbar - never!):

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

I need to make an own reformatting and installing windows Vista on my Dell Inspiron C521 pc.  Restore dell to original factory option does not work.  Windows has no option to create a recovery disc - am unble to locate the recdisc.exe and possess no original discs as windows came pre-installed, when I brought the machine license key only 25 digits

You call Dell Support and request a set of recovery disks. The cost is minmal and worth it.

  • Windows media player - "you want to hide the drive.

    Hello

Can someone help me with something that leads me into the wall? Since I installed SP2 on my desktop and laptop, when I close WMP everything a video or track is playing, a dialog box appears on the screen asking me "Do you want to hide the drive instead to shut up?". There are two button (Yes & No.), and a checkbox to say '' do not ask that in the future".

More often than otherwise, this dialog box appears mainly outside the screen area, and I have to drag in the main window. But more annoying than anything else, is that no matter if I check the box "don't ask again", I'm ignored. Whenever I close the player with the closing this window 'X', I get the same dialog box.

It was not the case prior to SP2. I looked all over the internet by using the text of the dialog box to see if other users know this, and I can't find a thing. I am logged in as administrator (the only user on both machines). I am running Vista 32-bit, l i've got things like FFShow installed and the combined community codec pack. However, my brother also has it installed on his vista machine and did not see the dialog box.

Is there some sort of registry setting that is corrupt, is not being written because of UAC, or something (anything!) that I can put to stop this dialog once for all to come?

Much recognition for everyone and anyone who can help you.

Am I just that you said this happens on both machines? Must be something in common.
