Hello

I'm using windows 7, I have a message that says update my firewall settings.
Windows does not use recommended settings to help protect your computer. whenever
I try to open the firewall with advanced settings windows it gives me an error
Message.

"There was error opening of firewall with Advanced Security snap-in window.
"Windows firewall".
with Advanced Security snap-in failed to load. Restart the windows firewall
service on the computer that you are managing. Error
Code: 0x6D9

When I try to start the windows firewall service it says windows could
windows firewall does not contact the service provider.

I deleted all virus protection as well as the internet
security & it still won't open for me change the settings. I also ran the Microsoft fix this program as well as did a system restore and it has not solved the problem.

Any help would be appreciated to help correct this problem, the next step is perhaps just the
the hammer. Thank you!

Hey everybody.  This same exact error and Windows Firewall behavior appear to be linked to another problem with the Group Policy Client service.  Here's a new post with the solution of the Microsoft community forum (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/why-wont-windows-connect-to-the-group-policy/b73107f8-8447-4599-87a5-65ecc6a63aa0?page=2)

NOTE: before you try this solution make sure you have the problem with the Group Policy Client service, i.e.:

  1. Non-admin users cannot connect to the computer
  2. When an administrator logs on, a message is displayed informing you that Windows is unable to connect to the Group Policy Client service
  3. Group Policy Client service does not seem to be started snap-in computer services.msc

If you have these three symptoms listed above, then the fix may resolve the error code 0x6D9 firewall

I had this problem on my laptop since November, and it really annoyed me.  I sifted through the event log and found the model of events leading up to the issue and, probably, he did.

In short, the model is as follows: Windows updates automatically run as planned, and when restarting is launched after the updates are complete, the computer crashes (probably during the reboot sequence).  When starting, it signals that the last stop was not planned, and the question starts to happen.

I spent 2 days trying to dig a solution by Internet, without success, until I came across this page.  It says nothing about this particular problem, but it gives more information on the SVCHOST process that launches many services, including Group Policy Client.  It seems that when restarting vital registry settings have been lost during the accident and Group Policy Client 'do not know' how to start.  Let me explain:

There are two places to look in the registry:

  1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services this path must contain gpsvc key (a record), which is responsible for the configuration and service settings.  I found the key was intact, so you do not touch anything here - just check that the key exists.
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows svchost It's the most important way you should look at in, because it should contain keys and values under the #1 key.  Here are descriptions of what must be present there.
  • There must be called GPSvcGroupmulti-string value. My laptop was missing it.  Thus, you must create the multi-string value called GPSvcGroup and assign it the value GPSvc.
  • Then, you must create a key (a folder) and name it GPSvcGroup - this key should normally be there, but, again, that it was missin on my laptop.
  • Open the newly created GPSvcGroup folder, then create 2 DWORD values:
  1. First called AuthenticationCapabilities and you must give it a value of 0 x 00003020 (or in decimal form 12320)
  2. Second, called CoInitializeSecurityParam , and it must have the value 1.

When you have finished all the above steps, restart the computer, and the problem will be solved.

    HD: 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA

    OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

    All the drivers and BIOS are up-to-date.

    My current optical drive is an Optiarc DVD +-RW AD-7200 s ATA Device Unit which has now disappeared from "My Computer". By opening the Device Manager, it has a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside. When I click on it that a new window will open and in the device status area, he said:

    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Currently, I have tried two methods without success. First, I downloaded the latest drivers/firmware for the optical drive directly from the Dell Web site, but to try to install, I get an error box saying that the "target drive is not properly".

    The Code 10 error code is generated when the Device Manager has not enough information or error that spread upwards by device drivers is not recognized by Device Manager. In addition, this error may occur if one of the pilots who needs the unit does not start. If multiple drivers are used by a particular device, it can be difficult to determine which failed.

    You Antivirus can be removed but left a start for her entry.

    -Change the time-out period of the server for a longer time
    -Check if the IMAP SSL is required by your mail server
    -Check what port number requires that your e-mail server
    -Check your username and password
    -Check your incoming server

    Make sure that you don't have a firewall that blocks access to this service
