I had to remove my dead time capsule disk

My system was struck by lightning and power surge battery back up to breath too. I lost my iMac, I could get all the hard drives from the inside, I'm working on an old iMac long story short, back to Time capsule, he also failed.  It was absolutely not usable, we removed the disk to save the hard drive.  I connected via USB to a hub of travel and it is what is inside. Inside 'data' are the discs and my back ups. Is it possible to get these back ups to be read by the program Time Machine, so I can restore stuff? Thank you!

Yes, for sure... the Backups.backupdb standing inside the sparsebundle is your backup. TM can connect to it.

Simply open the Migration Wizard and select the disk of TC and the source.

  • Error search server old name of sharing of time capsule

I recently had to replace my Time Capsule and by creating a new, I used a slightly different name for the share where the time capsule will be back up my macbook.  Now, I get an error popup to the effect of "Server"XXXXX Time Capsule"server not found  Maybe it's because the server is unavailable or... "Well, it is not available because I have a new time Capsule and I am using a different name for the backup share.

Can someone help me so that this pop up goes and the computer will stop looking for part of the defunct time capsule?

Did you remove the old path in the preferences of Time Machine that instructs your Mac where your old Time Capsule?

If you do not, then the Mac will continue to seek a Time Capsule that does not exist and the report that he can't find it.

    Open Time Machine preferences

    Click Add or remove disks

Select the old Time Capsule disk. under backup disks... that could be called data, unless you have changed the name

    Click on remove the disc

Restart your Mac and recheck things.

IF you have not changed the name of the new Time Capsule data, then you will see two drives two named data.  In this case, remove the two data disks.

Then, the old time Capsule's power off, restart your Mac and set up Time Machine again by choosing the new Time Capsule disk.

  • Full Time capsule not deleting files

I have my MacPro & iMac saved to Time Machine. It works very well to find a lost file.

BUT, when HD 2 TB recently completed, he ceased to backup and I had to wipe the HD & start over.

I thought that Time Machine would sequentially remove oldest files, once that it filled to the top.

I have check the disk (Option - Menu TM) & it checked OK

Is there a setting that I missed?

    Thanks for the tips!

    ... John

Time Machine has no problem deleting old incremental files to make room for the new files in incremental backups.  The keyword here is 'extra', which are small files that take up very little space.

But... and this is a big BUT... If the Time Capsule disk is full, and you try to save a large amount of data that normal... What can happen if you have recently updated the operating system on your Mac, or added large files from media or other types of files for the beams of Mac... then Time Machine, because it can not remove enough files to make room for the new more normal backup.

In this case, you have a few options:

    (1) add an another Time Capsule and start new backups to go

    (2) add a USB key to the current time Capsule and start new backups to go

    (3) clear the Time Capsule disk and start over again with new backups

If you don't mind clear on the Time Capsule backup history and start all over again, it is of course the most economical way to continue. If you want to keep your old backups intact, then go with option 1 or 2.

  • Questions of Time Capsule, I have to rename my sparsebundle?

I recently started having problems with my Airport with Time Capsule, and after doing a bunch of other updates of my system, I wonder if the name of my sparsebundle could ask questions.  A bit of history behind what I have made, please bear with me while I explain all of this.

I bought my Airport with Time Capsule in November 2014 and it had worked well until February of this year.  We have changed our internet service provider, and the day that we did this, I had to unplugging everything on my desk to reorganize things.  I plugged everything in, my wifi was working fine, and I never had a problem with my Time Capsule, so I don't even think to check it out.  But then I got an alert one day say that my machine has not been saved in 12 days.  I tried to do a backup at this time, but it got stuck in the phase of "Looking for backup drive.  By trial and error, I found if I power cycle my Airport, I can get to find the reader and to make the backup, but it seems to be a temporary solution.  After a day or two or sometimes later that day after that the computer was put to sleep and woke up to the top, he would come back in the phase of 'Search'... ».

I did some research online, but most of the post I found is from 2008, 2012, etc., which concerned me the info might be exceeded.  At this point, I prefer not to erase my Time Capsule and start over, so I'll try different things to see if I can solve the problem before having the extreme path again.  I ran the utility disk on the sparsebundle several times. The first time that I ran it on the iMac, there was an error, but the second time I ran it, all seemed well.  And I get this error when I backup my iMac and my MacBookPro. Both are set to save in the same time Capsule and it seems to be a problem with real time Capsule machines.

I've done a lot of research and one of the things I found was that it might be my computer name causing some problems.  My computers have been appointed 'IMac of Lauriena' and ' Lauriena LastName MacBook Pro"(do not put my name in the post, but it's the same number of characters).  I've read since they have spaces and even the quotes could be causing the issues, so I changed the name of the two computers. I have them shortened to "Reenas_iMac" and "Reenas_MacBookPro" (although now I'm wondering if I should get rid of both the underscore character).  I also renamed "Lauriena airport Time Capsule" Time Capsule to "ReenasAirPortTimeCapsule".  After that I renamed the time Capsule, I made sure to enter Time Machine and reselect the drive to use for the backup, because he was looking for that on "Time Capsule of Lauriena airport.

One of the things I had read was that if you changed the name of your computer, the next time that you have made a backup it would take more time to save and it would also change the name of the sparsebundle to match the computer name.  I wanted to do, since my name sparsebundle imitated my computer before names, which means there are spaces and apostrophes in names.  But to my surprise, the name has not changed. Backups lasted longer than I expected based on what I had read, but the names have remained the same.

Until today, even with put the computer to sleep all night, the automatic backups seem to work, but I fear the name of the sparsebundle can turn against me. At this point, I'm doing everything I can to avoid future problems, and I hope I do not have to erase my sparsebundles and start over, if possible.  Especially because I get nervous at the idea of not having a backup, even if it's just for a short period of time. If it turns out that I have to do this, I'll do it, but I wanted to see if I had other options.

So my main question becomes, would the name of my sparsebundle potentially ask questions, and if so, is there a way to change this without remove it and start again?  If it helps, I use an iMac Mid and a MacBookPro 2011 Early 2011, both El Capitan 10.11.2 running. Currently, my sparsebundle names "Of Lauriena LastName MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" and "Lauriena iMac.sparsebundle".

I'm not loving the idea of change the sparsebundle names...

I welcome your change of name... I think that this translates into better reliability of network... but the fact is Time Machine is a little tricky beastie and unfortunately to know when it's messed up is often to the point that you want to use.

My recommend is exactly what you don't want to.

I'm doing everything I can to avoid future problems, and I hope I do not have to erase my sparsebundles and start over, if possible.

Because of mutual exclusivity to avoid future problems... and starting over. Your desire is to have your cake and eat it, but one or the other will give way.

If you want to keep your existing backups... make an archive of airport utility to a correctly formatted disk. Just keep it 3-6 months to accumulate enough history you probably never need.

Then do a quick erase of the TC and start over. Backups can be done much faster using ethernet... one at a time... and there is no time you will be missing a backup.

One of the things I had read was that if you changed the name of your computer, the next time that you have made a backup it would take more time to save and it would also change the name of the sparsebundle to match the computer name.

Just to explain this... The first part is just... a backup should take a long time because it checks the files...

The second part is not correct... TM cannot change the name of the sparsebundle to match the name... What I expected it to do in most cases, is start a new backup. Often, it's there for that... I tested it and found that it has begun a new backup... but by design, TM does NOT use the name of the computer... It is related to the UUID of the disc.

    http://pondini.org/TM/works.html

Read great Pondini KB if you want to better understand.

IMHO, if it's using the existing backup... then the change of name of the computer was not relevant... and backups should go... but my confidence in TM is reduced.

Since you seem concerned to have good backups... Let me suggest a dual approach. Keep running TM as you are... It does a good job of incremental backups.

But download Carbon Copy clone (it of about $40 and covers multiple computers in your household). You can trial for a month to see if you really like it. Create a clone bootable on USB plugged into your computer, you need to separate those for computers... but it doesn't have to be a small disc auto powered of the same capacity as the startup disk. (or larger than files with a little space) for units 1 to are fine, unless that is your Mac has Monster drives.

Then the trial a boot from the clone... Hold down the option key when the computer is booting and select the USB drive... and you know after a few minutes you have a completely viable functional backup. All your files will be there and everything work exactly as before... because he is a true clone.

  • Airport Time Capsule re - install

Hi all. I had an accident on my Time Capsule airport and were not able to access it from.  The capsule was repaired, but my computer no longer recognizes.  Also, when I try to access, it requires a password that will be years and I don't remember.  Then, I tried the soft, hard and reset procedures listed in the support area and none of them work effectively.  I'm supposed to get a yellow light flashing rapid when the hard or factory is completed.  I only get the usual slow flashing yellow, and nothing has changed when trying to gain access through the time capsule.  I tried to go through utilities the utilities from the airport, without success.  Can anyone offer any other suggestions?

I'm supposed to get a yellow light flashing rapid when the hard or factory is completed.  I only get the usual slow flashing yellow and nothing has changed when trying to gain access through the time capsule

If the time Capsule was lit for a few minutes and you hold in the reset button on the back of the time Capsule 7 to 8 seconds... and that the light orange do not start blinking quickly after a few seconds to hold the reset button... then the reset button does not work... maybe because a small spacer was dislodged when the Capsule was opened for repairs.

Resume time Capsule and have the shop the reset button fix.

I am pretty confused at this point and don't know what to do.  I searched a lot of things, but can not find someone with this issue says .

    Any help would be appreciated!

You have massively changed the network.

So it is little surprise that TM has lost connection. TB is no longer in the same place.

-Time Machine wants to do a backup complete of any HD on MBP; shows some previous backups, but shows used the Time Capsule disk storage:

That's okay... because of the new configuration TM cannot detect the old backup, until she starts again. Apple never indicate anywhere... but TM can never find older backups on a network when they moved the place. It is a fact of how works the beastie TM.

What you need to do, is to be very brave. Feeling brave?

Select the data... the dancing men would probably be best. (Which means a network of road... wireless icon means a disk on the wireless... and will most likely also work... After all, it's the same thing).

And TM will say that it will start a new backup in 120 sec (I never understood the timed fuse 2 min. time to clear the building?)

When TM begins... She will discover that the old backup is always there... Check for fingerprints... I own it... Check it against your current hard drive... If all extracted TM will then make an incremental backup... You are reconnected to your backups... woo hoo!

In case of failure... you will have a new backup and an old... It's also very well... wait a few weeks or a month or two... and then you can remove the old backup of the TC. Or store it on a USB key if the atmosphere is for old things.

Apple documentation for most things is now seriously lacking. All the technical aspects are hidden from the great unwashed.

  • Time Capsule Internet

I recently moved houses and received a new router xfinity, the new router uses dual band wifi. (I don't have it in my old house)

Before you set up my time capsule 2 TB, I had two options wifi, one using 5 (for computers) and the other using 2 (for phones).

After I set up my time capsule I had a third option (my time capsule), is when I am confused.

    I started thinking questions-

    • I thought it was going to get rid of the other two and put it in a
    • This product contain 2 speeds and 5 speed
    • is it possible to hide the other two but uses the main as the only?

If someone can explain to me how it works and maybe if I can do what I want to id be grateful.

You can run two routers wireless dual band side by side without any problems.

Both will issue on 2.4 ghz and 5 GHz.

Phones and devices can connect to a wifi.

There is no confusion. Both routers have names different wifi.

If you don't want that one name for all... manually change the names.

Setup the TC with the same name as the Xfinity wireless... same password. Phones and computers will join then regardless of the band and the router is best for them.

Phones can connect to 5 GHz if you iphone5 or later version. Computer can still connect to these two groups. There is no separation of 5 GHz for computers and 2.4 ghz for phones... everyone is joining the best signal in this situation.

  • Encryption of the existing backups on Time Capsule

I have old backups on my TC since 2009. I need them and I don't want to lose them. But I also want to encrypt and have access to all backups in Time Machine, because of private and confidential data. This procedure might work?

    • Open the Time Machine pane in system preferences.
    • Turn off time Machine then click on the button "Select Disk... ».
    • Remove your current backup disk.
    • Then, simply select the drive as your backup once more and check the option "Encrypt backups" and enter a password for the backup. Apple will now encrypt the entire disk backup - including your previous backups.
    • Finally, turn on Time Machine, and you're all set!

    http://www.mactrast.com/2013/07/how-to-public-how-to-encrypt-time-machine-backup s-with-os-x.

    Thank you!

In theory, this will work.  In the practice, this work probably, but... and that's a very big BUT... it's going to take forever and a day to encrypt all the backups of the old man, which is something that the article forgot to mention.

Even if you have your Mac connected to time Capsule using an Ethernet cable... it will take days and perhaps more than a week for the initial process to complete, depending on the amount of data you have on the Time Capsule.

A lot can go wrong over the days and days of a backup, so if you decide to try this... Make sure you have at least a copy or an Archive... of all the data on the Time Capsule disk... before... .you start the encryption process.

  • Time capsule - connection problem

between my IMac and time capsule ethernet cable does not connect. Airport utility cannot find the time capsule. I tried another cable - also unsuccessful. Any suggestions to fix the problem? He had worked so well until I had to unplug from the time capsule.

    Hi midonn,

First thing, I would recommend checking your TimeCapsule answers correctly, it might be a good idea to take a look at the option of soft reset to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201945

What changed recently since the last, it worked? To install new software on your Mac?

  • Airport Time Capsule poor connection

I had the Comcast modem and Time Capsule works well for 4 years.  Comcast sent a new modem 6 weeks, who as I discovered is also a router.  Cannot maintain stable Time Capsule communication.  I basically have the choice of the two wifi settings, one for the modem/router to Comcast that works well, one for the time Capsule, which does not.  My backup depends on the connection of Time Capsule.  Tried to fill the Comcast modem - no internet at all.  I did a soft reset resets, hard, even a factory reset, nothing helps.  Also "upgraded" to El Capitan at about the same time.  Sigh!

Ask Comcast to replace the modem/router or gateway that they sent you... is not required. .. .with a simple modem... you don't need.  (There will be only one Ethernet port, as in the example below).

  • Can I start again with time capsule 2 TB existing using an existing iMac and a new iMac.

Trying to understand several iMacs and Time Capsule.  Can I save a 2 iMacs on my Time Capsule?  I am running AutoCAD LT 1015 on my new iMac, so far, I've not put back up on my Time Capsule.  I'm worried it might be a problem with the existing backup tutorial AutoCAD on the Time Capsule, interfering with the new version purchased.  Therefore, I wonder if I can remove the Time Capsule saved since the original iMac info and start back up both machines it again?

I wonder if I can remove the Time Capsule saved since the original iMac info and start back up both machines it again?

Yes you can. The way simplest and quickest way to accomplish what you want is clear the Time Capsule disk and then start over again with a new backup of a Mac. Then, once it's over, make a new backup of the other Mac.

When the two Macs have saved for the first time, then both will continue back up automatically and gradually.

  • Backup to Time Capsule and an external hard drive

    Hi all

For several years, I use as a router Time Capsule and a backup device. Recently I found information about to associate an additional external hard drive for backup. For me it's a backup just to be sure when my Time Capsule would fail.

I found information on the internet that it was easy to switch between the two devices. I connected the external hard drive in the time Capsule.

But after installing the external hard drive my Time Capsule is not able to back up more!

Please, could you help me find a solution. It would be great for me.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Diana

I suggest that you get first back ups goes again on the Time Capsule, then we can discuss adding the USB key as a second backup source.

For now, if please power off the power and unplug the USB of the time Capsule.

(Gear on the dock icon)... open Mac system preferences, then open Time Machine

Make sure that Time Machine is running

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the backup drives, make sure that the Time Capsule disk (named 'Data', unless you have changed the name) appears

If it isn't, then click data under available disks

    Then, click on disk use

Close the window and now, click the 'clock' Time machine at the top of the screen

Click on NTI Backup Now and who should get backups start on the Time Capsule

After the return when you have confirmed that this is the case

  • drive time capsule is not available

The time capsule disk is not available.

    Finally, he worked on 08/08/2016.

If the capsule is on a wireless network, other devices work on this network? Have you checked your settings on the screen of Airport utility? You've restarted the router?

The time Capsule is the computer wifi range? Time Capsule shows a green light?

  • How to format drive time capsule?

I bought and set up a new iMac. I would like to delete the existing data on my time capsule disk. How can I go about it?
