Microsoft Security Essentials is compatible with Antivirus programs?
I want to know if Microsoft Security Essentials can be used in conjunction with other programs such as Norton or McAfee Antivirus. Usually, a single Antivirus program denies it. I'm just curious, because I have Norton and I installed Microsoft Security Essentials on a VAIO from XP because Microsoft was pushing it and nobody mentions do not use if you already have antivirus software installed. It seems that everything is working OK, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Please advise because I wouldn't do something that would affect my computer.
Thank you

Oh yay fellow in love norton and mcafee. I can add you to the fan club? We have T-shirts, expressing our... love... for these programs. hehe
I'm kidding. On the fan club. I also share the feeling that
be freeze before I used these products. Conflicts occur between 2 programs trying to do the same thing, so if you had 2 AV programs both with antivirus real-time protection, they would have conflict while dealing with the virus.
So as long as you do not have 2 programs trying to protect you against the same thing at the same time, you'll probably be fine.
On my computer I have MSE for protection in real time, Spybot to monitor my registry (among others), and Malwarebytes just like an anti-malware scanner, not real-time protection and I cannot remember a time when I never had any conflict.

McAfee VirsuScan & Microsoft Security Essentials - that both are necessary?
I just MSE on my new computer. It is installed and running.
I have a subscription with McAfee VirusScan Plus.
I understand the need for Antivirus software.
I don't want problems of 'conflict', and I of is not to have more things that I really need to be 'safe' (a relative term).
Do I have the McAfee and MSE work together on the same computer?
Which leads to my basic question:
Should I also install McAfee VirusScan more in addition to MSE?
Thank you
Travis
Sorry I posted CCET question in a comment on another thread. I guess I'm 'ask a question' hope it's the right place.
Hello
You must have a program of security/antivirus on the computer even if it is not running
or used, because they will always load parts of themselves in memory. Even the remains of those
uninstalled can cause strange problems.Frankly I uninstall McAfee and run his removal tool to avoid problems causing leftovers

My brother-in-law gave me his laptop Dell Latitude D610 to work on. It was loaded with virus and almost completely non-functional. I installed an old windows XP Home Edition SP1 upgrade disk (I had to insert my plu too Windows 98 disc) on it because I had no original disks supplied with the computer. I am therefore perfectly legal with that. I installed it and I activated it until I went through updates. When I finished updates of service pack to download SP2 to the execution of the method to update to SP3. I tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials however it would not load and said I had to VALIDATE windows. I already got it activated prior to all other updates. How can I fix it? When I try to validate windows all I see is a white screen, so I can't go any further! So basically I have 2 problems I need to validate (the computer says that Windows is already activated when I click on the button "Activate Windows"). And I get the white screen when I try to validate... Please help I know it's legal software, just old.

Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is disabled. I have Win XP Professtional and'm running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials times which I recently uninstalled, restarted the computer and reinstalled more updated. I read related security problems, but I have not found a match. I have a screenshot of the Win Security Center Alert, but unable to attach. It is said: ' Windows found multiple antivirus programs on this computer, but they all report that they could be updated or disabled. " Click on the recommendations for suggested actions... [what I did without success, i.e. update. «[I uninstalled, stop, rebooted and reinstalled and updated]»
When I shoot to the top of MSE it says, "protection is enabled, and updated definitions.
Windows Defender said: "Nothing detected" and "computer running normally."
Before the uninstall and update, I ran System Mechanic from Iolo, who has done wonders for speed.

When it comes to antivirus software, you want one and only one installed and running on your computer. Two or more may come into conflict with eachother and degrade performance. I advise you to uninstall Windows defender and use soley mse.
also I strongly suggest that you avoid using "PC optimization" tools. They can help a little, but they often do more harm than good.

My computer is a hand used computer, my OS is a Version full Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 in its original box. Due to unforeseen circumstances of a separation of marriage, I can find is no longer the box with documentation. Fortunately, in the past, I had the disc with the product key on hand-written for guard duty. Previously, I had Windows 98 but used the full format of Windows XP option to place the hard drive in the pure State and installed XP on it. I've been using XP since with very few bugs. During the past months, I have been attacked by a variety of viruses, attempted a handful of anti-virus programs, for the most part, they have removed most of the viruses, but unfortunately I had to put in the Installation of Windows XP disk and choose the option fresh installation. It wasn't a problem for the first handful of succesfully install a new OS on my computer. Regretably, I didn't notice any warning on the last time that I realized what I supposively to exceed my uses of my product key if I tried to activate XP once more. Now I'm left only with 30 days to activate my Windows XP and Microsoft Activation will not activate my installation without a new key not found on the original documentation. At first, I was angry that the system that I've spent a lot of money on is no longer usable with the freedom to use the true copy under license from XP on my computer only used a hand that I took good care of for nearly seven years because I wasn't not ADEQUITELY has WARNED NOT to UPDATE MY COMPUTER a CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME BECAUSE I WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE to ACTIVATE IT , especially during so many active viruses out there. So, in the end, indirectly, the virus destroyed my system "but through the limited use on my computer even Microsoft is able to slowly kill my computer within 30 days." Second, the XP has been out over a period of several years, and as matter of fact, Microsoft is almost to the point of not even support XP. Why is it a big deal to have my current XP. I have reviewed the latest Versions of software a few OS through Microsoft, while I would be interested in the Version of Windows 7. After be let down with my freedom to update my OS as a solution to harder viruses on the Internet today, I am skeptical of Microsoft product and I'm starting to browse the other OS on the market that sell me a license to refresh my computer even as many times I have come to fight against the malicious viruses out there. Can someone tell me how to get my XP reactivated before the 30 days is up? I'll even do fresh install more if that's what it takes to get this one last chance to have a successful XP activation.
