Microsoft Security Essentials is compatible with Antivirus programs?
I want to know if Microsoft Security Essentials can be used in conjunction with other programs such as Norton or McAfee Antivirus. Usually, a single Antivirus program denies it. I'm just curious, because I have Norton and I installed Microsoft Security Essentials on a VAIO from XP because Microsoft was pushing it and nobody mentions do not use if you already have antivirus software installed. It seems that everything is working OK, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Please advise because I wouldn't do something that would affect my computer.
Thank you

Oh yay fellow in love norton and mcafee. I can add you to the fan club? We have T-shirts, expressing our... love... for these programs. hehe
I'm kidding. On the fan club. I also share the feeling that
Conflicts occur between 2 programs trying to do the same thing, so if you had 2 AV programs both with antivirus real-time protection, they would have conflict while dealing with the virus. So as long as you do not have 2 programs trying to protect you against the same thing at the same time, you'll probably be fine. On my computer I have MSE for protection in real time, Spybot to monitor my registry (among others), and Malwarebytes just like an anti-malware scanner, not real-time protection and I cannot remember a time when I never had any conflict.

Hello
No.; they are two anti-virus programs and as such, they will conflict and can cause system hangs, freeze, etc..

Microsoft Security Essentials would conflict with Norton Security Suite?
I have Norton Security Suite on my computer, provided by my ISP. I've heard very good things about Microsoft Security Essentials. Can I install it or it would conflict with Norton?
It is never a good idea to use 2 applications of malware in real time. It is also unnecessary. Use one or the other.
It was me I'd use MSE, Symantec causing much too much gel, crashes and is almost impossible to remove.

I just downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. Now, I get my Firewall is not on Windows messages.
Question 1: What is Microsoft Security Essentials has a firewall? If so, then I know that I don't need the Windows Firewall.
Question 2: if not, then I have another problem. I tried to activate Windows Firewall and got a message saying that the Firewall Service cannot be turned on. Why do I get this message?
Thanks for your help.
Lynn
Microsoft Security Essentials NOT came with the firewall, you can use the Windows Firewall in your firewall. You must use the Windows Firewall.
For the error on the Windows Firewall, take a look on:

In this article, you may need to change a registry value, very careful when you do this. I suggest to backup registry before trying to solve.

Is "Microsoft Security Essentials" one program antivirus?
I am running a 64 bit system, portable. Bought with VISTA and upgraded to Wiondows 7 with Internet Explorer V.8
Currently I have "Security Essentials" but need to know if I need one another--or the best anti-virus program.
I have no problem to speak of, but would rather be safe than sorry.
Thanks to you all.

Among thethe free, Avast and Avira Antivir is the best. The only oneI think that is better is NOD32, which you have to pay for and is onlya little better.Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP

When I'm trying to remedy this by installing the Microsoft Security Essentials - I shows me that it is already installed and working correctly. What gives - why the red shield WARNING?
In fact, after execution of the malware analysis microsoft among others, I uninstalled Google Chrome and now everything is back to normal and the browser speed has been restored.

Is Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus enough for a computer?
is microsoft antivirus esstional enough for a computer?
Hello
Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
Operation of the network.Prevx - Home - free
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)
Protected IE - mode
IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)
I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
right of IE)Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x
Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
disabled - click OK
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-downloadAvast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
Finish those you don't use).
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast
Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
http://www.prevx.com/ <-->-->
http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp <-->-->PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.aspAlso get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

How can I get Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus security?
After another year of Norton 360, I got the stupid games of Symantec, tired of the ot, uninstalled and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. I restarted my computer (Dell Dimension 8200 running Windows XP Pro 2002). After that, I ran services.msc impatiently as my program of service to show that my antivirus security worked and I had nothing to fear. Imgine my grief when my service center reported that my computer was always subject to viruses, worms, Trojan horses and other forms of malware. I thought, perhaps, I had reduced the activity of some vital download too quickly and, therefore, have prevented a good download. So I tried again, this time with a lot more patience... This time, I received a message that the program was already on my computer, asking if I wanted to replace it with the new download. Because the first time I acted in a hurry, I replied that I tried the second download try replacing the Lerna, this time with a lot more patience. There is no apparent change that showed the Security Center: no protection against the virus. How can I get Microsoft Security Essentials to act as my antivirus program and my Security Center to recognize it as such?
Hi David,
Glad to hear thiings are better. Do not forget to chek that MSE will automatically update the definitions that every 24-48 hours and regular tests are carried out. Also suggest that you go to settings > default Actions and change to quarantine all. don't forget to 'Save changes'. This is recommended to avoid problems such as potentially unwanted programs and the removal of the odd false positive.
You are definitely not alone in your skepticism about Norton and other paid for antimalware solutions.
Feel free to mark my initial response as response and/or useful.
Have a day without malware.
Kind regards
rhabdomantist

I removed Bitdefender because it slowed my computer down a lot. I then installed Windows Defender and updated and scanned the computer (no problem) and said it was "protect my computer". But the Windows Security Center does not see any antivirus, until I installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Why? And are two antivirus programs now runmning together?
Microsoft Security Essentials need to uninstall Windows Defender when it is installed. If youshould not uninstall via Add/Remove programs. See the following topics:
Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials
I hope this helps.
