I have a bad BIOS on L300 Satellite?

I have a Satellite L300. I don't think I've changed (upgrade) of the BIOS.
I had problems with Vista and get the wireless doesn't work on XP.

When I checked changed BIOS and has tried to update, I discovered that update to the newest BIOS on Toshiba site is 1.40, whereas the BIOS I have installed is 1.50 and I am not allowed to install a BIOS with a lower version number.

The BIOS seems messed up.
Some items are grayed out and cannot be accessed or modified.

Apart from the laptop to the Toshiba sending anyone has a suggestion on how to re - install the correct BIOS 1.40.

Thank you very much

Daka

Hello

The European Player Toshiba page provides drivers and different BIOS series of portable Satellite L300!
For certain series BIOS 1.4 came out and for some series, you won't find the BIOS
However, please could you put your laptop model number; Satellite L300-xxx and the number of Pxxxxxx?
Thank you.

By the way; usually the BIOS you cannot downgrade the BIOS version... as far as I know that ASP may downgrade the BIOS using another version of BIOS.

If you want to change the boot order, you can do this in the BIOS (F2 on startup) or you can also enter the START menu at the beginning upward.
Start your laptop and press F12 repeatedly.

When the boot menu appears, use the up and down arrows and choose CD/DVD.

  • Need help to recover a bad BIOS flash on Satellite L300D-01

I need your help to fix my laptop because the BIOS is not included in the guarantee.

    What happened:

I was downloading all the drivers from the site Web of Toshiba to make a CD-ROM of drivers, in case I need it.
I clicked the update of the BIOS when I drag and drop into a new folder and the BIOS start without asking and freezz about 50% I wait 30 min because I know THAT BIOS is critical, but after all this time I have no choice then to power off the computer.

Now when I turn on the computer, I have no disk image trying to read and she.

Now what I want to do is a CRISIS of recovery since this is the only option I have for now.

What I need, is that the BIOS file not the stupid .exe, but a ROM or .bin I think and instruction to do on this particular model.

Thanks for looking for my post and I hope that someone can help me here because repair $80 for a budget laptop is great.

I doubt that you might be able to repair this laptop for yourself.
The fact is that the ROM module has been flashed properly and I guess it must be flashed again using a traditional BIOS version.
This version of BIOS is NOT available on the Toshiba page. Only a victory according to BIOS version.

Therefore, you will need to contact the ASP in your country for a BIOS flashing module.

Mate sorry but I don't see another solution to the problem you.

  • During BIOS update by Satellite Pro A60 went down and did not start

    Hi all

I have a Satellite Pro A60 and I've updated the bios. To halfway the update, my laptop came down and started Hasna´t since. It only give a couple of beeps (trying to tell me the bios is damaged, I guess) and turns off again.

Tried to start with (~) key pressed (a tip I received from a friend), but without success.

I live in a country where there is no available Toshiba dealer and I rather not ship the laptop for repair.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    This doesn't sound good.
If during the POST, the BIOS detects a problem, it will normally display an error message visual on the monitor explaining what the problem is. However, if a problem is detected before it initializes BIOS video card or a video card is not present or not detected then BIOS will play through the Speaker beeps to let you know there is a problem.
Depending on the type of BIOS you have the BIOS can play beeps in a specific pattern to indicate what the problem is, or emits the signal even a few times indicating the problem.

In your case, it is possible to s you used a bad BIOS or bad BIOS procedure. Both can damage the motherboard.
To avoid such damage and mistakes, Toshiba published FAQ document.
How to upgrade the BIOS on most of the units!

That you should read before making updates to the BIOS!
Unfortunately, I n t think that you can fix yourself. I think you should ask to help ASP.

  • Portege 2010 - bad BIOS (block3)

    I have a portege 2010 with a bad bios
on normal startup, it goes to screen
BIOS (Block3) is damaged! (Call the repairman).

so I tried to reflash the bios in the usual way.
    do a disk with
    -----
    biosfile biofca6t.com
    chgbiosa.exe
    -----
and start either with the flashing the BIOS button (just to the left of the space bar)
or by pressing any key on-screen "block3.

It does not load the program chgbiosa.exe. who reads the bios file
    Hot flashes and it recharges
    -----
    Reading BIOS file...
Data erasure and writing the BIOS...

    ROM write successful!
    Utility finished
    -----
    Then it restarts

but unfortunately. nothing changes. He still goes to the display of block 3

so I think I can have damaged the chip of the bios on my hands.
Since the successful re-flash does nothing...

    -----------------
    NOT RECOMMENDED
So I decided to check if the chgbiosa actually do anything.
so, during the writing process, I unplugged the power.
(incomplete writing process) and I'm done with a (block 1)
damaged. An another bios update later.
and we are back to (Block3)
so it does not write in the bios
DO NOT TRY THIS: can erase the part "failsafe" of the bios
    ---------------------
so the question is. Where should I go from here.

I'm willing and able to unsolder the chip and flash also
but I don't have a bios not 'complete' user flashable part only of it since the official updates of the file...

can I order a new chip preflashed somewhere?

can I somehow totally clear the bios user box then it reflashing?

can - I somehow replace the bios (more than the standard chgbiosa way?)

can I transplanted the and of a motherboard Portege 2000
(the failsafe will start so I can flash with a bios P2010?)

I can start another tool, describing it as "chgbiosa.exe" on the floppy drive, which can be useful

can I do the smaller biosfile, so it won't need block3 (remove the logo toshiba etc.)
    from the rom file?

    Any suggestions are appreciated

This notebook is a project of the company. I am prepared to do anything...

    Hello

So many questions, and most of them must be answered by technicians. I really think you need professional help. I recommend you to call the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
To be honest, I don't think that you will be able to order this chip anywhere. Speak with the service.

By the way: mainboard renovated for Portege 2000/2010 with work well chip BIOS, I found on eBay for 39 euros, so if you can not do anything and BIOS repair buy new motherboard, Exchange and be happy.

Furthermore, I Portege 2000 and it's really nice laptop.

    Hello

The unknown BIOS password cannot be deleted or removed easily.
The unknown BIOS password can be removed ONLY by a certified maker Toshiba.

To my knowledge, the Satellite M30-742 PSM30E-7100V-EN was released in Europe (probably for the British market)
Then, probably, you should contact the ASP from Toshiba available to the United Kingdom in order to remove the BIOS password.

Here is a link to all Toshiba ASP available worldwide:

  • Have 4 GB of RAM on Satellite U400 but says OS only have 2 GB

Have recently downgraded notebook Toshiba Satellite U400 (model PSU44A-00J00C) of original Windows Vista business to Windows XP Pro (pack 3 update service) assistance of the system recovery discs. Have 4 GB of RAM installed on the laptop with 32-bit system and was reading that this amount with Windows Vista, but now the figure has decreased!

I got the digits in the information system:

    Total physical memory: 4 GB
    Available physical memory: 2 GB
    Total virtual memory: 2Gb
    Available virtual memory: 1.96 GB

My available physical memory should not read at least 3 GB? BIOS is reading at 4 GB. Have updated the bios and chipset without change.

Want to tighten a little more memory to the computer, since I installed it - is the best I can get 2 GB?

Thanks for your interest, look forward to your response.

    Hello

Start the DirectX using the dxdiag command.
You will find a few details and the info about the system.
The news of RAM should be available as well check what it says DirectX.

PS: Win 32-bit must be present about 3.2 GB of RAM. It's max and limited by the 32 bit OS.

  • BIOS (Block1) damaged - Satellite Pro 6000 - WinXP

    Hello

I tried to update my BIOS from Version 1.3 to 1.6. During this process my child presses the power button. The result is: I am not able to boot the machine. It asks me for a disc of maintenance, because the BIOS (Block1) is damaged. I have no records of maintenance, only some recovery CD they don't work and there is no file *.rom on them.

So, what can I do? Thanks in advance for your answers!
    Mac

    Dear Marcus,

I think you're right, the nightmare of anyone of flashing BIOS/PHONE/CD-PLAYER/I YOU-NAME-IT she lives today. You already know everything, it's never good to get either a bad BIOS, or a loss of power during this procedure.

Every newer BIOS has a protection mechanism which means that even in the case of an incomplete process of flashing, the area responsible for in the BIOS flash for the upgrade is NEVER DELETED. This means that you can download a firmware on your BIOS even if the procedure went wrong last time.
This "flash emergency programme" will automatically launch out of the BIOS when you turn on your laptop and are looking for a *. ROM file on your floppy drive. The floppy disk does not need to be bootable, just it should include this one required file.

I guess, the required ROM file is the same .bin file, which comes with your regularly updated BIOS... just rename in the ROM of the extension, but since I can't take the risk of provide you false information, I suggest you have your laptop repaired by a Toshiba authorized service provider.

There are just TOO MANY things that can hurt, especially if it's the last 'easy' way (without equipment) to get your laptop working again after a BIOS update failed.

    Kind regards
    chain

  • Corrupt BIOS on the Satellite X 200

I think I've damaged the BIOS on my Satellite X 200, when I tried to update the version of the BIOS using the software on Toshiba support page at
    http://UK.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK
    Satellite X 200 2.50 - WIN32 Toshiba

It seems to have applied the update; no error when running this utility. BUT my X 200 primer is more.
I suspect that the BIOS has been corrupted!
My X 200 is two and a half years, so more under warranty.

    What are my options?
The BIOS chip can be replaced? If so, how Toshiba likely to be practiced for this Service?

Would like to see that all the tips.

    Hello Tony

In my view there is not much you can do about it. The BIOS chip is damaged and only authorized Toshiba service can help you.
Try to contact the closest service and explain the situation.
