  Gerry, I have the same problem described by Joachim and rvc2.  It began with me after KB3004394 has been installed on 10 December.  KB3024777 has been installed on 13 December, but I still get the pop up saying "this computer is not running genuine Windows" with an 0x8004fe21 error code.

  Updates appear in the history of update of review, but do not appear in the installed updates.

  I also have a Dell machine and this is certainly a legitimate copy of Windows 7 (64-bit SP1) with the product code for Windows under the battery cover.

  Any solution yet?

  After the installation of Windows Service Pack 3 for Vista on my laptop it now won't work. When I turn it on it goes to a black screen with 2 options either start windows normally or launches the Startup Repair tool. If you choose the Startup Repair launch it goes to the loading of files then windows goes to a blue screen with a box "Options for recovering the system - installed program cannot start. Click ok to turn off the computer. Please help as I have a lot of photos stored on the hard drive and I don't want to lose them, but I want to fix my laptop at the moment cause its nothing more than a door stop. Thank you
