I have an emachines t3512 I lost the cd of system restore for.

I am running xp home. I just did an update and now when I try to restart, it passes through the drivers and stops at system32/drivers/agpCPQ.sys then stops, restarts, then did the same thing.  does anyone have an idea about this problem?

teenagesondidit,

  1. I would make sure that all your computer heat sinks are cleaned of dust.
  2. You may have a power supply going bad. (Probably that)
  3. Try to boot from your XP disk and fix you the system if the computer turns off again its very probably the power supply.

Good luck! Please rate me upward if you find my post helpful. Thank you!

  • After a virus, I've lost the system restore for cannot defragment now. Also lost system tools/options.

Original title: after a virus, I've lost the system restore for cannot defragment now

I had a virus which caused problems one of the minor being I've lost the system tools. It now says its empty when I open it.

You don't need system defragmentation tools.

You can defragment from the hard drive, then right-click of your hard drive, properties, tools, defragment now.

Of course, you must fix your missing tools too.

Here's the easiest way I know (thank you, Ramesh):

Part of the answer to the technical support engineer Microsoft does not too which make me think that the MSE has never actually tested this Board to see if it actually works or not.  It's a shame.

In addition, these shortcuts are not part in the folder in any case.  These things must go in the folder for all users - if you don't want your XP to be ignored.  It is a source of embarrassment.

I don't know what you used to remove the virus, but I could do that at some point (soon):

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

  • What are the files keep system restore points?

I do a cleaning disc, but every time I did that it deletes my system restore points. What file I have to uncheck to prevent delete my system restore points?

    Thank you

    Hello

    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=Windows-7

Clean all the files on the computer:

System Restore and shadow copies. With this option, you can remove all but the most recent point on the restore disc.

Use system restore to return your system files to an earlier point in time, restore points. If your computer is running normally, you can save disk space by removing the previous restore points.

In some editions of Windows 7, restore points can include previous versions of files, called the shots and backup images created with Windows complete PC Backup. These files and images will also be deleted. For more information about system restore, refer to what is system restore?

    I hope this helps.

  • How to change the location of system restore

Hi, I can't understand WHERE W8 stores the System Restore Points that I create, so I created a 500 GB Partition on a disk external DRIVE that I would like to use to save files to the system restore and my question is WHERE in W8 can I CHANGE the location of system restore?
    Thank you for your help,
    Bob

Thank you guys, so I'm stuck with having food on my 'C' drive
Now I have to find a way to DEVELOP (increase in size) if the 'C' Drive to accommodate the pints of restore (I think they take a LOT of space).
    Thanks again for your help,
    Bob

    Hi Bob

As Entegy said, you can set the maximum amount of space that system restore is allowed to use.

The size of each Restore Point will depend on what has changed since the last restore point was created. Only the files that have changed will be saved in each restore point. Each restore point depends on the subsequent restore points.

These restore points are also used when you select this option to restore a previous Version of a particular file or folder.

You can also use the latest cleaning disc to remove all but restore point tool. This will immediately release a lot of disk space.

It is always sensible in this situation to achieve a malware check

Start the computer in safe mode with network and download and install Malwarebytes (free version for individuals only), updated definitions and run in safe mode. Disable other security software while you do the analyses.

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/

Download and run SuperAntiSpyware (Free Edition)

Vista Media recovery obtaining and/or using the Vista recovery on your computer Partition to factory settings .

There is no Vista free download legal available.

    http://welcome.HP.com/country/us/en/contact_us.html

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

I bought a laptop with Windows Vista. My father also uses the laptop, but hate Vista, so it has installed an older operating system. Fortunately now he has his own laptop, and I am free to remove the old operating system (it slows things down!). How can I do this without a backup of Windows Vista disk?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hello

I suggest you go through the steps and check if it helps.

    Right click on my computer

    (a) click on properties

    (b) go to the Advanced tab

    (c) click on settings under startup & recovery

    (d) change the seconds to display the operating system to 0

    (e) to the operating system you want to start the default operating system to help the drop drop-down

    (f) click Ok

    (g) click on apply

    (h) click Ok

I would also ask you to contact the manufacturer of the hardware for the recovery media. You can also check if the system has a recovery partition, and if so, try to access, which will reinstall the original operating system.

you do not etc system restore disk cleanup to put your computer to the standards of the factory how you bought it if that's what you hear

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of vista recovery discs and also ask them if you have a vista recovery partition on your hard drive to reinstall vista back to factory standards

you will normally need to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process vista back to factory standards

Ask them the sequence of keys to use to start the process from the recovery partition
