  If you have not received an update from Nov 2011, you may be better to backup all your data (Photos, documents, bookmarks/favorites, emails, contacts, etc.) and then re-install windows from scratch and reload your data.   However, you can try the antivirus scans. Update your Anti Virus program and then run a full scan. then download, install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytesfree. Keep it free, no need to start a trial. See if either scan detects and removes malware.

  I finally got it!  I tried two other proposed solutions, then I ran the System File Checker, which is no problem, then I ran Check Disk.  Check disk found and repaired files in the file system of BITS among others.  After that, I'm now completely up to date with Windows Update.  I was ready to give up.  I'm glad I did not.  For anyone else having similar problems, don't give up, the answer is there.

  If you have purchased a retail package, it should include the disk for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Otherwise, you can download a backup copy at the following link and use the same product key that allows you to enable the 32-bit version. Its a possibility, you may need to reactivate by phone, see below for instructions:

  You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.
