I hear the ticking in the hard drive, but diagnostic tool (S.M.A.R.T) says his health.

Pavilion p6010in Desktop for 3 years using (product number: NC875AA #ACJ), for a few months, I hear the ticking in my hard drive, I suspect that it is its failure of hard drive, but my diagnostic tool (SMART) explains his good health.

Sound indicates a problem. I also use Ubuntu 12.04 with vista (even ubuntu says that the disc is in good health).

I'm confused why the sound is similar to a click of death as seen in the link (my hard drive Seagate Barracuda 500 GB) below

Seagate desktop with heads of default drive get stolen, then clicking sound.

Please tell me what I should do now. I also Plan to upgrade to Windows 8 (I won't use Ubuntu anymore).

I suggest you replace your hard drive before the upgrade to avoid all these problems. The new hard drive should be the same size or larger that one you have for the recovery discs to work properly. Install Windows 8 on the new hard drive.

Once Windows 8 has been installed successfully make a new set of recovery disc for Windows 8 so that if everything fails, you can the recovery disc restores on Windows 8.

If its SATA you need SATA drivers to install. Since the XP CD doesn't have the SATA drivers on it

Unless you disable the AHCI in the BIOS. Or their wake.

Or get the SATA drivers. Check out them on diskette, press F6 during installation and then add them.

I need to format the hard drive but don't have the windows vista disc to reinstall, but have had the key code that vista was preinstalled do I have to buy a new drive for vista

    Hello

    How to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

  • Windows 7 and bios sees not the hard drive, but when I connect the hard drive to the USB with an adapter, I see directories and files

    Please, I need pc

Original title: windows 7 and bios does not see the hard drive. but when I connect the hard drive to the USB with an adapter, I see directories and files... Ive a hp Pavilion, what to do?

Check the BIOS for hard drive setting.

Make sure that you do not connect the drive to a SATA/RAID port.

Old IDE drives - check the jumper on the drive (use "Cable Select" as a starting point), the BIOS must also be set in legacy/compatibility/IDE mode. Note: If you currently use the AHCI mode, then switch to IDE mode may cause Windows to boot.

  • Copy the files from the flash drive on the hard drive but I don't want to copy the files I already have.

I have Windows XP.  I have a flash drive with many files that I have on my second hard drive.  I just it copies the files that I have on the hard drive and I don't want to have to sit and answer 'yes' or 'no' question about the replacement of files each time that it recognizes a file duplicate. How do I do that?

When you see this double prompt or not, are there not a checkbox that says something like "Always do this for all files" or something in that sense?

You can manually copy the files. Here is the CTRL key while you click the files you want and then just drag them to the location on the HARD drive.
  • Transfer of files from the old HARD DRIVE to new computer without an old computer. (He's dead - can not use) I have the hard drive, but need help to transfer my old files and settings.

    ·        My old Win XP computer died - it is completely unusable. I bought a new PC with Win 7 Pro and 1 TB. I still have the old HARD DRIVE (250 GB) which I have attached on the new computer using an external enclosure supports SATA drives. The external hard drive is connected to the computer in USB 3.0. I checked that the new computer can see the external hard drive. (I also used for backups by changing the hard drive with a 2 TB drive 'mass storage' - that works.)

I searched the internet for possible solutions and found no help. If the transfer of files from Microsoft would change the disc to analyze, it would be simple. But if I select the OLD computer it scans the disk I'm on (new) - automatically.

Is there anyone who has had the same problem? He must be because computers die all the time and people buy new computers - who then, somehow, they get the former transferred files. I could do it manually, but that wouldn't change the settings. Last resort would be to buy an old computer XP (SATA), replace the drive. Transfer the files, and then sell this computer.

You may be able to recover your data files, but I hope that you will set up your new system to automatically backup a second internal hard drive or an external USB hard drive.

This suggestion may not work, but it's worth a try. Buy an external USB drive enclosure. They come in two sizes 2.5 "for the portable computer drives and 3.5" for desktop disks. You can purchase adapters for 3.5 "envelopes so that they can also be used with a portable player. Place the hard drive in the enclosure and connect to a USB port of another computer. Several hard disks are more able to start, but the contents of the disc can still be accessed, read and copied from the disk because you do not use the operating system on a failed disk.

Here is an example of the type of device, I suggest:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=external+hardrive+enclosure&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=14388537836&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=556960941559985931&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_32uorbwbuk_b

You need only to the speaker, that you see are not necessarily more expensive. Thereafter, you can put an old hard drive usable, an abandoned because you need a larger drive internal, in the enclosure and use it as additional external storage.

    TIA

There is no easy way since the only organizer knows what is indexed in the catalog.

You can use the backup / restore process to move your library to a new drive or a master folder. Only the files in the catalog will be there. You can remove all media files from the original location via the Explorer / Finder. This will take care of duplicates and missing files catalog.

Another way would be to work from selected records.

You run the process of "import" of a given folder. If there are new or old files not those registered, they will be added to the catalog, others, already in the catalog will be ignored. The 'batch import' should be what you want to delete. It also works with files in the subfolders of the selected one.

It is also possible to move files to a folder selected to an another new void; you select all in the thumbnail pane (not folders on the left panel) and use the command move or drag and drop the thumbnail space into the empty destination folder on the folders on the left panel. What will remain will be the 'imported step. '

  • Increased size of the hard drive but Windows C drive still shows smaller

I am trying to increase the size of the hard drive of my Windows XP virtual machine. I followed the instructions in the help to increase the size (rather than a second hard drive which suggested the FAQ I read later). My MAC finder shows a drop of water in my space of hard drive together, but the Windows C drive still shows the same amount as it had before starting the process. How can I get Windows to recognize the hard drive is bigger than it used to be? Will not install the program I am trying to load because of limited space.

Have you seen resizing virtual disks with step by step Instructions?

  • Replaced the HARD drive, but can not reinstall the operating system

    Evening,

I replaced the HARD drive on my laptop and used the sony recovery media kit, but the error message "can not configure windows to run on this hardware of computers.

The HARD drive is a Toshiba of the same style and size. Sony sent me two sets of disks, I replaced the HARD drive twice still have exactly the same problem.

Any ideas before using it as a target would be useful.

    Thank you

    C

It is possible that the new hard drive, you bought are 4 k sectors and not 512 KB, which is necessary to make it work properly.  If you have a practical clean Windows installation disc that give a try and see if you encounter the same error...

  • My office wouldn't boot and I received a S.M.A.R.T. message that told me that the hard drive was bad. I changed the hard drive, but it is always the same. It is running windows zp.

My desktop computer running windows xp. It begins to start but stops and keeps trying to start. It does not start in safe mode or any other mode. I have mfoundm a message that says S.M.A.R.T. and told me that my hard drive was bad. I replaced the drive hard drive with another drive that has been loaded with xp but it stil is.

I think that the answer to the replacement hard drive is in your question.

I replaced the drive hard drive with another drive that has been loaded with xp but it stil is.

You can not take a hard drive that was in another computer when the Windows installation, place it in another computer and boot from it. You will get a boot loop. It will start to load Windows then suddenly, re - start. This will be repeated again and again. You must install Windows on the disk hard while it is in the computer that you intend to use it with.

Can someone help me with the apple tv connection to my TV? My TV has only hdmi output which I already use for a satellite dish. The only other available exit is the HARD drive, but I only have a hdmi cable to hdmi. Is there such a thing as hard drive hdmi cable to? any help would be appreciated.

  • Satellite Pro P300 - remove the HARD drive to make a backup?

My P300 went to my local store to repair for a network card problem. I thought it was just a software problem or driver, so I wasn't worried that my machine is still under warranty. After investigation, they stated that they could not resolve the issue, so would be to reformat and reinstall the OS, they thought they should solve the problem.

To my horror, I found that they had broken the seals of guarantee and open to the top of the machine. They claimed the only way to save the P300 before reformat it, is to remove the HARD drive!
    Is this true?
(It turns out that a broken chip is to blame, but because they violated the warranty, Toshiba will not touch!)

Can anyone say about this the removal of HD to support it please?

    Hey,.

Normally it of not necessary to restore the factory settings with to remove the HARD drive but don t you worry about this. The laptop can still be opened from a service provider authorized without losing the warranty.

I also put t know why they did, perhaps they have checked the material. It would be possible because they have professional diagnostic tools.

But interesting to know whether or not your problem is now resolved?
