  What is the error message?  You can install version 3 without having to install version 2.  You'll just need the serial number of the version 2, when you go to turn on version 3.

  The first next check.

  Hold down the Windows key and press R.  In the run box, type msconfig and press ENTER.  In Windows System Configuration, click on the Startup tab, and then click the Advanced Options button.  If there is a check mark in the 'Maximum memory' box, click on the box to remove, click OK, click on apply, then OK in the previous window, and then restart the computer so that the change is taken into account.

  If the above does not apply to your system, shut down the laptop.  Tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Select the BIOS (usually f10) and under the Advanced or the Diagnostic tab, you should find the facility to perform a test on the memory.  Post back with the details of any error message.

  If you get no error against the test above.

  Follow the procedure in starting on Page 70 of your Service Guide & to remove and then replace the bars of memory of your.  Once completed, check what memory is now published.

  I try still didn t but friend of mine has had bad experience with it. He has used more than max but just defined by Toshiba memory max memory has been recognized. In my opinion, you can try to use more than 512 MB. I'm not so sure that any capacity to be recognized.

  As far as I know your unit has only 16 MB of video RAM and I'm pretty sure that this low capacity of the graphics card is the reason for slow graphic illustration or graphic editing.

  3. has anyone actually tried to put into one or two modules of 256 MB memory in the memory banks and see what happens? Are they recognized?

  It is clearly an expensive experiment to try then I would hear earlier for other people who may have already explored these options rather than buying the memory myself to see what is not recognized!   I have gift? t understand why you want to use this module of 256 MB. If you want to have the maximum performance, don? t complicate just use tested parts and enjoy life.

  If I understand this right info your a Portege already maximum RAM.
  Is that your laptop Portege can manage with 8 GB memory max. On board, there are already 4 GB and there is only one slot of RAM available for upgrade that also contains a 4 GB RAM module.
  In other words, your laptop is already maximum RAM and upgrade is not possible.
