I installed Windows XP & the computer tells me that I have no audio drivers. What should I do?

I have no sound

After a clean install of the operating system, you must then install the drivers for all your hardware.

Never get the drivers from Windows Update. Bring:

1. site of the device mftr. ; OR
2. site of the card mother mftr. If the material is on board; OR
3. website of the OEM manufacturer for your specific machine if you have a PC OEM (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the Web site where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. read all documentation that you got when you purchased the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, access the site Web of the OEM for your specific model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. download, install and run a program of inventory of the free system like Belarc Advisor or System Information for Windows.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • When I try to install firefox 6 my computer tells me that I have no authority

I'm on OSX 10.5.8 when I slip the new version for the spot application it says that I don't have enough privileges for some of the items.

If you have problems with the update or the permissions then more simple is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop DMG

    • Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
    • Install the new version you downloaded

Your profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you will not lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

    tan7655,
If I read this correctly, you have a portable computer that do not have an operating system on it.  You try to install Vista and get the error.
You've restarted the Vista installation?  So then you get the same error? If you have tried to install more than once and continue to receive this error, check that the laptop is capable of Vista?  You may need to check with the manufacturer of the laptop to see if it is able to support Vista. Run Windows Update - it may install drivers that does not get installed on Windows 7 home.

If this does not help, look for Windows 7 drivers for this device on the Sony web site.
