  OK, I might have already solved my problem.  I tried only to open AVI justONE file.  I have other AVI files and then I tried to open WMPlayer worked.  I did the AVI WMPlayer could not play.  I checked this with VLC player AVI fiel, and showed what VLC was weird.  I guess that the AVI file has been corrupted.

  Adding to the suggestion posted by user "mnmagri", I suggest you to perform the auditor tool (SFC.exe) system files to make the file system safe are
  intact and replace the file. Follow these steps:

  1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
  2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.
  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
  3. at the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:

  Windows Movie Maker works fine with my Vista OS until I get to the part "Publish movie" (which used to work without problem). I import .avi or .wmv files, edit, split, add effects and titles and it looks good, but now, when I try to publish, the white on windows and finally I get a message that "Movie Maker has stopped working". In this case to save for viewing on computer, DVD, electronic or otherwise. I successfully several projects recently published, so why this suddenly undertake happening?   Thank you very much for your answers.  I don't know if they would have worked or not because I brought my laptop to work.  My friend tried tech 'run as administrator', but still came with errors.  However, when I installed each individual program software (run as admin) one at a time I managed.  It took a lot more time of course, but I managed to get all the programs downloaded and installed.  So finally my solution to this problem and suggestion of anyone else having this problem are to choose only a piece of the software package to download both and "run as Administrator".

  Once the software is installed, it will not be removed under normal circumstances.

  I do not know if your computer is still infected and it is removed or the problem is that you can't 'see' photoshop' but it is always installed.

  to verify this, check the installation directory and check its size on your hard drive.

  You won't be able to re - install using the discs and the number of series that you used initially, but we have a solution.
