I'm locked out IMAP without a password and I don't know what password is required.

I had an unauthorized attempt to access my Gmail account which was blocked. Gmail asked me to change my password for Google, I did. Gmail now works fine, but Thunderbird ask now for:

"Enter your [email protected]@imap.gmail.com password: ' I

    1. Put in the new password several times and gets rejected each time, and
    2. I deleted the old password, as well as the new password, that Thunderbird recorded, several times (The only way to change a password saved by the password manager is to delete it, get prompted for the new password the next time it needs it, and then tell it again to save that password. You can delete the password using Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Passwords -> View Saved Passwords by selecting the password and then pressing the Remove button). I have been prompted for the new

password.

I get the tiny generated response at the bottom right of my screen"alert [email protected] Thunderbird account: password specific Application required: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer=185833 (failure).

This question is similar to humans with problems in the Uk/Carribean, but Gmail did not generate a new password for me, I did.

New suggestions welcome!

Apparently, you have activated 2-factor authentication for your Google account. You will need to create a new password for specific application to Thunderbird.

There is no point using a different mail client or delete the account.
