I need 16-bit Applications on my new Windows 7 machine

Hey, guys...  I used to have a perfectly good XP Windows machine that could run all I had to do to support the contract for my clients, but unfortunately, due to events beyond my control, that PC is dead.  In a need to replace soon, I have a new machine running Windows 7.  It's sad to say, it does not work I absolutely need to continue operating as STMAP and Borland Paradox applications 6.  Are there ways to run it through some kind of emulator?

Otherwise, there is a saying in Information technology: your computer/software/operating system isn't obsolete if you can still do what to do with it.  Congratulations, Microsoft, which makes your new obsolete operating system on the first day.

Michael Marcus,

contractor Soon-to-be-out-of-Work

What part of my story of inadequacy calculation gives you the idea that I can easily put more money I don't have on another old computer, especially after recently bought a Windows PC obsolete pre?

I found several computers Windows XP on EBay for less than $50.00. I don't know what your hourly rate as a "soon to be out-of-work contractor" but a PC used $ 50.00 seems a very effective solution to solve your problems of compatibility.

Of course, you can install a virtual machine Windows XP on your Windows 7 PC, if the hardware supports. To find out what it is I recommend that you use a sentence like

Virtual PC Windows XP

with your favorite search engine.

  • Pass values JS in a Flex application in a new window

    I found how to pass values to JavaScript in a swf file embedded, but now I have a different scenario. I have a container ASP application that will launch a Flex application. The ASP application manages all security and users get the roles. When you click on a link to open the Flex application in a new window, I would like to pass the user name and the roles stored in the ASP JavaScript I think I need to use ExternalInterface.addCallback("IsStatic",IsStatic) on the side of Flex, but I have to do side Javascript in my ASP page?

    My JavaScript code in my ASP page looks like this:
    var launchedFlexApp = window.open("/apps/Flex/flexApp.swf","winFlexApp","width=850,height=600")

    Tracy,

    Passing values in the url param is the way that I had to make it work. I was able to access it in actionscript in the following way:

    tmpUserId = mx.core.Application.application.parameters.userId

    where the username after the .parameters is the name of the parameter in the query string that I went through the url.

  • New Windows 7 machine and old printer HP OfficeJet J4580

    I just bought a HP P7 1234 Windows 7 machine.  I plugged my old printer to my vista computer on my new HP machine.  It's a HP Officejet J4580 all-in-One.  Windows find drivers that work, but it did not load the HP Solution Center.

    I loaded the 130.0.44.62 HP Solution Center, but the function 'Add a device' does not see my printer connected to the USB port.

    As you can imagine after that reading the messages here, feeding high things and bottom, connection and disconnection of the devices is not work or help.  I can't not work printer from the HP Solution Center scan functions.  I am a loyal customer of HP, but it shouldn't be rocket science.  If there is no patch from HP that will make my HP Solution Center see my printer, or if not, there are only a few easy steps to solve this problem, can you recommend a current HP printer all in one for about $100 that will load and play as announced?

    Chris hoping he doesn't have to cut, delete, load and restart, load and restart, ad nauseam.

    Hello

    That's why I called many products such as Plug-n-Paray products (with many suppliers). In this case, please visit the following site to download the drivers for it and install them on your new computer.

  • Why not show 16-bit application icons upward from Windows Vista?

    Here's something that was so irritating since Windows Vista. I never solved the problem, but had to use a workaround by extracting a program's icon while running the extraction Windows XP programs, then using that ico file in any shortcuts to different 16-bit programs. In other cases, I use the icon found within a 32-bit program.

    Nothing seems to work when you create a link to the old DOS programs for DOS programs.

    Many of these programs, I always use cannot be replaced and will be replaced for various reasons.

    The problem is, whenever I try to create shortcuts to programs BACK, try to use icons in MORICONS. DLL does not work as it did in Windows XP. A similar problem occurs when you create shortcuts to 16-bit programs.

    In other situations, create shortcuts to files allows to change icons, but the second that the shortcut is pointing to a program icon disappears and I get the default icon of the "white paper" on my desktop and it cannot be changed.

    I thought what to do my usual solution, although it is an inconvenience, would suffice but also extract icons from 16-bit programs does not seem to work as expected in Windows 7 or in Windows Vista. The flavours of Windows and a number of programs that can be used to extract the icons give the error "the file contains no icons" when I know for a fact that the 16-bit Windows exe files contain actually icons! Windows Vista or Windows 7 can 'see' them.

    Anyone experienced this and have a solution to this problem in the long term?

    Hello d. Charles Pyle,.

    supported and the 16-bit icons has been removed in Windows 7. I can't work around the problem, you need to create your own icon as suggested in this post on TechNet.

    My suggestion would be to send your comments to do this on Windows 7.

  • Running 32-bit Applications on 64-bit Windows 7

    My operating system is 64 bit that I want to run 32-bit which program, what should I do? is it possible to run software to run on the 64-bit

    Updated object with a better description.

    Most 32-bit applications work fine on Windows 7 64 bit.

    If you have an application that does not support Windows 7 64 bits, you can try compatibility mode:

    See the developers website for compatibility with Windows 7 and if there are updates, corrections or difficulties that might ensure compatibility.

  • Open a new window, draw rectangles in the window and to communicate between the two windows

    I'm going to search for this, but thought I would jump start here in case someone can give me a link or point me in the right direction on how to do while I'm looking.  It is an area of Flex, I've not hit on yet.

    Basically, I need to have my flex (AIR Application) application opens a new window, allows the user to draw a rectangle in this new window and then move the info from the box (X and Y, Width and Height) return to the main window.

    I've never done any of this and I'll try to find out how, but if someone could point me here until I find it online, it would help a lot, kind of in a lack of time... Thank you.

    Sorry I think that I did not read the whole post.

    This loan: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/quickstart/launching_windows.html

    This is an easy way to get a NativeWindow

    1. create a MXML component based on the window. (I think that the canvas is by default...)

    2. in your main application ( for example..) import the component in my case:

    import com.test.components.SendSMS;

    3. instantiate the component and open it in a new window:

    var mySender:SendSMS = new SendSMS();
    mySender.height = 500;
    mySender.width = 500;

    mySender.open ();

    That's all... with all honesty, im not much away from you in the knowledge of the AIR, but people have been warm here and helped me, so I want to give something back.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

    I had a new satellite L750-A010 with OS win7/64, but I can't run programs 32 versions such as Simatic manager V505, product of siemens. Pls advise how I can fix this problem.

    Thank you all.

    Karam.

    Hello

    I m unaware software Siemens Simatic Manager V505. But perhaps this 32-bit applications needs a version of Win 7 32 bit.
    In this case, you need to install a Win 7 32 bit system on your laptop.
    But I recommend to ask support from Siemens for more information maybe there are a few patches, updates or similar solutions that don t require 32-bit system.

  • I need 32-bit to run access remotely for the work but have Windows 7 (64)

    I have a new Dell with Windows 7 laptop. To work from home, I use a program of remote access that will not work with 64 bit but needs 32. I have been informed that I need to buy Windows Vista. Is this really necessary?

    Thank you.

    Hello Lyndaware,

    Thank you for your message.  64-bit operating systems will be run 32-bit applications, however, you might have been told that your application is compatible with Windows 7.  I would advise that you check with your IT support to get better clarification of why you need Windows Vista.  For now, Microsoft sold more Vista, but you may be able to find a copy online or through your local dealer.

  • Cannot install older 32-bit applications on 64-bit Vista...

    I have several old applications I wrote VB3 - 6 and you want to install them on my new Dell running Vista 64 bit laptop.

    Whenever I try to install one of these older apps, including Visual Basic (studio) 6, I get the following message...
    "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using.  "Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x 86 (32-bit) or x 64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher.

    As I wrote some of the original applications and I am unable to install VB6, or for other peoples software, it comes to the latest version available.

    I tried to change the properties of the exe... tried to change the compatibility to XP SP2 and 98 and changing the Admin box too... no luck so far.

    1 - can I run 32-bit applications on 64-bit Vista?
    2 - If yes how?

    Thank you

    You can run most 32-bit applications on 64-bit OS; Anti-virus being a notable exception.
