I need to move a virtual machine on data centers in two different sites at the regional level.

I'm under VMware Virtual Center 2.5 and ESX server 3.5. I have 2 data centers in two different sites at the regional level. If the material could not be more distinct. The virtual machine is a complicated web server while it takes move rather than be rebuilt. I've heard of process not VM to get there, but it would be nice to have a process of VMware.

Can anyone offer some advice for a newbe?

Good luck buddy!

  • Move a virtual machine to turn off between two hosts, shared storage

    Dear Experts,

Please guide me for the next case. There are two hosts of Esxi, host 1 is Esxi 4.0 and host 2 is Esxi 4.1. There are store data SAN storage that is visible to both hosts.

I watched solard winds VM monitor utility that hosting 2 consumes 90% of the memory while its processor is ok. On host 1 is normal. So, I want to spend only a few VM of to host 1. So please correct me if what I think are OK. I will turn off the virtual machine to be moved from host 2. Then I it will remove host 2 inventory. Then on host 1, I'll go to the data store in the folder that VM and do a right click on the file 'say add to the inventory' and now I'm going to see this virtual machine in the inventory of the host list, just turn on and everything is perfect, is this correct?

Second question on the same hosts, there are a few other data stores that are visible to a host. As if this is the case there is a virtual machine on a data store that is visible to host 2 and I want to spend this VM to host 1 to reduce load on host 2. How to move this virtual machine because this data store is not visible to host 1? Will I have to copy this VM files in a data store that is visible to host 1? If YES then what real required to copy files?

    Kindly help me.

    Kind regards

From your description I m assuming that you use not vCenter to manage your hosts, correct?

If you have a store of data shared between two hosts you can do the steps you descripte (power off, remove the inventory etc.).

For your second case there are several ways, it depends on where you want to place the virtual machine in the future. Wouldn't be on the shared data store that already exists or can in the local data store on the other host? Or is there an option to also display the current data store to host 1?

If you want to copy the VM files copy the whole folder of it.

    Kind regards

  • Time Machine will back up to two different computers on the same hard drive?

I just got a Seagate Plus for Mac backup copy.  When I plugged it in, right away, he said "Would you use Time Machine?" (as opposed to included Seagate Dashboard).  I said 'Of course'.  It is then backed up my computer all with Time Machine.  So far so good.  But my wife also got an iMac, running OS 10.9.5 (don't ask!)  Can I plug the drive into his computer and ask Time Machine to back up?  Or who will crush the back-up, I just make my computer?

TimeMachine will gladly be backup Mac on the same drive and separate them.

  • How to move a virtual machine in the warehouses of data on ESXi 4.1.0

    All,

I need to move a virtual machine from a data store to another on the same host.  I have two drive bays where each array disk is its data store on.  However, one of them has problems if I want to move two of the virtual machine to a data to another store.

Is it possible through vsphere and if so, how?

    My host is a:

    Dell PowerEdge 2950

    vSphere Client Version 4.1.0

    VMware ESXi 4.1.0

    Hello

    1. turn off the virtual machine to be moved

    2. right click on the virtual machine, and then select Remove in the inventory (the fleeting VM on the data store)

    3. browse the data store, in the left pane, right-click on the folder of the virtual machine and select move to...

4 browse the new data store, open the VM folder

    5. save the .vmx file

    6. start the virtual machine in the new location and make sure that it works.

  • Move a virtual machine with USB

Howdy, I need to move multiple Virtual Machines in ESXi 4.1.0 from one office to the other. Move it online is not an option so a hard drive USB 3.0 drive or a thumb will be used. I understand how to browse the data store and download the files and folders on the hard drive and then upload them when I'll be there and then add to invitory, but my question is, what files should I? A typical for one of my machines directory has ABC.vmdk (50 GB), ABD_1.vmdk (50 GB), ABC - 8bffbd14.vswp (4 GB), 7 files vmware.log, ABC.nvram (8.4 KB), ABC.vmx (3.4 KB), ABC.vmxf (0.26 KB), ABC.vmsd (0b) and ABC - 8bffbd14.hlog (0b).

Which of these files should I send?

I know that I need the .vmx and a hard but I need two files hard?

.Vswp and .nvram files are important?

Also, delete the shots before I do, right?

    Thank you

    Brian

Open the vSphere Client here and choose the file-> deploy OVF model... option. Then just walk through the wizard.

  • How to move a virtual machine to another store of data on the same host

    Hello

I have a single ESX4 host with 3 data warehouses and I need to move a virtual machine to another data store, how can I do that since I don't have the ability to migrate the virtual machine when I am connected directly to the client with vSphere host and I do not have a server vCenter also?

    Thanks, Julien

    Hello

    Yes, you can use #vmkfstools-i /vmfs/volumes/datastore/VM/VM.vmdk /vmfs/volumes/datastore/VM1/VM1.vmdk

For the record, the data store must be shared if you copy of VM and VM must be turned off. In the above command you copy VM.vmdk to VM1.vmdk and add the newly created with this existing VMDK VM.

  • Move a virtual machine from an ESX3 server to another ESX3 server by using a flash drive

I looked at the following link:

    http://communities.VMware.com/thread/95022

It is close to what I need, but I need to move a virtual machine on the network.  The virtual machine is 80 GB and would take days to transfer.  I would like to copy the virtual machine locally on a USB and then take to the other server (on a remote site) and transfer it to what is now the ESX Server.  What is the best way to do it?

I tried to download the local ESX Server on my flash files using the utility of data/download store to browse.  However, he is stopped at 4 GB and said I was out of space, even if it is flash a lot of space.

    Thanks for the tips.

Another method is to export the virtual machine in the OVF format and store on the USB key and then import it form the USB on the new ESX host

  • I have a virtual machine that is resident on two data warehouses, and I need to move

Okay, I'm trying to reconfigure the storage on a cluster of ESXi to software development, and I fell on a virtual machine that is resident on two data warehouses.  Somehow, the user has configured this thing to have most of the VM files on the data store 5 while all the vmdk but the residence on the data store 1 boot drive.  He probably did it because of the size of the old warehouses of data and the many VMs older than his colleagues left sitting.  Well, now I just reconfigure data warehouses so that there is more usable space, but I can't move this machine a virtual so that I can reconfigure the rest of storage.  (For reference, the old warehouses of data have been implemented in 4 sets of three disks in RAID 3 and a set of four disks in RAID 3 with two drives hot spare.)  For the record: not my idea.  I am reconfiguring them now to be a set of 15 drives in RAID 6, divided into two LUNS on both controllers, with a hot spare.)

Well, now I need to figure out how to get this VM is spent at one of new data stores.  The data migration store feature does not work.  Any recommendations?

    Hi Dangingerich,

You can move the VMDK individually with the advanced functionality of storage vMotion allows you to ask the data disk on your new storage space and then have the OS disk track.

When you svMotioning click on the Advanced button

Here you can select the individual VMDK and move.

  • Move a virtual machine that has a raw lun mapped to SAN

    Dear all,

I need expert advice for this case. I have a virtual machine on a host with esxi 4.0, but due to many machines same virtual host we are experiencing memory problems and have decided to move this virtual machine to another host with less VM and less use of resources.

I plan 1 HR time to perform this task, this virtual machine have two drives one windows partition and the second 20 GB as mapped lun on SAN. So when you move it to another host, what I'll do is tap to stop the virtual machine, go to another host and storage switch to VM folder and add the VM.vmx file to add it to the inventory of the new host. What about the case of raw LUN mapped, how to take care of it.

Please advise, it is little urgent.

    Thank you

I guess there is no vCenter at stake here and you have no option for vMotion? The RDM, I would like to stop the virtual machine, detach the RDM LUN, migrating the virtual machine and re - attach the RDM.  As long as the two hosts can see SAN/RDM, you should be good with that.

  • Is it possible under the EULA to have several virtual machines on a single physical hard disk while using the same OS license or do I need a separate license for each virtual computer?

I have several programs that are not compatible with my 64 bit Windows 7 operating system.  I would like to run each different software under another virtual machine of VMWare (5 packs of different software programs and 5 different virtual machines of Windows XP).  These would all be installed on your laptop.  I can use the same license of Windows XP for each virtual machine, or do I need a separate XP license for each (different XP in case 5 licenses)?

It is lifted directly from my EULA:

    1. GRANT OF LICENSE.
The manufacturer that you grant the following rights, provided that
comply you with all terms and conditions of this EULA:
1.1 installation and use.  You may install, use, access,
display and run one copy of the SOFTWARE on
THE COMPUTER.  The SOFTWARE may not be used
by more than two 2-processor both on the
COMPUTER, unless a greater number is
indicated on the certificate of authenticity.
    Then...
This means that as long as you are running two or more instances of XP at the same TIME, you agree? Or does this mean that, after you install once, you have reached your limit?
I imagine that most people (including those who are running Microsoft!) will say that the second interpretation is correct.
    However...
If this is the case, anyone their hard drive as a backup to clone strategy would violate the EULA!
  • How to copy or move a virtual machine to one vCenter to another?

In the near future, we will have a HA cluster in a foreign vCenter, connected to a dedicated line. As far as I know, we are able to integrate the HA cluster in our vCenter, but are not able to copy or move a VM in our vCenter to another because there is no direct connection between the storage.

What will be the simplest possibility to copy or move a virtual machine to the other vCenter?

    Thanks in advance!

Through the OVF export vcenterA.Then copy VM module the OVF vcenterB file deploy.

  • Storage DRS, move a virtual machine that is in the data store is not a member of DTS

    Dear all,

If I've set up storage DRS that contains, for example, DS1 and DS2. I have another virtual machine that resides on DS that is not part of the cluster of DTS. Can I move this virtual machine to one of the (DS1, DS2) data store? OR will some disruptions?

    Thank you

    Jocelyn,

Which is correct in both cases. You can leave DTS place it for you (which is my suggestion), but I thought you wanted it to go to a specific data store.  That being said you can reactivate the DTS for a virtual machine under the SDR change settings if you do not ever clear for a virtual machine

  • Move a virtual machine

How to move a virtual machine to an esxi to another server? I have 2 esxi servers 5 that are managed by vserverplus.

I think that for the sake of this thread, which could get very long, if we try to explain vMotion, you can simply turn off the prompt.  Once the guest is turned off, do a right-click on the client and choose "migrate."  Follow the prompts to "change host".

  • Need a script for virtual machine availability

I know there is a metric for sys.uptime.latest which pulls the elapsed time in seconds surveyed of the virtual machine startup. Two questions

This allows VM cacluate uptime in a perspective of avalability host?

It only takes into account availability time between reboots to the vCenter level, or it takes into account all the running time? (example: uptime since a restart triggered via vCenter client vs a shutdown - r resulting in a virtual machine)

Does anyone have a scipt that could be used or modified to give VM uptime? PowerGUI has a performance data plugin which can show it on a unique basis of VM. But I need to interview all the data for the whole vCenter and all virtual machines.

    Thank you!

The metric of sys.uptime.latest gives you the time since the last poweron of the virtual machine.

All reboots of BONE, of in the comments or via the vSphere client, do not reset the counter.

This script gives you a report of the availability for all your virtual machines

    $vms = Get-VM Get-Stat -Entity $vms -Stat sys.uptime.latest -MaxSamples 1 | ` Select @{N="VM";E={$_.Entity.Name}},@{N="Uptime";E={$_.Value}}

  • move a virtual machine without taking down

I know it can be done with vSphere/vCenter, but only two standalone ESXi 4.1 servers, is it possible to move a VM from one to the other while the virtual machine is always on?

OR is there a way to move a virtual machine from a data store to another on the SAME ESX host without taking it down?

Of course I can ovf them and re - deploy anywhere, but which requires to take the virtual machine down?

you could use VMware Converter and convert a "machine engine.  In this way, you can leave the source running while you convert to the new destination.
