  Well, I did it.  I don't know how but I fell this bad thing that I had no video, just a total black look like if it stops at Midway through POST.  Don't even have at the password prompt.

  I tried all the drivers updates, restore, reinstall things and no joy.  I had the video in safe mode.

  So I did a restore of the entire system.  I keep good backups.  Everything is fine and even better I think.  The restore software didn't charge me with all the bloat that comes with the installation of stock.  And I took the opportunity to update some othe so software.

  The glitch only I have is that now my Touchpad Synaptics 'Settings' do not have the option for scrolling to two fingers, or other features that I liked.  In fact, there is only ONE feature that interests me.  It's the "Momentum" with the additional option to "Bounce" the pointer of the mouse on the edges of the screen.

  I have a Pavilion dv6_2190us and am running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

  I tried to download a driver from Synaptics and got the momentum thing, but it doesn't have the 'Bounce' function and the driver includes a clumsy dashboard that opens if you linger on too long touchpad.  I'm not like that.

  So far, I tried 'sp46509.exe' who doesn't have the features and "Synaptics_v15_2-20_C_XP64_Vista64_Win".... "and he's got this weird momentum without the rebound.

  Well, never mind, but just for FYI; It was to install an optional update on the Microsoft Update site that has been provided by Synaptics.  I know not why this feature was not available on the Synaptics site but I when I saw a Synaptics update as an optional update on the Windows Update, I first deleted the stupid driver, I have installed and reinstalled the original HP touchpad driver.  Then I downloaded and installed the optional update of WU and walla, I come back all my features.

  Still not sure how I dropped it but it is better than ever now.

  What you describe (especially the part about the bigger) resembles the screen LCD has been damaged. Black spots appear when the liquid crystal begins to spread out of cracks, over time the task will grow and grow.

  If you have some HP ADP (protection against accidental damage), you should contact HP for repair / replacement. Otherwise, you will need to repair the screen or get it repaired.
