I stole? Inspiron 3847 not as announced?

I just bought a 3847 renovated (built early 2013 origin, serial number G246W12) with a third-party provider via amazon.

Setting up, I found that I could not set the resolution of the screen to more than 1024 x 768, despite the fact that the computer I replace immediately (a gateway DX4840) detects the screen resolution appropriate to my monitor (an XYGen MG19MY) as 1280 x 1024.

I looked at the control panel screen resolution and ads for two machines Device Manager and found that the type of display, the graphics card, the type of chip adapter are different.  I don't know much about the hardware, but I guess that these differences are the reason why I'm having this problem, try to increase the screen resolution of the Dell printer.

So I would be grateful all wisdom, you can offer about two issues:

  1. "I've been robbed?" it comes: the seller to list specified "Graphics coprocessor: Intel Integrated Graphics; the real machine device manager says there "display map: Standard VGA graphics card.  (The entry door has "display card: Intel(r) HD Graphics", which looks much more like what announces the seller was promising.)  Is it not valid to claim that the adapter of the computer, I received was not what ad the seller promised?
  2. Is a graphics card improved something that I could buy and install myself?  (My skill level, is that I can do things like install cards in expansion slots and replace the chips in Sockets for chip).  If so, what would you suggest that I buy?  (If it's not too hard, I think it's maybe easier, cheaper and faster to try to get the seller to fix.)

~ Thanks in advance

~ Ken

PS ~ I've posted screenshots of this to .

  • Inspiron 3847 Office HDMI not wake up monitor

Just bought a desktop computer Inspiron 3847 with integrated graphics to assess if we bring to our society.  Connected to an ASUS HDMI monitor and have no video.  Could not understand what was going on so connected via VGA instead and it worked as expected.  Ultimately determined that the Inspiron does not send a signal of alarm for the monitor.  Tried the monitor on a different model computer and it worked correctly.  Tried another cable with the monitor and the Inspiron HDMI but no change.  So, it means using a HDMI on the Inspiron 3847 monitor to turn on the monitor after starting the computer for it to connect via HDMI.  Checked to see if there was a BIOS update, but I have the version 2, which was recently published.  Any suggestions on how to make the Inspiron wake up the monitor when the system is powered or exit the mode 'sleep'?

I had the same problem, but fortunately got better help Dell Cathaleen did.  I just bought an Inspiron 3847 of Dell desktop computer and also bought a new monitor ASUS from amazon.  Worked well with the VGA cable, but did not work with the HDMI cable.  The solution is simple, just do it once and you'll be ready to go. Basically, you need turn on the input screen while it is on the VGA HDMI cable. Then remove the VGA cable and install the HDMI cable.  Here's how: 1. hang your desktop on the screen with the VGA cable. 2. press "menu" on the monitor ASUS Punch.  3 scroll to 'Input Select' with the 'Down' button on the screen (just to the left of the menu button). 4 drill the menu button to switch to the list of the 5 cables.  Scroll down to select HDMI. 5. remove the VGA cable and install the HDMI cable.

As the 3847 bought two days earlier, better to return to the store for a refund or a replacement.

  • Inspiron 3847, no audio, Windows 8.1

The computer is new, came with Windows 8.1, but has no sound because it was out of the box.

I reinstalled the Realtek sound card drivers, but there is no sound. The CPU connects to the monitor Dell 24 - S2440L monitor via a VGA cable.

Check in the sounds option in Control Panel of speakers shows are necessary.  In my view, there is a message in his icon in the lower right that no speakers or headphones are connected.

Looked at the Dell manual at ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products-Infodev/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-3847-desktop_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf
and page 11, it seems they have a connector audio front panel

Run the Windows troubleshooting utility that did not help.

In Device Manager, I see peripheral Bluetooth Audio, audio from Intel, Realtek High Definition that have all the correct drivers Audio display.

Dell support think if I change the OS to Windows 7, I can get sound, but I have to buy the Windows 7 operating system

I was thinking more PC today come with an integrated sound card and external speakers are additional.

What could be the cause of the lack of audio? The volume is not set to mute.

I went to REALTEK website and downloaded a new driver yesterday.

    It seems to work.

  • response of optical drive Dell Inspiron 3847 - to insert a CD

My Dell Inspiron 3847 responded lately more slowly to insert a CD into the optical drive.  ("Reader DVD RW (E :) ("displays more slowly in the file Explorer after inserting a CD in the optical drive, and for CD splash screens are not displayed for several minutes.)

Can someone tell what is normally the time interval after inserting a CD in the optical drive?

It takes only a few seconds of when the drawer closes until the operating system recognizes and you can access the Conference on disarmament.  Did you run all the programs antivirus or antimalware software to check these things?  Missing updates from Windows Update?

  • Updated Inspiron 3847 of Win 7 Pro to Win Pro 8.1

We recently purchased Inspiron 3847 4 to replace some machines XP being retired.

They came with Windows 7 Pro installed and a «license for Windows 8.1 Pro»

Each came with a DVD titled:

    Operating system

    Already installed on your computer,

Recovery media Windows 8.1 for Windows 8.1 products, 64-bit

I expected there would be a few instructions on how to upgrade 7 Pro to Pro 8.1, or with the PC or online, but so far I have not found anything. Is my only option to do a full install from the DVD? The warnings, I need to know?

    Thank you very much!

No, you can upgrade.  Put in the disc and choose the upgrade path (not customized) to do an upgrade of Windows 8.  You can do a clean install of Windows 8 on top of Windows 7, but you don't have to.  You can consider running Windows 8 analysis tool to find out if you will need additional drivers after installation or if your installed software may or may not have known problems with it.

  • Selection of GPU for Dell Inspiron 3847

    I have a Dell Inspiron 3847

    Updated 650 W power supply

    8 GB ram

    Intel i3 processor

I would like to know some of the GPU, I could use for the games on my rig?

Unfortunately, the video slot machine is short.12 inches long cards do not physically go in nor be 10 inches long cards.

    I use a Radeon 250th R7.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814121800

With the upgrade PSU and R7 260 X should be fine, as long as it's a short card.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814202081

Power to the comes of power connections PCI-E on the upgraded 650W power supply.  A sovereign plastic will tell you what does or does not fit.  More than 8.5 inches is probably 10 to 12 inches does not work is not physically in.  You can use a plastic rule to see this for yourself.  8.5 inch seems to be Max.

  • Second hard drive Dell Inspiron 3847

Can someone direct me for information on the installation of a second hard drive for Inspiron 3847 computer for the purpose of the image upwards using the Acronis True Image Home software upward? There is room for an optical drive, which is totally alien to me, but nothing is said nowhere in the hardware in the user manual on the addition of second hard drive that seems to be a pretty normal material adding. No sense in this matter. First time forum thank you poster

    toplap

Dell has not released the procedures to install an additional SATA hard drive, the Inspiron 3847 has a 3.5 Bay ", one for the second hard drive next to the main hard drive, there should be a set of rails located in the Bay, two 6-32 X 1/4, Phillips head screws are required to secure the Rails.

Procedures on pages 26 to 28 of the owners manual should give you an idea of what is required for installation.

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/Inspiron-3847-desktop_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.PDF

You will need a SATA data cable, there should be a spare connector to SATA power inside the housing.

After you have installed the drive, enter the system setup and make sure the hard drive is "on" [We] and recognized.

For Windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be partitioned and formatted.

Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management, right click on the new drive, select format, then you can assign a drive letter.

  • Inspiron 3847 power specifications

    All,

I'm having some trouble with my Inspiron 3847 which seem to be the lack of related power. I am looking for the specs on the stock power supply (total wattage not - I know it's about 230w) as the number and types of connectors. I intend to replace with a power supply 500 watt - just need to know the configuration.

    Thank you

20-pin ATX 2.0 is all current dells are EPS 12v 2.92 which is 24pin. I did not, so I can only say that the size of the power supply is standard. It looks like a re-badged 620 Inspiron for me by all means including the hard drive bracket.  Release for 12 inches since long graphics cards is NOT there so this raises the biggest a feeding point.

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products-infoDev/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/Inspiron-3847-desktop_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.PDF

It has 4-pin and 24-pin standard.

  • EVGA GeForce GT 610 can I put my Inspiron 3847

I would like to know if I can install this EVGA GeForce GT 610 graphics card in my PC

I want to upgrade to a better graphics card

Model of the computer Inspiron 3847

You can use the best cards, but they need a better diet.

I use CS750M of Corsair and a GTX570.   Others have used up to GTX970, but only 9 inches long or less in the case of cards. So check the dimensions before you buy the card. The map below works fine with the EPS12V ready haswell of power upgrade.
