e-mail virus

Hi, I have pick up a virus from e-mail who contacted everyone on my contact list.  He left my mail hotmail and bell with the seeds which are very annoying.  He jumps from Inbox of spam without asking or it allows emails that should go to junk and it will allow you to expand (full bell mail view) I installed a lot of antivirus protection and took be examined and its still there.  Help please

Hi Dana,

1. what anti-virus software is installed on your computer?

2. do you have the full version of antivirus installed on your computer?

(a) I recommend you run a virus scan online from the link given below and check if the problem persists:

Microsoft safety scanner

Also, make sure that you have the latest update of the software antivirus installed on your computer, so that it works correctly.

(b) you can also download & run Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer.

If the problem persists, I recommend you to ask your question in the support forum for Windows Live Hotmail for assistance:

  • How will I know if I have deleted all the virus from Windows XP Recovery?

I ran Malwarebytes & Scanner security Microsoft, both said that they have deleted the infected files. My browser is redirected is when I try to follow a link, as it had been before. But when I look at the Task Manager, I see "iexplore.exe" sometimes 4 times or more, using thousands of k of memory, although I only see or looking at a web page.  I won't try to restore my files etc if I'm still infected.  Should I run scans more?  I'll try such superantispyware.com suggested in another answer.  I use System Mechanic with Iolo anti-virus that updates automatically, but of course, this does not prevent this infection.  A few weeks ago I bought 'Spyware Doctor', but he made me uninstall my Iolo which I had always liked, and it did not help, did not remove much - I ran it before the two I mentioned above.  I have uninstalled & reinstalled my Iolo.  Microsoft Safety Scanner & Malwarebytes does not appear to conflict with Iolo.

Do you think I should do more?

You write zeros to every part of the training, set back to "as delivered" and then format and install fresh about this.  It's * really * the only way to be 100% sure that you are completely rid of something like this in due time.

  • I want that my second acc't of e-mail to have its own name in the address book and contacts list and to rename the address book

I don't want to mix the personal contacts with business contacts. I like a second tab addresses to show when I have my business address opened in 'inbox '.

The personal book and collected books are the books of two default cannot be deleted, and suggested DO NOT rename them.

When you select this option to add a contact to an address book by clicking the star next to the address it will add to the personal address book. You can click on the star again to open the dialog box modify and change to place the contact in the address book.

The collected book collects addresses for outgoing messages.

There is no function by default to collect addresses of incoming e-mail.

Just to keep the terminology straight, Thunderbird has address books and mailing lists.
You can create new address books in the address book window by selecting file-new-address book.

You can create mailing lists within address books to use for distribution groups. The contact must exist in the address book where the mailing list is created to be added to the list. You create a mailing list by clicking on the button new list.

    Raz2009,
If you have a known problem with the virus then I suggest to get an antivirus program that you can boot from and run it without starting Windows.

Another option would be to format your drive and do a clean install of Windows (this would remove all the data of your drive).  If you have a backup of your data, this is the best course of action.  If you do not have a backup, you can then do a parallel install (This installs XP in a different folder if you don't lose any data). • I keep getting phone calls from a man who calls himself from Windows saying: I have a virus and to pay to get rid of him!

    • This man said that it comes from windows and I have a virus and you have to pay to remove! I know it's a lie and paid no attention, but I expect some vulnerable people might do! How can I report to microsoft? Has anyone actually paid these merchant scam?
Thank you for getting back on this type of scam.
Yes, some vulnerable people indeed caught up.

Microsoft has none of the unsolicited telephone calls to help you fix your computer

In this type of scam cybercriminals are calling you and claim to be of Support technique Microsoft. They offer help with your computer problems. Once scammers have earned your trust, they try to steal and damage your computer with malicious software, including viruses and spyware.

Although the law enforcement can trace phone numbers, often authors use pay telephones, disposable cell phones or stolen cellular phone numbers. It is better to avoid being scammed rather than try to repair the damage afterwards.

Treat all unsolicited sceptically telephone calls. Don't provide personal information.

If you receive an unsolicited call from someone who claims to be from Technical Support Microsoft, hang up. We do not have such calls.

If you think you might be a victim of fraud, you can report it.

My email has been hacked and used to send Spam. I have to perform a virus check, or simply change the password?

Do not install or run an anti virus app.

How do you know that your email has been "hacked"? It is a common practice for spammers to forge an envoy from the e-mail address. It may be that your email address has been misused. There's nothing to do if this is the case for you. The spammer will soon pass and usurp another email address.

It's a good idea to immediately change your password by email if someone would actually managed to access your e-mail account.
