I think my windows installer has DISAPPEARED-gives an error: 1601

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, which is about 4 years old. I use Windows Vista and the other day trying to download Nokia PC Suite was shocked to learn that I have a Windows Installer problem out of the blue. Windows Installer error 1601. I tried so many troubleshooting that it blows my brain. This morning I thought I MIGHT have found a solution following a forum. I went in 'services' in the search of Windows Installer, but it doesn't seem to be there! PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!

Windows Update no longer works! Error codes 641 and 80070641 appear. Have you tried troubleshooting, but all in vain. Everybody out there ideas, what happened to my laptop?

Another problem that I probably had me is also that my recovery is FULL - no disk space. I tried a backup and has probably done something of so so bad.
Any help would be so appreciated.
Thank you guys.

    Hi Isetta,

It seems that after installing Ubuntu, grub 2 took control of Boot Manager and changed the boot sequence. To change the startup entries to get Vista, you must contact Ubuntu for assistance on changing the grub boot entries 2.

My windows installer has stopped working. I tried several 'fixed' found on the net, but nothing is done and would be grateful if someone could guide me through the solution.   Windows XP, SP3.

  • Windows Installer has stopped working on Vista Ultimate 64 - bit SP2

    Hello

My Windows Installer has stopped working all of a sudden (probably common last week).  I get no error message at all.  It simply doesn't get it.  The programs can be installed and uninstalled by there own systems updated, but the changes are not reflected in "programs and features".  When I ask Windows Installer to run under programs and features, I get the usual verification pop-ups, but once I click on the last approval, nothing happens.

I tried to install a new Windows Installer from the Microsoft Download site and each time, the program "check updates" and I get an error message that says "this update does not apply to your version," (to paraphrase).  I tried to install Windows 6.0, v-2, x 64, but when it does not work I tried all (LOL) with the same result.

At first I thought that my computer can was struck by a malicious code, so I ran MSE, remove malicious software (FULL) Windows for January and Advanced System Care 3.  All scans is come-up 100% clean!

I tried to restore my computer to a point 3 days does not.  As Murphy's law would have, I disabled the restore before January 12 points.

Windows Update online might work.  I get notifications for optional updates for MSE and AFAIK, they are applied.

Edit: One more important thing, the uninstall on Advanced System Care 3 feature does more either.  It's almost like the hooks to the installer of Windows have been removed to that also.

Installation service seems to be very well and the value 'manual '.

Any thoughts on the subject?  I can reload Windows from "day 1", but would rather not.  Laughing out loud.  I have my drive so.  :-)

Thanks in advance for your help.

But I have to able to do work properly now. I'll post any major change (that I remember), just in case where someone wants to try what I did.

I deleted everything I could in my temporary files.

Then I went "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations" and cleared the entries.

    I went to HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/msiserver

By then replaced the key 'ImagePath' '%systemroot%system32\msiexec/v' '%systemroot%SysWOW64\msiexec/v '.

    Restarted my PC

    HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/msiserver/ImagePath change back to "%systemroot%system32\msiexec c".

A run "cmd" and input "msiexec /unreg" then he walked "msiexec/regserver".

  • Check Windows Update has disappeared

I disabled the box in Windows Update settingsso as to not give me updates for Microsoft products and not to check the new optional Microsoft software when I update Windows.

After that, the box has disappeared in the settings window, and I can't go back on my decision. I read somewhere that it could be corrected using the policy editor. I attemppted to do, but it did not work satisfactorily.

Is there an effective way to restore this box which has disappeared from the settings window?

    [Running Windwos 7 Pro 64-bit]

I found that I could try to clear the history in Windows Update as follows:

Paste this command to search for Windows.
    %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\

Go to the datastore folder, and delete the content. Reboot and re-scan updated them.

I did the above, after following the instructions of MowGreen wuauserv and bits.

After restarting the PC, the Windows Update page includes all the options and now shows the box who had disappeared.

The only thing I lost was the history of Windows Update.
