I upgraded my RAM but computer still freezes

I recently upgraded from 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM after that I noticed that the pressure of memory was at max in the activity monitor. I had frequent problems of freezing. However, after the upgrade, all programs are just using twice as much RAM as before and the computer still freezes.

Maybe it's a separate issue, but Safari uses about 4 GB of RAM only. If I close other programs, the use of RAM down temporarily but then it seems that Safari use increases to reach capacity.

Is this normal?

  • Upgrade of RAM but laptop still shows 4 GB RAM?

    Hey everybody,

I have a laptop HP DV6-3203TU bought at my local store Harvey Norman 2 years in Sydney.

I wanted to add another 4 GB of RAM for her because she 1 free slot.

My sister also has the same laptop so I took his 4 GB of RAM on and put it in my laptop to make it 8 GB of RAM... However, it has not changed. The parameters of the system still says 4 GB. I also checked the BIOS and it said still 4 GB of RAM.

I put it in the right way because he's going one way and I hear the click every time I do it.

More details on the laptop are:

    Laptop: HP DV6-3203TU
    Product number: LG225PA #ABG
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit Operating System
    RAM: 4 GB

Are there settings I need to change to the new RAM work or can this laptop doesn't have 4 GB of RAM in there?

Also, I put my 4 GB RAM in his laptop computer to rule out if my laptop was defective, but this does not also into her laptop.

    Thanks for any help.

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers to 7 (update drivers manually using the methods above is preferred
to make sure that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are located)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

  • Computer guard freezing - tried everything to fix it

Well, I really hope someone here can help me. I'm really at the end of my rope here. I have a laptop HP with Windows Vista. It generally works well (it's only a little more than a year and a half since I got it), but lately it has been freezing, restarting itself and goes to the Blue Screen of Death.

I've done all the checks that I can. I checked for malware, software software spyware and virus, which came back clean, or with problems that I fixed. I deleted all the latest downloads and updates of Windows. I cleaned the registry, clean disk and defragmented the disk. I did a restore of the system for a month (weeks before the problem started). I didn't get the blue screen or auto restart since yesterday, but it still freezes.

It seems that my only options are either restore to the factory settings (which I'm not entirely sure will work at this point) or take it to Best Buy. I really hope someone here can help as take it to Best Buy is a last resort (I have college classes four days a week I need my laptop for and the last time I took it to Best Buy, they had two weeks).

    Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with my old Toshiba laptop. My phone kept freezing when virus scanning or opening of some programs, I have to cut the power and opening upward once again, it would be several times a blue screen and then start, and then freeze again.

It turns out it is a HARD drive damaged to move the laptop or bump. Simply, I ran a full disk check and make it possible to correct problems with the HARD drive.

Now, I have a laptop with a HDD sensor, works excellent, can shake around and it stops just all HARD disk activity until its still pretty.

    I hope that helps!

  • The computer upgrade laptop RAM

Hi, I've had my HP Pavilion m6 1006tx for about 11 months now and I had success in the basic forms of games (minecraft and other training games not so much). Now, my computer has an Intel core i7-3612QM multi-core cpu clocked @ 2.1 ghz with intel boost 3.1 as well as 2 GB RAM graphics card dedicated AMD 7670. But I'm here to talk about upgrading my RAM, I noticed that 4 GB of RAM does not allow me to run a lot and all-in-all barely able to run a game requiring a minimum 2 GB of RAM, so I would like to know if I would cancel my warranty if I upgraded my RAM.

I also want to know if the RAM as the dicksmith (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/computer-accessories/dse-8gb-ddr3-1600mhz-nbook-ram-dsau-xm5717) would work with my laptop current RAM which comes with the laptop, as in can I use RAM of two different brands, first and second, can I used two different amounts of RAM at any given time?

Thanks for the reply if you do. Also if you need all the most characteristic, or do not understand anythings please indicate so and I will clarify with you details

My apologies, just need to really read it, I just read the forums main post with the upgrade and other things, I tried to look before and it has not loaded so I posted this but it's working now, sorry guys
