I want to delete unwanted system files.

Hi all

I want to delete temp. files. Can I use any software like cc cleaner windows built-in or I need to install cc cleaner and remove temporary files through cc cleaner only.

CCleaner is a third party tool, it does the same thing, just as you can manually delete the temporary files

Do not use the reg cleaning module of ccleaner

  • How can I locate the folder where my backup files are stored on my internal hard drive? I want to delete all backup files

operating system is windows vista laptop.

I went into system restore settings and couldn't find how to locate my saved files. I think they take a LOT of space, I deleted all other unused files and I have more than 6 GB of free space out of 67 concert. Help, please? I don't know much about computers at all.

    Hello

Follow the method of deleting a file of older backup using sub steps and check later if the problem persists.

    (a) open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click system and Maintenanceand then clicking backup and restore.

    (b) click on Manage space. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (c) to delete older backups of files under that data backup file, click on view backups.

You can then select the backups of files that you want to delete, which will free up disk space. Remove an entry in the list will not affect the other backups. If you think that you don't need one version of your files from a certain backup period, you can delete that backup. We recommend that you always keep the most recent backup.

If the Windows.old folder, the best way to remove it is with disk cleanup.

No, you must start your laptop from the disk. Specify the first condition in the drive, and then restart. You should get a screen with a prompt to hit any key to boot from the cd/dvd. Press the space key and follow the instructions to change the disks as needed.

  • SFC (System File Checker) and using a DVD

I got Windows Home Media 2005 on DVD. I had to reinstall the OS. I want to run SFC (System File Checker) to ensure the OS files are not corrupt from time to time. SFC always calls for a CD, does not recognize my DVD player. How can I check my OS with a DVD files?

Why you think you have corrupted files from time to time?  You specify that you encounter a system problem, but didn't say exactly what it is!  I have hundreds of things file corrupted in my notes.

When the system does not start successfully, exactly what is happening and what are you doing in this regard?

Do you receive messages like that or something different?

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

A chkdsk/r from the XP Recovery Console will usually straighten this out right.

According to what you see, you can also receive a CD bootable XP Recovery Console you can do (no XP media required).

Since the XP Recovery Console, you can run the chkdsk command, generally replace all corrupted files since there are copies more already on your HARD drive in another place and other things.  It depends on what problems you see with this kind of corruption...

I will include the instructions below.

I never tried to slipstream XP Home - and may not try because I think I let someone borrow my CD XP Home and he has never had back.

Here are the integrated installation instructions that usually a link:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/slipstreaming-Windows-XP-to-create-bootable-CD/

It's another good forum for slipstreaming questions (I hang there too).

A few Google searches (for something like xp slipstream) get your other similar instructions.

Once you get it built, if you have enough space HARD drive somewhere, you can just copy it on a HARD drive and then tell XP to find files from the HDD instead of the CD (it's more convenient and faster).

Here are the instructions to make a CD of bootable XP Recovery Console.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD (do not install UniBlue or the Ask Toolbar - never!):

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

  • Is there a way I can back up my entire iMac G5 on a USB key (with the exception of the system files)

I have an old imac running 10.4.11 G5 ppc and I want to get rid of it, but I want everything except the system files and crap that I don't need the backup. I want beck it upwards on a disc of void

You should be able to create a backup on the disk USB 2.0 to your content

a former Mac PPC; the files could be read by applications or made

be opened by apps later (or those who converted to the future, if possible.)

The limits for rotational USB or USB flash drives were related

the inability of the OS X to start the old Macs for these drives. The

the files themselves should be OK to be read from said readers.

You may be sure choose "ignore permissions" as appropriate

on the drives where the old user accounts can stifle access to their content. Or

create a duplicate of the old files on a different drive, convert the need

for a more recent application. You can make a duplicate of the old together

drive with a clone utility. SuperDuper, double or utility disk peut

do large duplicates. Disk utility can make a disk image. Other applications

could be tempted to see if you could save-as or convert a newer version.

    Good luck!

  • Delete the update files?

I want to delete the update files to make more room in my C drive, but I don't know what is the result if I did. Is there anyone can tell me? Thanks in advance!

    Hello Alonda,

Thanks for the response on the answers.microsoft.com forum.

It seems that you are really wanting to get free space on your hard drive.  Certainly understand this importance.  Did you run a disk cleanup?  Do this by => click Start ORB-> computer-> right click on your drive Local (usu. C :) and select properties-> under a general tab, click Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup will usually present your files can be deleted without reprecussions.  Also, most of the files that you can delete Windows putting updates in question the question about WINSXS, get lodged in this folder.  Here is an article of Nice forum describing the WINSXS file a little more away.
