  I recently had my PC repaired (motherboard had to be replaced and Windows XP SP3 was done as new installation).    Everything regarding the functioning of PDF was fine until last week.  Until last week, I was able to open, view, save and print PDF files.  Then for some reason the adobe acrobat program has disappeared.  I spent the last three days trying to download Pro Version 9.0 Adobe for 30 days without result trial membership.   (I informed the company by e-mail that I'm more interested in this product.)  Even if a window pop up it says "s been downloaded.  Also, I was unable to download the free Adobe Reader.   Nothing worked even after contacting Adobe customer for help.  I tried to play with the settings in the properties of Internet Explorer, AOL, etc.   I finally gave up and am looking to buy another software company just so I can open the PDF files.  As I read all these posts it seems Adobe uses its 'customers to beta test of his' new products.  I know it's commonplace in the commercial sector as there are has pressure to get new products and upgrades out over a period of time shorter than the past consumer products.   Comments?

  Unfortunately, you did post on the public forum. They are new and a bit confusing. Certainly a step-down from those that we had a couple of days.

  In any case, try to download the player (if you need only view PDF files) from http://get.adobe.com/reader/.

  The trial of Acrobat is limited in any case. It is only good for 30 days from your original download. Then they want you to buy.

  Foxit has a different PDF Viewer if you can not get player works.

  Jeff, you made me think a little more about it.  I just completely removed Norton security Suite from my computer and the download worked.  I have now reinstalled Norton.  Previously I tried to disable the firewall, but which did not allow the download.  Sorry to you and thank you for evil.

  Only if you select the delivery option "Ship the box to me" during the purchase.

  If you select the delivery option "Download", then you can download the software but without box will be mailed. You will then need to make your own backup.

  You can download the 30 day free trial and who activate with your serial number while you wait for the box to arrive.

  I get CAD drawings converted to PDF format on a regular basis to clients using various CAD software systems.  Almost always, the PDF retains the layers created in the CAD document.  Preserving layers significantly slows down the loading time of the PDF and increases the file size as well in my opinion.  If the layers are not selectable or in a list, I can see load a (ie. topo, plans floor, title, block, etc.) on each page of the PDF file.  Does anyone know how to remove the overlay effect?  I heard the PDF file must be "crushed" or perhaps the CAD software is export to PDF there is a parameter that would flatten the layers.  However, I have not the possibility on my PDF software to flatten, and my architects/clients use different CAD software systems, so I don't know how to educate to flatten documents.

  You can flatten the pdf using Acrobat, here's how: choose Tools > print > Overview of flattening.
