I want to upgrade to win 7 XP he. I have 2 HD to the computer, one running XP and the 2nd running w2000.

Question: Can I use the w2000 HD to install win 7, so clean all that HD and leaving the HD only XP? Or can I install win7 on XP HD, cleaning this one out, erasing the w2000 OS in the another HD, but leaving all applications and only data?

Hi Dsears,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft answers Forum.

You can install windows7 in one of the hard drives, as long as you need.

Windows 7 minimum hardware requirements:

  1. 1 GHz 32 - bit or 64-bit processor
  2. 1 GB RAM for 32-bit Windows 7 OR 2 GB of RAM for Windows 7 64-bit
  3. 16 GB available disk space 32-bit Windows 7 OR 20 GB for 64-bit Windows 7
  4. Supported graphics DirectX 9 with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)
  5. DVD-R/W drive
  6. Internet access or phone to activate Windows 7.

Thank you best regards &,.

I have an installed two years with Win 8.1 old Acer predator. I want to upgrade to Win 10, but I'm concerned about what will happen if I get a hard drive at some point failure. Should I pay for another set of recovery disks? Or will I have to install Win 8 of the discs I have, then move to 8.1, and then to win 10?

If your HARD drive dies, you can use your recovery disk windows 8 and then switch to 10 without going through 8.1

    but...

I can suggest an easy way.

You can create an image just system after the upgrade to windows 10, have your drivers updated to version 10 of windows and make sure that your system is stable.

After that, with the windows tool, you can create the system image on DVD or external HARD drive and use it to re - install your copy of windows 10 as you just improved.

    http://www.CNET.com/how-to/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-Windows-10/

to use an image from windows system, you need a windows bootable 10 installation media but it's easy to get from microsoft:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows10

Download the .iso file and burn it to a DVD.

then, at the end, you start from the DVD and choose repair your PC and select to load the image of the system.

  • I want to upgrade to win 7

    Separated from this thread.

my vista machine won't allow new IE or Chrome.  Web sites works only with IE 9

I want to upgrade to win 7.  (impossible to go to win 10).  HP does not provide win 7 drivers for my computer.   expert HP Forum hp claims that vista drivers work with win 7.   Suggested to download all the drivers on a jump drive ahead so they can be installed manually if there is a problem... Does seem legitimate?

Chrome version 49.0.2623.112 is recent and taken in charge. I install and use it until you can find another solution.

Windows Vista end of support is April 2017, then you should really consider upgrading to Windows 7. Both Vista and Windows 7 share the same driver model. Windows Vista (version 6.0), Windows 7 (version 6.1), so you should be able to use Windows Vista drivers without problem.

    Force restart your iPhone.

Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

And then tap settings > general > software update

If this does not help, make sure that your Mac running the latest version of iTunes.

You can do this by clicking on your top  Apple left of your screen.

In the drop-down list, click: App Store

After the opening of the App Store, select updates in the upper part of the menu of the window of the App Store.

  • HP m9040n want to upgrade to win 7 and ssd. no problem to get bios maybe

looking to upgrade. something I need to worry

    Hello

Before you do anything, remember that you have a set of HP recovery disks in case you would have to withdraw.  Back up your data on an external support. An external USB hard drive would be my choice.

Dobios updatewhile you're still under VISTA.

Run these two utilities. .    Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.   Test for 64-bit hardware  Look at the results of the analysis of 64-bit with Upgrade Advisor.

Update your memory on VISTA.  Then, run this utility to make sure that the memory is good.  Download memtest86 iso file and burn it to disk using the Imgburn.

If you upgrade the memory beyond 4 GB, then you need Windows 7 64 bit to take advantage of the extra memory. None of the HP added value will be offered under Windows 7 64-bit you will need to do a clean install.

Now, do a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. Apply all updates including service pack 1.  You may need to restart and run the update of Windows process several times to get everything updated.

Now, install all the programs you need and updates for them.

Look over the size of the C partition to perhaps determine the size of the SSD to buy it. I would consider an SSD that is greater than the space used on the C 20 GB partition, but it's your decision to make on the amount of free space to store for updates and future expansion.  Depending on your needs, a 60-80 GB SSD may be enough.

Looking for an SSD that meets your needs of space and comes with a migration kit (software plus one sata cable USB). If you have an empty hard drive Bay so your will need a 2.5 "to 3.5" disk media adapters and sata data cable. If you do not have a Bay hard drive empty then use an empty optical Bay. In this case, you will need a 2.5 "to 5.25" Bay adapter brackets and a sata data cable.

Open your PC and inspect cables power the hard drive Bay. Do you see a spare power connector?  If you do not have a hard drive Bay empty then use and empty optical drive Bay.  Looking for a replacement power adapter. If a sata power connector is not available but a molex adapter 4 pin is then you will need to purchase a power adapter to manage the molex connector to a sata power connector.

Before mounting the SSD inside your PC, use the migration kit and the process to the image of your hard drive Windows 7 overall of the SSD. You need only to images in the mbr record, SYSTEM and C partitions.  If this process is successful then mount the SSD inside your PC and connect the power and sata data cables.  Start now and make sure that Windows recognizes the new sata SSD. If it's good then boot into the bios and change the boot order to reflect the SSD as the first device to boot from the hard drive and save the settings.

If your PC starts now with the SSD then smile. You must disable defragmentation for the C partition because it is not necessary.  Your original hard drive is still intact, so you can use it to store the data a possibly an emergency boot disk if something goes wrong with the SSD or Windows 7 on SSD.

I am a practitioner of the income tax. I have a small office with 2-3 PCs in a local network. I installed win XP in there. Now, I want to upgrade to win 8. What version of win 8 should I buy? Do I have to renew the license of win 8 each year?

You will be able to create a LAN (Local Area Network) connection on the computer of Windows 8. You can read the articles for more information:

  • You want to upgrade 64-bit but have old obsolete programs, I don't want to lose?

I'm running Win 7 32 bit and you want to upgrade to win 7 64 bit. I know that to do this I have to do a clean install. But I have many older programs, that I always use. Many of the original disc have been lost in a fire a couple of years. And most of my old programs is not yet supported more.

My only option I see is upgraded and drop them. Or build an another desktop computer and start over and keep my old computer for programs.

But I was wondering, I could replace my hard drive with a new one, save the original hard drive, load win 7 64 bit on the new hard drive. can implement a virtual machine and run older 32-bit version on it?

I'm about to bite the bullet and go, leaving my old programs behind, but I always use and I paid a lot of money for them (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and so on.

Is there any hope, or should I spend in the future and leave the past behind?

If your programs are important to you, I suggest that stick you with Windows 7 32 bit, especially if they work very well and accomplish all tasks you need to do.

You could do a P2V and migrate your installation of Windows 32 bit to a Virtual Machine, but the process is time consuming and does not guarantee stability.

Its best you have a new machine with Windows 7 64-bit configuration and gradually migrate your applications and workflows over time.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A300D-161 - I want to upgrade the RAM to 4 GB

Hello, I want to upgrade my RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB.

The laptop box, said the other: 2 GB DDR2 800 Mhz, but when I check the CPU - Z it says 400 Mhz

    http://img140.imageshack.us/i/cpuz1.PNG/
    http://img267.imageshack.us/i/cpuz2.PNG/

The website of toshiba says also 800 Mhz, so wich 1 I need to buy?
    1 x 2 GB DDR2 - 400 Mhz
    or
    2 x 2 GB DDR2 - 800 Mhz

Also, I wonder when I switch to 4 GB, the amount of memory will be dedicated to my video card?

    Thank you

    Hello

CPU - Z is definitely wrong! Satellite Pro A300D-161 needs DDR2-800 MHz to upgrade according to the specs on the Toshiba site.
If the information on the laptop box is correct.

More video RAM will be assigned automatically and with 4 GB of RAM you will get more memory video too.

    Good bye

Yes, you can use the same license key for re - install the version of media center and Win8 x64bit

You will need to back up all your data on external media before you install it.
  • I want to upgrade to El Capitan, but might want to back Lion

I am running Lion and thinking about upgrading to El Capitan.  However, I have some graphics programs (which I need for work) and I fear that they can not working correctly after I upgraded (what happened in the past).  And I don't have the money to upgrade all software.

What is the best way to make them after I've upgraded, can I return to Lion if I need to (if my programs no longer work)?  A bit nervous about switching where I can't go back.  Or am I just worrying about nothing?

Use a program such as disk utility or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone Lion on an external drive or install El Capitan on this disc.

  • I want to upgrade to windows 98 Second edition to xp eventually win 7 need to know the steps

have old desktop with win 98 2nd edition can some give me the steps to upgade to xp sp3 please

    Hello:

I can bet safely that Windows 7 does not work on an old PC with Windows 98.

In order to upgrade to Windows XP, you must obtain a disc to upgrade program XP Home which are no longer available. You need to check out a place like eBay and see if you can get a new version of XP Home updated seal.

Do not buy a used one, or you may have problems to activate the software.
