I would like to replace small 'C' drive with the new more

Hello
My name is Erik and have the following question.
I'm out of space on my hard drive of 40 g.  He is the master, and where I have windows XP installed among other things.  I have a disc of hd 650G I want to make the main drive (master), then use the 40g as a slave or secondary disk.  How can I transfer the bootfiles and the operating system, and additional programs from the current 'C' drive to the new drive.  It is possible for me to install the new drive as a slave if that helps...
Thanks, Erik

Download install Acronis TI of trial and clone the drive, make sure that you follow the instructions to stop immediately the clone is complete, then make the drive over the master, unplug the old C drive, restart, and then if necessary reconnect old C as a slave.

Or use the tool available on most car manufacturers sites, read the instructions

  • Installed new HARD drive with the new installation of XP, old HDD ShowAs saw as the active partition, how to change this?

I installed a new HARD drive with a new installation of Windows XP Edition family. I want to keep the old HDD and reformat the drive, but I can't because the second HDD is listed as active in the management of the computer. Why? It's not the drive that contains the operating system (Windows XP) that is initialized from.  I put the BIOS such that the new HARD drive is the boot drive. The old HDD has Windows XP on it, but isn't the startup disk. I just don't understand.
If only the new HARD drive is installed, the computer management doesn't show that it or any other of its partitions are the active partition (C drive is listed as the system partition, of course).

How can I get an active partition and no active partition when the new HARD drive is installed on a HARD drive that is not the boot drive, when I have two hard drives installed?

In case it is necessary, the new HARD drive is a SATA and the old HARD drive is IDE with the cavaliers as a slave.

The system partition is the Active partition. The system volume contains the system files needed to start Windows, Windows XP, these system files are:

    NTLDR
    Boot.ini
    NTDETECT.COM
Ntbootdd.sys (present/used only with older SCSI controllers)

Windows files are not necessarily on the system volume, they can reside on another volume, when on a different volume this volume holding Windows files is called the boot volume.

When you install Windows on a computer, playing a mixture of IDE and SATA setup discs tends to favor with IDE drives on SATA drives and tends to use the IDE drive to house the system partition, (even if Windows is installed on a different drive).

Running the command SYSTEM SET at a command prompt may shed some light on the problem...

  • Replacability SSD/hard DRIVE on the new Y400/Y500 series

Hi forum, I know laptops are not yet published, but I wonder about their hardware configurations.

I am running a Y560p with Self installed 64 GB msata WSSD, and I noticed that the new Y500 Y400 will have of the WSSD of 16 GB. I wonder: 1. why these small capacity and 2. will it be possible to replace the standard mssd with a WSSD of 64/128 GB, and then use that drive as start/program drive the HDrive has no need go up during the use of the battery.

If the HD will work with DSS, all energy savings are cancelled and is one of the few things that stop me from buying a Y400 at the time wherever he is released, it has estimated 3 HOURS of battery LIFE? In my view, it could certainly be expanded through base being installed on msata programs (web browser, office, etc.).

    Thank you!

Yes, I think so. In other laptops with preinstalled msata ssd, ssd is first of smaller size and is used for the cache.

  • Pavilion dv6t-2000: replacing old HARD disk with the new SDS and loading the OS with 1 & 2 recovery discs fails

I just successfully replace the SSD, exchanging an old 250 GB HDD with a new 250 GB HARD drive.

I started with success, inserted the disc of recovery by the instructions on the screen. Disc 1 and rendered, it succeeded.  When you are prompted, load disc 2, which was also successful.  When asked, in charge of the "application and driver recovery CD" and continued.

At this point the computer restarted several times, as he said it would be completion of installation of all elements.  Then he came with a message that says: the recovery attempt failed. Select one of the following buttons.

  • GE force 314.22 video driver with the new office issue

I bought my desire Phoenix h9-1340 t nine at HP in January.  A month and a half ago, I've updated the video driver from Nvidia Web site and the video card no longer works correctly.  I contacted the technical support.  They had me turn off all my Windows drivers and had run me the computer in selective startup.  The video card, then worked, and they said that the problem has been resolved.  I told them that this doesn't seem to be a solution for me, so they sent me a new video card.  That has not fixed the problem.  I was told to return the pc to HP for a repair.  I just returned it today and I saw that the only thing they did was to replace the video card again.  I contacted HP and they said that the problem was with Nvidia driver and told me to only update the video driver through HP.  I recorded with Nvidia and posted my problem.  The reaction was unanimous and the issue lied with the configuration with my computer not driver Nvidia.  Could someone please help me with this problem?

    Hello new pinktoe.

If using Selective startup allowed pilots to work properly then there must be something in this list cause you problems.  You need to determine what exactly is causing the problem.  I would suggest trying the following.

    1. Press Windows + X key combination.
    2. Select 'run '.
    3. Type "msconfig" and press ENTER.
    4. Start without services or startup items using Selective startup.  However, only select one.
    5. Save the changes and reboot the laptop.
    6. If the problem persists, return to msconfig and reactivate the disabled item.  Disable the other element, save your changes and restart again to verify that the question doesn't disappear indeed with this option.

If the problem disappears when disable services that you will want to try the following.

    1. Select the Services tab.
    2. Check the box "hide all Microsoft services" at the bottom left.
    3. Disable all services.
    4. Re-enable the first services of 5-10, save the changes and restart the computer.
    5. If the problem returns then you know that this is one of these services and you can always disable the services activated until you find the culprit.
    6. Repeat if necessary until the offender is found.
    7. Display the result.

If the problem disappears to disable startup items, you will need to repeat the same process.

Once you determine what item (s) is causing the issue make sure to display the result.

    Nice day!

  • Satellite C660-28 d - problem "Load driver" with the new HARD drive

    I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-28 t.

The hard drive has failed. I called Toshiba Support who send me a replacement.

However in the meantime I was going to put in my spare hard drive and do a fresh install of another operating system that I have a spare for (Win 7) key.

However, I can't past the screen "Loading Drivers" as the laptop came with driver disks.
I can't find the drivers on the Toshiba site (I tried some drivers intel which I thought were good, but he says they were not signed and all comes down to the loading screen drivers).

I have made the recovery discs, but obviously can not use them on the new hard drive as it doesn't have the recovery partition.

Any ideas on where I can get the proper drivers from?

    Thank you

    > I made the recovery discs, but obviously can not use them on the new hard drive as it doesn't have the recovery partition.

If you have a recovery disk using Toshiba preinstalled recovery media creator tool, you just have to boot from that disk to begin the installation.

First of all, are we on track to replace existing hosts?

Second, what are the next steps we would take?

We have read the various messages that seem to follow the steps below, but want to ensure that our incense are applied correctly, we don't miss any major or minor measures, for iSCSI, reusing names existing ESXi hosts and IPs or something else causing the replacement to fail.

    1. the vMotion VMs to host existing to another host

    2. remove the existing host to vCenter

    3. stop the existing host

  • Installation of Win XP on a new hard drive with the new motherboard

I have currently baught a new motherboard and hard drive.  I tried to load XP on a new 250 GB Western Digital SATA 2.0.  When you run the Windows Setup program formats the hard disk to NTFS and then said the system will restart and launch the installation.  Upon reboot, new XP starts the Setup program and wants to format the drive again.  It shows her format partition and when I go to format again once it is said that in doing so, I would be deleting files from windows that have already been installed on the system.  Why does this happen?

Set the BIOS for SATA "Native IDE" then I deleted the partition.  RELOADED windows and the problem has been resolved.  Thanks for the help.

  • Pavilion dv6600ev: I would like to replace the HARD drive and the RAM in my HP laptop. I want to check compatibility

Hello guys. I would like to replace the HARD drive and the RAM in my HP laptop. I would check the compatibility. For the momemt, I have 2 x 512 MB of RAM and a 160 GB HARD drive. Does anyone know the type of RAM (DDR1 or DDR2 most) and the accepted maximum capacity. Also the SATA port is a SATA I? Besides, I'm going to change the operating system (preferably in Win 7) so is there a driver?

You can install DDR2-800 modules and they are the most widely available at this point, but the memory will run at 667 mhz speed.

If it's 'the Answer' please click on 'Accept as Solution' to help others find it.

  • I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp.

I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp. Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?  I would that all is the same except the size of your hard drive will be increased.

Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?

    Yes.

You use the disk cloning software.  In some cases, a new player may even be bundled with software that will do this for you.

Unless your laptop has a second drive Bay (most don't), you will also need an external hard drive enclosure.  As a general rule, these connect via the USB port, although if your laptop has a connector FireWire or eSATA you can also use these interfaces.

You must select your external enclosure based on 3 criteria: the type of connection to the laptop. the physical size of the disc (2 1/2 inches for computer laptop drives); and player interface (determined by the connection of the internal drive of your laptop). For example only (no recommendation), if you wanted an enclosure for a 2.5 IDE drive "which connects using USB 2.0, Newegg has 17 products

The (slightly) more expensive items among the software, you will need.  For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602 this particular House will work with SATA or IDE drives.

If you buy an external enclosure that doesn't include cloning software, the software may be available for free from the manufacturer of the new 320 GB drive (e.g., http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • I would like to replace my system disk.  Have a Mac Pro 2010, 4 drive bays

My system disk is full and I can't put more on it 320.  It is a Mac Pro 2010, with 4-Bay.  I could put a larger capacity drive in one of the other berries, but I don't know how to transfer the info on the old drive to the new.  If I use Migration Asst, it will keep the permissions for music software, etc.?

Also, I have a Mac Pro 2010 and moved my system from one disk to another. In my case, I moved from 10.7.5 on a drive of 1 GB to 1 Bay for a 512 GB SSD on a map of drive SATA PCIe 2.0 6-Gb/s.

There are probably several ways to do what you think. However, as I have not used the Apple Migration Assistant personally, I don't think I can answer your question with absolute certainty if it will keep your permissions for music software and so will leave it to someone else who has experience with its use.

But I can gives you two ways that may be useful: One is if you already want to back up your system using Apple Time Machine drive, you can restore the backup to a new larger drive. The other would be to buy a program to copy such as SuperDuper! ($28) ou Carbon Copy clone ($40) and they can clone your drive system on a new drive. I've built a number of backup copies (10.7.5, 10.8, 10.10) for different purposes (development, experimentation, downsizing to re - purpose a 1 or 2 GB drive for something else...) With a Mac Pro and 4 Bay, you have a lot of flexibility.

    Hope that helps.

I would like to restore my passwords saved (only the passwords, any profile) to my laptop. Available, I have only a backup of my previous C: drive.

    Claudia,
    You must do the following:

    • Locate the backup of your previous profile. See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile - you will need to manually adjust the location of your backup, and shortcuts like %APPDATA%\microsoft\windows\sendto do not work (on Vista/7, %APPDATA%\microsoft\windows\sendto is defined as \AppData\Roaming C:\Users\username)
    • Locate your new profile. See above, but here you can use the help-> troubleshooting information button
    • Copy the following files from the old profile to the new profile with Firefox closed: signons3.txt, signons.sqlite
