iCloud Drive creation of duplicates in the records of the App?

I always keep all my important files to Dropbox so I can easily access it on my iMac or MacBook Pro. I decided to give iCloud drive a test drive and moved some of the folders in there because I love the idea of working completely within the Apple ecosystem. For example, I have a folder named "Taxes" that contains my current tax information and documents, Pages, and Numbers.

The first thing that I noticed that whenever I open one of these documents, that a duplicate file is created as if by magic into a new Apple branded folder for the appropriate Application. It seems to me that this new file appear as if by magic is an exact duplicate of my original. It seems not even to be an alias, but exactly the same file that seems very redundant. A quick experiment illustrates both of these documents in double any changes made to one instantly in the other.

Since this is my first experience with iCloud drive I must be missing something because I can't get my head around the idea of storing two identical files, whenever I open a document in TextEdit, Pages, numbers, etc.. I realize the size of most of the documents, I'm not fat, but obviously they do not count as storage times two.

I guess I don't know even what questions to ask here that can explain why everytime I open a file in the original file a duplicate is created in Apple records.

They are not duplicates, they are automatic aliases.

Pretty cool huh.

  • iCloud Drive on my mac stops the synchronization of non-standard files

In my iCloud account, I created two folders (individuals and businesses) in addition to standard folders.  Standards are iMovie, Keynote, Numbers, etc.  On my MacBook Pro (OSX Yosemite V10.10.5), these non-standard files synchronizes any more.

A solution is to disable iCloud drive, and then restart, but the problem is recurring.  In addition, it is a lot of your time, because whenever I turn it on, it deletes all of my computer and you should download again on restart.

How can I copy the folder my documents in my iCloud drive and then I sync the two after that?

You can simply drag in iCloud reader, but I pass and move documents in their files app instead. It will probably take a while to download all documents.

It is not a way to sync without some third party software that synchronizes folders, or learn how to use rsync in the Terminal.

Instead of synchronization, simply use the iCloud drive in the 'Documents' folder after you move the files.

Yes, according to iCloud Drive FAQ - Apple Support:

You cannot use iCloud Drive on your devices until you update your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to the latest version of iOSand your Mac to the latest version of Mac OS X. If you already upgraded and you need to use a device that does not support iCloud by car, you can still work on your documents locally, but they will not be aware of the documents on your devices up to date, or on iCloud.com.

In addition, the system requirements for iCloud - Apple Support should be useful.

  • iCloud drive do not download on the new iMac

I had to disconnect my iCloud account for a problem of credentials. Specialists apple has assured me that I loose any data even if all files have been removed from my computer (about 40 GB)...

I reconnected my iCloud account but no files were downloaded on my computer except the emails I had stored there - they all returned (about 2 GB)

The iCloud in the FINDER directory simply displays the directory of Pages which I don't use.

iCloud.com shows that all my files are on the server cloud.

I do not want to disconnect and because all e-mail will be back in deleted and restored once again.

I want that my files on my iMac.

    Someone at - it suggestions?

Enable/disable just the iCloud car works from the system/iCloud preferences window.

That will not affect e-mail messages or other items.

  • Why finder hide Documents and office files in the home directory of the user by activating iCloud drive? What about the behavior of Time Machine backup or third-party applications?

I'm under MacOS Sierra. I am connected to my iCloud account. I activated the option Desktop and Documents, but I did NOT activate the option optimize Mac storage, because I wanted to make sure that all my files would be available locally, just in case, I would need to work without an internet connection.

-J' noticed there now a menu iCloud in my sidebar in the Finder, with links to Documents and desktop.

-J' also noticed that Documents is no longer presented in my favorites in my side bar of the Finder.

-This last suggests that files saved in 'Documents' are not saved more on my HD... but only in iCloud, which isn't what I want.

-Then, sailing in the Finder Macintosh HD/users / 'My account' /, I noticed that my Documents and desktop folders are more visible, as if these files are not saved in my home folder most. Which raises the question: where are My Documents and files on my HD, so they are still?

-Using a shell session in the terminal and again navigate to/Users / 'My account' /, I noticed that my Documents and desktop folders are still there. Which suggest that records and records of office reside actually still in my home folder under users, but Finder actually hide it and present them as being stored in iCloud only disc. It's very confusing.

    This raises several questions:

-In the first place, why Apple hide Documents and office files in the directory? Why not view these folders in iCloud and directory?

-Whence the iCloud folder or drive, reside actually on my hard drive?

-What time Machine. Is it still back up my document files and folders?

-What games third-party app mirroring backup of My Documents files and folders? They still work properly? (I use Livedrive backup and Sugarsync for files mirrored across several macs).

-How can I understand that Apple is doing with my folders and files? Some users might be happy with the iCloud drive concept, without worrying about how it works, but I don't take chances, and I want to keep a good understanding about the functioning of my system.

Could someone explain what is exactly happening?

With office and selected Documents, access to these files are now in the iCloud Drive, not in your home folder.

My guess would be that they do not appear in your file because it would be confusing for many people to make them in two places.

If you want in the Favorites, open iCloud Drive and drag them in the sidebar here.

All about iCloud drive has been saved on your Mac. With the exception of the office and the Documents, they are in ~/Library/Mobile Documents. However, if you choose optimized storage, older documents are removed from your Mac. I don't know what is "old".

~/Documents and ~/desktop have new metadata indicating probably Finder does not display them in a Finder window, only in iCloud drive. They are not hidden in one of the normal methods of unix.

I have not tested Time Machine or any other backup program. The folder still exist in your directory home, and they still have all the files, I don't think that changes anything.

  • How to save the document iWork on iCloud drive?

I have 4 files in my player to iCloud.  When I create a new document in Pages and save it in the folder of chemistry, I noticed that the Pages also saves a copy in the Pages folder.  So I find myself with two copies of the document.  The same thing happens with Numbers and Keynote.

Is there a way to save the Pages (and Numbers and Keynote) documents to an iCloud specified by the user folder without copy also end up in the related app?  THX

When you save Pages documents in iCloud drive, but not in the Pages folder, it will create an alias in the Pages folder pointing to the active page document that you saved in your folder of chemistry. These aliases will be a small vertical arrow under the icon, accompanied by text stating "in iCloud drive." You can right-click on the alias and choose the menu option Show Original.

The cure is to make your records custom inside the respective iCloud drive: Pages, Numbers and Keynote primary records. These applications have an abbreviation save default Panel. On the right of the Save As the Committee Save: field, you will see a small box with an angle down in it. Click on this button, it will expand your panel Save/Save as and a button new folder will appear on the bottom.

You select iCloud drive from the Favorites panel column Pages save and then browse the Pages main, numbers, and Keynote files. This is where you click on the button new folder, which will initially show no icons it contains until you save the document. No alias is generated. For existing records outside the above-mentioned applications, you could drag and drop the folder in the respective Pages, numbers and Keynote primary records, and then you can delete the (single) alias files.

  • El Capitan iCloud drive failure complete the transfer of files on disc from Macbook to iCloud drive

    Product

MacBook Air. 120 GB with 15 GB of free disk space.

Connected to the internet via WIFI from Apple Timecapsule, here through to VDSL 40 MB/s in download, 10 MB/s in upload.

    Operating system

    El Capitan 10.11.06

Describe the problem and include details on what seems to make it.

The Macbook was working a little slowly. It seemed a good idea to transfer files to the player to iCloud from various places on the Macbook. I created a folder, XXX, within the iCloud drive. I did drag elements of 2200 (displaced), approximately 1.8 GB total for the XXX folder. The files successfully on 15 minutes, no files in the source folder. Disk utility showed that I had lost free disk space, to about 14 GB on the Macbook.

Use the Finder to open the iCloud drive showed two points of interest:

    • Circle of pie next to iCloud Drive. The pie chart had a white game, with most of the gray.
    • At the bottom of the window in the Finder to iCloud drive notification: 8 items, 15 GB available, download 2 235 elements (1.84 GB 1.94 GB).

Since the transition to iCloud Drive 18 hours it is, nothing good is felt. Notification of message like above remain unchanged.

Accessing the iCloud drive through another computer, using iCloud.com on behalf of the Watch:

    • 79 items in the folder XXX (when there should be a more another 2000 points)
    • No element contain subfolders of the folder XXX
    • 4.54 GB available

    Already tried troubleshooting steps

    • Rebooted computer MacBook twice
    • Patiently waited all night for computer complete the download sync on iDrive
    • Use disk utility to repair disk

    No temporary miracle identified.

    iCloud Drive no local sync

The main solution, apparently, is "Call Apple Support". I note that there are several recent complaints in the same direction. Maybe something changed with the implementation of iCloud Drive in August 2016?

  • Files that are opened in a bound iCloud application are instantly copied to the application folder in iCloud.

When I open a file in any folder in the finder, in an application that is linked to iCloud, i.e. 'Expert PDF' or 'Preview', I opened, the file will be copied to the application folder instantly. This only happens on Mac.

On Mac, the file appears in the folder something like a shortened (as in the picture):

If I open the mobile application (i.e. PDF Expert) there is a copy of the file in the application folder.

I first thought that would happen only with Expert PDF, but I discovered that it happens with any application that is enabled in the settings of the iCloud drive. It's really annoying to remove them, every time that you open the. That this feature was actually supposed to do, is create a folder in iCloud drive that is assigned to the application on any device to iCloud.

Maybe someone knows how to turn it off, or maybe it's just a bug.

It looks like a feature and not a bug.

iCloud is not really duplicate files in the files collection of application.  It looks like a file duplicate of the same size as the original, that you have opened, but iCloud is record storage by creating symbolic links. .

I checked several of apparent duplicates in the Terminal, and if I list the file with the Terminal command

    LS - li somefileoniclouddrive

I see that the inodes are identical to the original and the duplicate.  So no additional storage is required.

  • Container of notes in iCloud drive deleted by mistake

After many sync problems with Notes, I decided to start from scratch. I backed up all the notes on my Mac, disconnected all iCloud drive and then removed from the Notes container in stock to manage devices. It was clearly a mistake - I realize now I should have deleted the data inside of the container. Initially, I imagined that when I went on iCloud sync on one of the devices (Mac, for example) the container should be recreated automatically. Of course, it was not. Mac and iPhone are both showing some iCloud Notes - I entered the data from different test on both devices - and sync turns ball is encouraging. But no synchronization takes place and no container in managing storage.

I checked Time Machine to see if I could find the container but the contents of the iCloud drive seems to not be recorded (unless I'm missing something or do not wait long enough).

So I need to recreate the container, if possible. Is it possible to do it without having to reinstall OS 10.11.6?

I'm not sure I know what notes, your average container. I have no record of notes in iCloud drive or system preferences > iCloud > manage, I don't see where else you would mean that if you were opening the hidden locations.

I have a computer at work that is connected to duplicate the mapped drives. We discovered a network path error trying to make links in Acrobat. The computer record showed all the correct network paths. When I used the command net 'use' in cmd it showed the mapped drives duplicate without assigned letters that did not appear in the GUI. Here is an example (leaving most of the names in car for security reasons). Both drives below are duplicates of the P: drive. I deleted these duplicates in the cmd window, but it happened again and we cannot understand it. Can someone tell me why?

  • Backup files to iCloud drive

I ran out of space on my MacBook Pro (7.28 GB from 250 GB), and to solve my problem of storage, I leaned in iCloud drive.

My question is if I save a file in iCloud drive does also save on the hard drive of the device that I save on?

I did one month trial with iCould Drive 50 GB, but I do not see clear up any space... I do something wrong?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Yes, if you add files to iCloud by car they are stored on your hard drive, as a work around, you can disable iCloud drive and access it through your web browser to iCloud.com > iCloud Drive, it does not use your hard drive.
