iDRAC 5 access on PE R900

PE R900. Latest firmware BIOS/BMC. I only have 5 Express iDRAC. I'm having all sorts of fun problems with it.

(1) that this or that doesn't have a web interface? I heard that he made, and that is not. I am looking for clarification.

(2) that I should or should I not be able to SSH/Telnet to it? Once, again, for clarification.

Questions: Is the express, it is shared with the on-board. The NETWORK card is plugged into my switch, gets a connection and has a static IP address defined. I am running MS Server R2 2012, and I put explicitly that the adapter is disabled to avoid possible conflicts. I am able to ping the DRAC of any computer on my LAN. However, this is all I get. No HTTP/HTTPS/SSH/Telnet. I've never used before IPMI, so I'm not sure of how to check on that. I ran nmap on it from several computers, using the - Pn to force it to assume the host is up, and he doesn't find anything even resembling an open port. Run RACADM locally produced:

ERROR: RACADM cannot process the requested subcommand because there is no
local configuration of RAC to contact.

OSA of Dell is able to communicate with the system very well, and I am able to change the settings for remote access. I checked, and they do in fact within the parameters of the RA (CTRL-E to start).

I have updated my BMC hardware to the latest version in the middle of the troubleshooting session. Both before and after, the RA package fails to immeditaely with "this configuration is not supported."

I was losing my mind a bit. Any help is appreciated, girls and boys.

TIA,

Grobe

Grobeoba,

On the R900 server would be just a Drac 5, at the time where the outputs 10th generations does not specify us a difference Express and enterprise. The drac 5 has a web interface. It would be https://ip assigned to drac, from there, you should see a login. You should be able to SSH to the drac, as long as port 22 is open.

One thing to check is that the server did the Drac 5 installed. When the server starts, the prompt CTRL-E, you see if poster for the BMC and Drac, the logic is shared. So you can get the CTRL-E interface without having the drac. When you access the CTRL-E interface you see just skirting Mgmt controller review and review of FW primary Backplane listed in the center of the page, or Remote Access Controller review figure as well? If the remote is not listed then the Drac is not present. Another way to see if it installed is to look inside.

On this expansion riser card.

Do you see this card installed and wired? -

If this is not the case, the Drac card is not actually installed.

If the Drac is present at the BMC update you want to update the Drac as well.

Here are the 2 updates

BMC - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=TNK5X&fileId=3089953544&osCode=W12R2&productCode=poweredge-r900&languageCode=EN&categoryId=ES

DRAC 5 - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-r900?driverId=D8GP9 & osCode = RH60 & starts = 3009896401 & languageCode = IN

Let me know what you find.

  • Which network interface is linked to a 1000th PowerEdge iDRAC?

I have a PowerEdge server 1000th with a bunch of blades plugged and there also * six * M6220 ethernet passes over it.

I have configured each server so that it has a separate IP address of each switch of the following subnets:

    A1 - Public IPs (111.222.333 *, for example)

    A2 - private IP address (* 192.168.10)

    B1 - private IP address (* 192.168.20)

    B2 - private IP address (* 192.168.30)

    C1 - private IP address (* 192.168.40)

    C2 - private IP address (* 192.168.50)

Each server can ping any other server on any B B six IP addresses (so that they can all 'see' each other on all interfaces of contactors.

In addition, the CMC interface has a public IP address, and it is connected to the A1 (the public IP switch) switch.

Now, when I want to use the interface of the iDRAC (for access, for example, the console to one of the servers), it works * fine * (which means that I can't the user a browser on one blade to access the console of the iDRAC of any * other * blade) if I attribute public IP to the iDRAC interfaces. However, if I assign an address from any of the * private * subnets (because my public IP is rare), I'm not able to reach the iDRAC console.

IDRAC interfaces are only related to A1 or something, or is there a reason why I shouldn't be able to reach them through other switches?

So it seems that the iDRAC facilities use the physical interface on the CMC, not on any of the modules A1 - C2 network. Although this interface was connected to our network public IP (with our A1 network interface), I was able to avoid public IP with our iDRAC interfaces by issuing IP aliases private A1 interfaces on our blades.

  • PowerEdge r.620 - grateful to network interface "default" (iDRAC vs NIC)

    Hi all

I'm a tech network new-to-the-industry assigned to a r.620 server in a test environment. I'm working on a project for PlanetLab , and I'm trying to figure out how to put this server online. I understand that it sounds like a question for the Support of PL, but we were confused and at this time, I try to get help or ideas, I can try, in addition to working with the support of PL.

As part of the installation, I have a bootable CD with a custom Linux kernel. When it is started from the CD, the server must initialize the network connections and then contact the central servers of PL and install things. However, I never managed to cross the network initialization.

The server has a license of the company. I assigned a public IP address to the iDRAC port, and nothing is connected to one of the ethernet port. This is the dedicated mode. IDRAC is accessed remotely, and a test OS shows that I am able to make connections from the server - that is to say nothing of all the material is defective or incorrectly configured.

The error I got was "there is no device eth0, most likely this CD does not support your hardware."

    What I've tried so far:

    • Adding a tag to say the CD get em1 instead of eth0. I get the same message, "em1 device does not exist...". »
    • Adding a tag to say the CD to get the MAC address of iDRAC.
    • Changing from dedicated to Shared mode and selecting LOM1 as the interface active (with a cable connected to work).
    • Adding a tag to say the CD to get the MAC address of LOM1 port.

The error message remains the same. A test, I tried to use the CD to start on some other Dell desktop computers (I don't note the model numbers), and this time the CD recognizes eth0 on these machines (running Windows 7 Enterprise, although it shouldn't matter because the OS was not yet started again).

So there's something about how iDRAC vs NICs works. Beyond understanding fundamental iDRAC is a controller separated with its own processor to network card, etc, I'm new on the DRAC technology.

Unfortunately, I cannot understand what it and am running out of ideas. At this point, I would appreciate greatly any ideas I can try to get the CD to recognize the DRAC NIC. Or even one of the 4 ports.

    Thanks a lot for reading.

If I add another ordinary of the compatible server (not a NDC) NIC card, the lifecycle controller will be able to detect the new card?

I don't understand why you care about the iDRAC and LCC with your custom installation of the operating system. You can use the iDRAC to mount your image of the operating system, but all this should have nothing to do with iDRAC or LCC.

Mount your ISO using the iDRAC and boot from it. Once it is initialized from your ISO, it's no different than booting from a DVD/CD. If it does not detect the network card, then the question is probably a driver problem with your OS support.

I don't think that this issue has nothing to do with the material. It's probably a problem with the driver on your support of OS or the installation script. I suggest you to start from your installation media to see if it detects the NIC correctly. This should be a good starting point to determine if you need to add additional drivers to the media or make changes to your script to make the installation work.

    Thank you

  • IDrac access attached server monitor/keyboard without having to reboot

    Hello

I have connected a keyboard and a screen to a R730xd server and would like to access iDrac. However, I see the login prompt of the OS installed.

I have found no way to switch to the iDrac without rebooting. I'm sure it must be possible somehow?

    Best regards

    Brian

You can share the details of the server and the Linux operating system that is installed on the server? One way to access host OS iDRAC is by installing racadm software. After that, you can run racadm commands and configure iDRAC.

See below for more details on racadm

  • T310 without IDRAC6 warns of IDRAC communication failure, unable to access the BMC configuration

    Hello

I got through my company a T310 which has no IDRAC6 Express card or the company.

The LCD screen remains white/black constantly (tried with a spare one, same result) and when starting, it signals a failure of communication IDRAC6, which is normal since there is no card, then it restarts once more before entering Windows very well. He never offers me to enter a BMC configuration utility. I tried to reset the settings of the default BIOS nothing helps. OMSA reports no problem. Also updated the BIOS to the latest version 1.8.2 without modification. Fan is very noisy and I understand that by updating the BMC firmware, I have a chance to correct it, but I can't get into any configuration of the BMC.

In my view, there was a map iDRAC6 before, but it is no longer, so don't know how to clear this error. I read that an iDRAC6 Express card is OPTIONAL, so it shouldn't bother me on this subject.

==> I want to erase those mistakes to POST, being able to update BMC firmware (or iDRAC) so that I can get the fan to operate at acceptable noise levels.

    (1) how do the server to understand that there is no. IDRAC whatsoever and give me access to the BMC during POST configuration utility?

    (2) is it normal that the remains of white LCD Panel at any time? Start button / stop works very well, just none of the buttons works, never get any color/light. Is it possible that it is controlled by the IDRAC/BMC, which, in its current mess, can't drive? I understand that the LCD comes with the option Connect hot (not sure why btw), so that I think it should work regardless of the IDRAC are there or not.

I'm ready to buy an IDRAC6 Express card if there is a good chance that he will address this problem by eliminating the communication error and perhaps give me access to the config of the IDRAC. But I would really like to understand what's happening before you spend more money on it.

    Thank you!

    Max

    Hi Max,.

The question might actually be caused by a problem of motherboard, a functional PowerEdge server without IDRAC should not show the error message, more if the Ctrl + E option is not displayed during POST, it indicates an abnormal start of BMC.

Are what OS you running on the system? I don't know if you're aware, but the BMC update can be applied to the level of the OS, which are available here:

    http://Dell.to/HIBoTI

If the system is still under warranty, I highly recommend asking for you assistance and support if a motherboard replacement is required.

    Thank you.

  • vCenter Plugin - host and iDRAC on separate networks - Options?

    Hi all

We have 2 x R720 of virtual hosts with LOM IPs on the LAN (10.227.0.x) and runs in dedicated mode NIC iDRAC IPs on a physically separate management network - iDRAC. 10.227.2.x and is accessible from the management network. Dell vCenter Management Plugin is running and registered with vCenter a connection profiles - 1 by the server.

When I test the connection profile, he can talk to the IP of LOM, but fails on the IP of the iDRAC. Firmware and guarantee of stock also fail. IDRAC IPs are not the ping requests from the inside of the base of the plugin CentOS.

The script of http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&docid=597574 watch ProtocolEndpoint.bat is correctly resolve the IP of the iDRAC, but obviously he can't talk about it because the networks are not related. So, what are my options here:

    • Can I somehow configure iDRAC with a LAN and IP network management (probably spend far using the iDRAC dedicated NIC)?
    • Should I just temporarily change the iDRAC dedicated NIC on the LAN, Exchange patch cords, vCenter Plugin do and then come back?
    • Is it possible to set up a route network in the CentOS based for the plugin? Get root access to who seems to be not not possible (admin password does not work and account readonly is exactly that, and the command line does not work either) - this combined with some other fiddling network could work
    • Other options?

I would prefer if the plugin could speak to iDRAC R720 24/7 constant monitoring, but the main purpose of the plugin for us is occasional updates, amending thus temporarily iDRAC dedicated IPs is an option.

    Thank you

    Lukas

Update: works around this by temporarily putting iDRAC NIC on the local network.

  • Reset the Web GUI on the M600 iDRAC

    Hello

I have problems of access to the iDRAC web gui on a couple of blades M600 (needed to get the console and re - install the operating system).

I read on Google that racadm racreset running can solve the problem, but this seems to be only available on of m610?

When I ssh into the M600 blade I gives me a prompt SMASH CLP Console (v1.08) and can not find everything related to actually reset the interface itself idrac.

Is it still possible on a M600?  Otherwise, how can we reset the iDRAC interface?  It does not fundamentally on port 80 - unlike our other blades, also M600s.

Thank you very much in advance for any pointers or direction.

    Thank you

    SoC

    Rob,

An option to rest iDRAC on M600 is with the CMC. You can connect to the CMC and perform iDRAC reset page "Overview-> troubleshooting-> Reset chassis components. Select iDRAC reset for the corresponding housing option. You can also do CMC Racadm. Run "racadm racreset m - Server -" of SSH or using remote racadm and CMC IP.

What iDRAC firmware you have on M600? 1.65 is the last FW for iDRAC M600. If you do not have this FW on iDRAC can you update and check the same. You can download the same from

This wiki article has instructions on the use of the IPMI remote commands. I've skimmed the article and didn't see any reference to enable IPMI over LAN. Some of our CR/iDRAC require IPMI over LAN is enabled in order to use IPMI on a GROUND connection, you may need to allow that as well.

This isn't an error message. It's just a warning message. If you have shared active NIC you should have no interface shared as a member of a team of network or LAG.

  • iDRAC Active Directory integration

    Hello

I recently tried to integrate all our DRACs here with Active Directory to connect this way, rather than a generic username and the password shared by several employees. I downloaded the Dell Remote Access Configuration tool and it works beautifully. It is able to define the appropriate settings for many DRAC allow AD users to sign everything at once.

However, there is a slight problem that I can't seem to understand. On the DRACs 11 of the ~ 50 that I have configured this way, credentials fail. I thought maybe I was just fat-fingering the keys, but after having several people try both the holiday and work DRAC, there seems to be a problem with the way those 11 have been configured.

I did every configuration run in groups of about 10, and within each group, there was 1 or 2 that just did not work properly. After you have compiled a list of the 11 who did not work properly, I even tried to run through Setup once again, does not. And looking at the information provided to me, there is nothing to differentiate these from another ~ 40 who succeeded. There is so much iDRAC6s and iDRAC7s, and there are several different firmware versions. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if I have a card DRAC of the same type in the 11 that don't work, there are one of the same type, version of the firmware, model and in the 40 ~ that work. So, I can't see the problem.

I hope this is enough information to find someone has begun to help solve my problem. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, I would be very happy to have in your.

    Thank you

    Jacob

    Hello Jacob

If there was a problem with one or two iDRAC, I would say that this could be a hardware problem or a problem with a bad firmware image. Because what is happening across a large percentage of your question iDRAC is probably with the configuration of your network or security. I suggest you to check your network configuration to ensure that the iDRAC who have problems is able to communicate properly with the advertising server.

If you feel that there is a problem with the iDRAC so I suggest firmware reflashing, reset the default values and then reconfigure one of the iDRAC problem manually to see if the problem persists.

    Thank you
