If him external drive 'crashes' all partitioned drives likely would be lost?
I develop a backup strategy. Given partitoning one of my external drives to use in my backup plan. When external drives 'crash' is more typical than a single partition is destroyed or more typical that all the data on all of the scores is destroyed or not recoverable.
The backups need to be on a different physical disk than your original, and not on another partition on the same drive as your originals.
Partitioning a drive you is no advantage here, if the disk fails, all partitions crashes.

To do this you must have an Option for your motherboard at STARTUP of USB enabled in the BIOS.

Fast download of all pictures of iCloud on an external drive?
Hi all
This question was asked a few times, but no real progress seems to have been done in the past months, so I thought I would ask the question again, perhaps that someone has found a new 'thing '? :
Location:
-I would like to save all my (> 40 k pictures) photos currently in iCloud on an external drive.
-I don't have enough memory space on my Mac to Park gradually through 'Photos' (i.e. download all original to my mac-function)
-I want to directly choose a location (i.e., my external HARD drive) to store in.
What I tried:
-Via Safari and Chrome: connect to iCloud.com, select all images (via 'Shift' and select photo first + last) and direct downloads on the external drive.
Problem:
Since there are so many pictures, my Safari and my browsers Chrome "crashes" and do not complete the work (actually that they don't even start to download). If I select just say 5 pictures, it works in a jiffy.
Any ideas, I would be grateful?

Do not use iCloud.com.
Set up a library on your external drive, make the system library and download the photos, once you've done that you can keep it this way, keep as a secondary library and change the library system to another library or simply export all the photos and remove the library.

drive external hard crash panic kernel freeze and reboot
Hi, I write because I just had a problem with my external hard drive.
I have connected to my macbook pro to my external drive (raid 2 disc 0, 3 to, usb 3.0, western Digital, it appears as if it were 1 disk 3.5 "). I used this drive yesterday and several other times without any problem. I don't know why all of a sudden I saw the message on the upper right of the screen with the alert ' you incorrectly disconnected the disk XX "(is a kind of translation bc my os is in Italian) and after that the screen and the pointer of the mouse (with the ball of the Rainbow) stopped as if it were freezing. After a few seconds, black screen and the system rebooted! That's happened?
I tried again, this time with another external drive, samsung 1 TB usb 3.0. After only a few minutes it was connected... the same thing. Message on the upper right corner, gel, black screen, restart... Below you can see the log of 2 crash.
That's happened? HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

This seems to be a common problem:
Recently I had to reinstall Win 10 & then itunes. All the songs are on an external HD iTunes does not show a large number of songs that are in the folder on the external drive. I copied the .itl to the new itunes folder. I also tried holding down - from itunes shift - select a library. Any ideas how to be able to see the songs in the itunes on the hard drive folder in the itunes library?

See make a library of portable split. Have you copied the correct .itl file, or should you connect an external hard disk .itl file? If you can find the correct .itl, it should have all your songs and playlists. See the empty/corrupted after upgrade/crash iTunes library when the library has been altered for the first time with the new system. If you have to start creating your new library in an iTunes folder to the root of the external drive and move all the media inside... \iTunes\iTunes Media before adding to the library.

Cannot see all files on external drives (external HARD drive / flashdrives)
I do not see any folder on my external hard drive, I know that these files exist because it still shows how the same amount of space remaining left on this drive. Is the same for all flashdrives I plug it into my laptop
Edit * directories to the folders still exist, I can access when I type in my address bar, but I can't see the icon to click on it.

Windows 7 sometimes has trouble seeing external drives. Found one potential than me and other solution is to download and install the freeware Aomei Partition Assistant application, download it here: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 (only use the Direct download link).
Once installed, go to the readers in question and one both select and select Properties. It is her, no formatting or partitioning required. Just select the drive is often enough to get Windows 7 to recognize.

Windows Explorer (Win7Home) crashes while I read my external drive; Autorun has been disabled.
I have an external drive of My Book essential to 3 and while reading and you are trying to transfer offshore it Windows Explorer crashes on. It will crash when browsing or file transfer. Research led me to believe that it was because the AutoPlay. I have regedit-ed on external drives using NoDriveTypeAutoRun (which had to be created), and then changed value for all readers, then finally used MS Fix - it tool completely disable AutoPlay. All forms have not stopped this crash to occur. Can anyone help?

How can I partition my external drive? (Time Machine)

Time Machine doesn't accept my external drive (Seagate Backup Plus thin, 2 TB). It takes the format: "Mac OS extended (journaled):
So I searched Google and found out, that I have to partition the external flash drive.
So I opened the disk utility. But then I can't partition:
What can I do? I really need to use Time Machine.

The drive must be formatted with a GUID partition map, your's with a Master Boot record.
You can copy the content to the Seagate to your mac and format it correctly, partition and copy the data back?

I want to back up an internal hard drive (let's call it 'A') and (B) external drive using Time Machine. Both are 1 TB in size, so I bought a 2 TB external drive and created two partitions (C and D) on this subject, only to receive each backup. So:
A = internal hard drive
B = external drive (for "overflow" files)
C = partition to external drive for backups of A
D = partition to external drive for backups of B
My question is, can I set up Time Machine so that A back up C, every time the 2 TB drive is connected, and B backup up to D whenever the two external drives are connected? I thought it would be possible, but at the opening of the Time Machine preferences and selecting D for the first time I get a message saying:
"You want to stop backup up to 'C' and use"D"instead or back up at the same time?
If you use the two, Time Machine will take turns backup up to "C" and "D". »
I wonder if it would just be easier to return to a single partition on the hard disk of 2 TB and have the time machine to perform a backup of everything, that is, both A and B?

If in case you partition and drive "B" needs more than what is on the partition and drive 'A' don't you avoid warning.
update of the OS is fine, as it will give an output back to a previous TM operating system where you need it, but it is compatible across versions.

Hello! I have a big problem!
I copied the folder "Images" that is default in my Mac on an external drive.
Inside the 'Images' folder, there is the iPhoto folder.
When I reopened iPhoto, all photos disappeared from the iPhoto library and the external drive. I left alone with very little, very old photos.
Do you know where my pictures maybe? Photos in iPhoto has also lost all the flags...

What software (name and version) are you using? What format is the EHD? How is it connected? What exactly did you do step by step
Bottom line is that correctly copy a package does not remove anything so you did something wrong and we need to know exactly what you have and what you have done to help

2014 MBP crashes when the external drive connected
- MBP 2014 15 "El Capitan running.
- Connected crush 3 TB Seagate GoFlex Desktop drive.
- When I connect, drive starts, is recognized by Finder but the system locks and then hangs and then almost immediately.
- Was OK until I tried to transfer a large file of MPB to drive recently, but now accidents as described above on each connection attempt.
- (From startup using CMD - R) disk utility reports the MBP and external drive are good.
- I have the system event log recent accident this morning if it helps (if need to tips on what part of the content to send).

These must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Run the Console application in one of the following ways:

I use LRM6 with Win7. Cannot display all of the subfolders on external drive with photos. Can't see most recent used folders. How can I get all the records to display in the tree when the library module?

The left pane is a "choose one". "All photos" are just that. 'G' is a different option.
Lightroom is not a file Explorer. He knows only the drives and files that you have imported the photos of. If LR shows not all of the photos that are on your hard drive, it is because you did not import all photos.
If LR shows you a photo in "all photos" but do not show it in the folder you think he is in, go to "all photos", select the image, right click "view in the library folder. This will show you where LR think the picture is.

I know that, of course, that's a (usb2.0) connection slower than my c drive which is ssd, but what happens when I in develop mode? is the file copied into memory or lr works with the external drive permanently? As long as the catalogue LR, file Previews and the camera Raw Cache not located on your C: drive faster shouldn't you see a loss of performance module develop. The library module, you can build Standard previews when importing and updating when editing images. After modifying a group of images in the develop module, select all the and go to the menu library > previews > Build Standard - Sized Previews. If you need to return to a group of images to 1:1, select them and choose Build previews of 1:1. Keep in mind that the library module should be used to review and rating of groups of images because it uses the already rendered previews. The develop module makes the images in real time. What is significantly slower. Following these procedures of workflow you shouldn't have performance problems with the images on an external drive.
