  Looks like you can't synchronize the pictures located on your external drive.  I need a little more information about your configuration to provide a better answer.  However, we will try to sync your photos through the section of the file through the article below.  You just need to direct iTunes to where your photos are stored on your external drive.

  If your photos are in a folder

  1. Select "Choose a folder" from the context menu.
  2. Choose the folder where you store your photos.
     
  3. Click on apply.

  You can arrange photos in subfolders to create photo albums.

  Yes, you can remove the file from the imported image, if you have imported the image as managed.  IE preferences in ave Photos settled on "import: copy items to the photo library" being the default.

  Hi Robert!

  Looks like you want to make a backup during import. If this is the case, you can designate a different location for a second copy when importing.

  

  1. Check the mark a second copy of box in the management of the files Panel and choose your external drive in the menu drop-down
  2. Then you set regular destination of Lightroom in the Destination panel.

  However, if you mean that you want in the foreground images in Lightroom, but have them physically located on an external drive, then all you need to do is choose this drive in the Destination panel. Lightroom Catalog can be on a different drive.

  I find it useful, however, to use the automatic backup in file management Panel in case.

  Ok. Here's my problem. My Macbook Pro has a 250 GB hard drive and is now complete. I noticed by iPhoto library is 90 GB. Ideally, I want this 90 Go back if by saving my pictures on an external drive. I would then download the entire library to iCloud Photo so I could access it from my iPhone / iPad / MackBook Pro when I don't have access to the external HD at home. Is this possible?

  I signed up for 200 GB of space iCloud and turned on iCloud Photo. About 700 MB of downloaded photos, but that's all up to now that no more have downloaded. Why the entire library do not download?

  Ideally, I want all 90 GB stored in the cloud, so I'll switch to 90 GB library on my laptop on an external drive to keep a safe backup who will give me the 90 GB back.   I'm totally frustrated.  I used LR for years without problem until in recent months.   I had folders disappear from my catalog.  Import photos from my card to my hard drive using the LR import feature.  I then note my photos, put some in the collections, use keywords and perform a basic treatment.  However when I get back later - the folder and photos are no longer in the catalog or anywhere in LR.  The photos remain on my hard drive in the same folder that I copied them originally.  I can import again in LR, but lose all the editing, cataloging, etc, I did the first time.  This has happened regularly in the past months.  Tonight, I have imported some new photos and realized that 13 files and hundreds of photos that I took 6/14-8/6 were missing from the catalog and the LR but are right where they are supposed to be on my hard drive.   This isn't a problem with linking a file in LR in the folder on the hard disk - file and the photos are not anywhere in the LR catalog...  I have no idea how to solve this problem.   I have no idea how to solve this problem.  Any ideas?  Help?

  Do a search on your drive and see how many catalogues are about it. You are looking for *.lrcat. Sounds more like you have several catalogs and or you are using a type of system of automatic backup and for some reason LR among the old default catalog backups.

  Either that or the catalog is being corrupted, which means you have a hardware problem. Could be the hard drive or RAM.

  Deleted photos are kept for a week by default. If you really want to get rid of them now, use the command empty the trash inside the Photos.
