If I don't use that works I need to install Office are there updates to the common files, I need

From the Internet, I received several updates of Office files with 'security update' in the name of the file.  I don't have room to keep loading these updates, if I don't need them for other programs to work properly

Hi nancymosley,

Works updates appear sometimes as Office updates.   If you do not have Office installed, then the automatic update feature should not offer updates for Office - but if you have installed works, it will offer to those that apply to the works.  If you wish, you can learn more about the update before installing it (and it should tell you whether it applies to works or office and what it does); However, if they apply to the works and updates of security you really have to install them to your system's security.  If this is the case and you have doubts about a particular update, after the name and the number here and we'll see if we can help determine you if it is necessary for the work.

If you have not installed Office but simply do not use it, then you will receive updates for Office as well as works.  If you do not have an office, to avoid this problem I suggest you uninstall Office (all versions you have installed) and who can fix the problem (except as noted above).  If you want to have something like office works also available "in case", then after you have uninstalled Office, ask the free OpenOffice www.openoffice.org and you will be covered and will not get not the Microsoft updates specifically for the office.  This release also lots of space on your disk space seems to be a matter of concern.

Although it is extremely unlikely for a security issue to occur through office if you are not using Office and it is just installed, it is remotely possible (but very, very unlikely-, I'm almost tempted to say it wouldn't happen).  But if you never use it, then you can cause problems without these updates installed.  If really, you do not want to install the updates and want to stay safe, and are certain that you do not use Office (if you decide to do, then you will need to install all updates before you do anyway to avoid security problems and other), then I highly recommend that uninstall you it simply.  I guess you have discs re - install if you ever decide that you need.  If not, then you can always still use (install if you don't have it already) the free OpenOffice which covers most of the common programs of office (with the exception of Outlook).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
