If someone could correct? 'Windows 7.vmx' is not a valid virtual machine configuration file

Hello world

I seem to have what seems to be a fairly common problem. "I try to boot my windows 7 VM and I get this error message: '/Users/.../Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmx' is not a valid virtual machine configuration file.

Someone would be nice enough to make me a new windows7.vmx file? I saw in other places around here, but I don't know how to do it myself. I enclose the .log files and my windows7.vmx file, so a snapshot of the folder "contents of packaging.

Thank you so, so much! I wish bake you cookies, but unfortunately their delivery might be a bit complicated

Have a look here - which will have to explain how do it yourself

I just powered up VMWare Fusion running Windows Vista and got the error "/ Users / my name/Documents/Virtual Machines / Windows Vista.vmwarevm / Windows Vista.vmx ' is not a valid virtual machine configuration file

    It worked fine earlier today.

I saw where WoodyZ aida veganjustice apparently this same problem in July.  If you need me to take a screenshot of the Virtual Machine Bundle package, please explain how to do because I'm not technically literate.  But I need this to work!

The attached file "Windows Vista.vmx" created the vmware - 0.log.  Simply place the attached file in the Document of Virtual Machine Package, and you should be good to go.

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

Unfortunately Apple does not allow to run a virtual mac OS X on non-Apple brand hardware.

Because this violates Apple EULA (and as such VMware Community terms of use), the problems you have with trying to run OS X using VMware Workstation cannot be discussed in this forum.

    Hope you understand,

  • 'vm.vmx' is not a valid virtual machine configuration file

My VM crashed the other day, and now I can't open it. I did some research online and found that this often means that the data in the vmx file has been deleted. I checked and of course, there was nothing in the file. A little further research says that I have create a new virtual machine from an existing machine, which would save my data. I tried to follow the instructions, but use the free version of the reader of the VM, which does not seem to create a computer virtual of an existing file.

If the free version does not allow this, I'd be very grateful if someone could put the steps. If not, is there another way to recover the file? I saw a thread that suggested another virtual machine and then copy the vmx file, but I wonder how identical the two machines must do to make it work. There was also a warning that it was an unconventional solution. Not knowing what all is in the vmx file, I don't want to rush into this and destroy my data, much of which is not recoverable. Yes, I should have made a backup - too late now.

    Thank you for the ideas.

That is absolutely right. Everything you have to do, is to create a new virtual machine with the option "Install OS" later (OS requires no installation) and then replace its virtual disk (hard files) with the existing one.

Please consider saving the current virtual disk in case something does not work as expected!

  • Error message: .vmx is not a valid virtual machine configuration file

Unfortunately, during the installation of a program to test my hard drive ran out of space and decided that it was time to stop.

When I tried to start the virtual machine to the message again ".vmx is not a configuration file valid virtual machine" has been posted.

After an investigation, for the virtual machine's .vmx file is completely empty.

Sorry if this is a duplicate question. I saw him pop - up a couple of times in the past (here, here, here and here, although I suspect there are a lot more there, also sorry that I'm not sure (too much or too little information?) hyperlink label). The general answer is that the log files must be set for a person to have an eye on them.

I have attached the files just in case this is necessary, but I also tried to find a way to do it myself (so I didn't not wasting all the time).

There are several articles (here, here, here, here and I started even wondering about this one).

However, I am not familiar with the work of command line linux/unix (SUDO always puts me on the edge). I don't know why I would need something like PuTTY for a windows application?

Other solutions suggested using Add > New > custom to navigate to the file hard features and rebuild from there.

Unfortunately the option or the area to select the hard existing escaped me. Suggestions? Is there a large blind spot in my vision?

    Thanks for the help.

    Version 9.0.3 build-1410761 running on a 64-bit Windows 7 system.

    Hello

This message appears usually when the JVM cannot allocate sufficient memory. It may be the consequence of the stage Builder set - Xmx1024m command line: this is currently followed by default TLD-4515 and will be fixed in the next few weeks.
For the time being you can give a try on a system with more memory. Moreover, what is your current hardware configuration?

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

  • Could not open the virtual machine

I used the customer convertor to create this virtual machine from one which works well on ESxi.  When I try to open on Win7-64 machines running vmplayer 3.1.4 I get the following error:

    Could not open the virtual machine: file "D:\Data\VM Machines\WW S2008_32\WW S2008_32.vmx 10_1 10_1" line 1: syntax error.

    Any ideas?

"" "WW 10_1 S2008_32.vmx.zip" attached file contains the "WW 10_1 S2008_32.vmx" file created under VMware Player 3.1.4 and was then modified to reflect the values of parameter that you might want to stay the same as uuid etc.  Start VMware Player and then check the settings before running the virtual machine.
