  • Re-install Snow Leopard to a notice of Imac I3 mid-2010?

    Hello

I have already received some good answers in another thread, but it had a different title, so I thought that I post here and maybe some members will more experience with this:

I just bought a used Imac which is currently being shipped to me.  Here are the specs: mid-2010 21.5 inches screen, model A1311, series: W8114294DAS, Intel Core I3 3.06 ghz processor.

He will come running to El Capitan, but they advised me to wipe the drive and reinstall the original operating system, which is the snow leopard, and then upgrade from there to El Capitan, with my own Apple ID. However, it seems to be difficult with this particular model. If the computer is initially supplied with Snow Leopard 10.6.4. My drive of detail might not work for the re - install.  I was told that Apple would be able to ship me a custom. I've also read about yet another thread that maybe these models came with a slightly different version of Snow Leopard, and this is why the retail CD may not work, even if the computer came with version 10.6.3. and it would be better to get a custom. Is this true?

Then there may be a problem with an update of the firmware that the computer may or may not have and which could cause problems (not allow Snow Leopard install at all, or instead to install Lion). Is it possible to say if he had this update and maybe disable it before attempting to erase and install Snow Leopard?

Does anyone have advice/stories to share before I actually try it? Or what would be the best way to go about this? I thought that I would try my SL CD detail first, and I hope that it will work. Otherwise, I could order the CD on measure and try this one. If I can't erase, at least I didn't damage, but what happens if I erase the disc, but then failed to install Snow Leopard? I was left with a blank computer. Or I would be able to install it once the disc has been erased?

Someone also said using SuperDuper may erase the disc elsewhere or at least to make a back-up? I have not used before. There is no personal information on the computer again, I would try to re - install before anything else, so I just need a way to install El Capitan under my Apple ID, then I'll be able to install updates, or even a new operating system, as it becomes available.

Is there a risk to try to use my SL CD detail if it allows me to erase and install (such as the installation of the 'wrong' version of Snow Leopard)?

Here is the link to the original thread: purchases used Imac tips?

    Thanks for any idea!

You can try this much easier.

1 - Connect to App store with your apple ID.

2 - install download 10.11 - he will say that you have already installed just 10.11 to proceed.

    3. create a usb installation program.

4 - start the installer - erase hard drive and install a clean copy of 10.11

    5. place the iMac with your apple ID.

Create an installer for OS X - Apple support bootable

  • rMbp mid-2014, external display with the quality of the retina

    Hello!

I buy a Dell 24 "external display to connect to my rMBP with QHD (2 560 x 1 440) resolution.

    http://www1.euro.Dell.com/content/products/ProductDetails.aspx/Dell-u2515h-monit or? c = en & l = en & s = dhs & cs = frdhs1

I have connected the screen to my mbp with the mini display / port cable supplied with the display screen. It works well, but I don't have quality of retina at all (the images seems good but the text is terrible)

The text have a bad record as a retina screen, and it makes a big difference when I spend my retina display to the external display which is not comfortable at all.

I though that this kind of screen was OK to view the retina... but I was wrong. I try to connect with minidisplay / display and HDMI! HDMI made was worse than minidisplay. The res in the system report show was good 2 560 x 1 440. I even try the hack to force with the patch, but always bad RGB render text...

More important, I want to, it's having the same record as retina on the text and images. What external display can be good for this?

    My budget is 450-€500

    Thank you

The size in pixels of the screen is not mean much: a small display to 2560 x 1440 pixels seems much sharper than a widescreen 2560 x 1440 pixels.

Your retina Macbook has something like 220 dpi (DPI in English), the Dell screen only 117. If you want the same sharpness, you will need to choose a display with 220 dpi. But then, everything on the screen will look much smaller. Here is a tool that allows you to get the idea: http://dpi.lv/

  • iMac 21 inch mid-2010 with OSX 10.9.5 4 GB

Have inherited an inch Imac 21 mid-2010 with OSX 10.9.5 running - I don't know much about Mac computers so no idea if snow leopard etc or what!

This iMac is not iCloud drive available to sync with the latest iPhones etc.

Is it possible to upgrade the operating system on this iMac to run the latest apps & iCloud etc.

Don't really know where to start...

    Thank you

You have OSX Mavericks. The next OS is Yosemite 10.10 and 10.11 El Capitan.

You can upgrade the free OS for Mac by the opening of the App Store on the computer. When you click on "Updates", there is a large window which shows the next OSX update for your computer.

On a computer from 2010, the most recent operating systems may appear slower. It really depends on the State of your hard drive and also the RAM. With 4 GB of RAM, you shouldn't have a problem (every BONE just 2 GB). However, and the older hard drive may have trouble keep in touch with the requirements of the operating system, which makes the computer slower.

The best thing to do is to make a backup of data is installed on the computer, then just go for it. Worse comes to worse you can always restore the computer with the back facing upwards.

  • Connect the Middle 2010 21.5 "iMac for mid 2011 21.5" iMac in target display mode

    Hello

I looked for an answer to my question and I'm not 100% clear, so I ask your help please.

I have an iMac 21.5 "2010 middle which I want to connect to an iMac 21.5" 2011 mid (which I think the purchase) in order to have two screens. I know it can be done with these two models but the iMac 2010 has a Mini Displayport connector and the 2011 has a Thunderbolt connection, so I don't know if it's possible. I don't mind which screen is the main.

    Any help is appreciated

    Thank you

In fact, it can be done from the mid 2010 21.5 "iMac doesn't have a Thunderbolt port. See the information in use your iMac as a display with the target - Apple Support Display Mode

Course 3 TB hard drives are compatible with this system? Problems with the temperature sensor? Recommendations for the replacement of brand/model?

N ° 2 TB is, according to me, the bigger you can install. Data transfer you only use on an external drive and delete from in-house to create more usable space.

    Free space on hard drive

    1. see Lion-Lion/mountain/storage of the Mavericks display.

    2. you can remove the data from your file except for the folder/Home/Library /.

    3. visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the free space on your hard drive.

    4. also see release space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

5 see where my disk space gone?.

    6 see the storage view.

You must empty the trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.

You should consider to replace the drive with a larger. Check out OWC of readers, tutorials and boxes tools.

Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are.

  • Reset foolproof Mid 2010 iMac

Hey people and our apologies in advance to those of you who are aware, I am the fool who needs protection against

I am trying to reset the iMac family as it has been rumbling along for close to 6 years accumulating all the usual garbage. Multiple users, multiple libraries etc. My feeling is to do a factory reset and then spend some time setting the system manually rather than Time Machine etc. I know it's rather long, but I want to make sure that whatever it is on the iMac is here to design rather than a hangover or an oversight. I will also be implemented as a user to avoid the trash in a triple that we had before.

so... the question is how to do the factory reset without risk. I took all the files that I want to disable external hard drives and I have TM backups too. My only concern is because it is a 2010 that I have more no disks. IS this a problem or I'll be able to use the Restorer online?

    Machine - iMac (27-inch, mid 2010), 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB, macOS Sierra 10.12

    Thanks in advance

If the computer is running Sierra what you can do is to restart in the recovery (command-R on startup) Partition

Then, open disk utility and erase the internal HD ATTENTION! This will clean the HD.

Then close THE, and then select install Mac OS and select the internal HD. This will install a clean version of Mac OS X on the computer.

Once OS X is installed, select Restart and make sure that you choose the HD internal as boot drive. Once the computer restarts with your new version of Sierra you can start to install your applications and restore your files, settings, etc...

  • 10.6.8 resettlement on iMac 21.5 mid 2010

Good afternoon everyone!  I was given a used iMac 21.5 mid 2010 with OSX installed 10.6.8.  However, I tried to clean this computer completely to remove all information of the previous owner, connections, etc.  In my efforts, I discovered that the optical drive is functional (probably why I was given the machine lol).  I also discovered that 10.6.8 does not have the feature to reinstall from the internet (command-R).  I tried the optical drive on my Mac Pro Tower sharing, but apparently it does not work if the machine trying to share has an optical drive (work or not apparently).  I managed to create an installation USB (USB 3.0 Flash Drive, 16 gig) using my DVD of Installation of Snow Leopard existing.  However, when I start the iMac in Mode safe mode and then run the install from the USB key, it's going well for a few minutes and then falls into the white screen with the apple logo.  I'll be patient and let Cook awhile or am I out of luck?  Thank you very much in advance for your advice!

Why not just get a DVD external burner (I'd purchase OWC) and install from there? This is the good method to use if the internal SuperDrive does not, either that or replace the SuperDrive.

NOTE:  I just thought of another method, using target disk Mode to install. Connect the two machines together using TDM and then do an erase and install. If for any reason you are not familiar with the TDM please click

  • I think to buy a new MacBook to replace my MacBook pro mid-2010, which still runs but becomes slow.  They say the current MacBook pro without retina display (which I don't think I need) is an old system and may be obsolete soon - true?

I'm buying a new MacBook to replace my mid-2010 MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo, 4 GB of memory, which always runs, but becomes slow.   I don't think I need retina display (if I have a lot of photos and films on the subject), but I was told that the MacBook Pro without screen retina was an old system that Apple could not support much longer. Is this true?

    Barbara cfrompa says:

but I was told that the MacBook Pro without screen retina was an old system that Apple could not support much longer. Is this true?

Apple only can answer such a question, and the terms of use for these forums discourage us discuss what Apple plans to do.

I too have a MBP 2010.  I installed an SSD and that increased performance.  Consider that as an option.

You may experience other problems that slows down your MBP.  Before commit you the important cash for a new MBP, examine the potential software problems that may be responsible for the poor performance.  With the SSD, my 2010 works better than the day he came out of the box.

    Ciao.

Spec'd correct., tested and reliable Mac RAM DO can be bought online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory, directly from the site Crucial (crucial.com) or OWC (macsales.com).

Already mentioned several times in this post of the thread.

Any other RAM from other sources and manufacturers (except OWC or Crucial) is questionable, at best.
