  • migration of events imovie to new Mac without using the Migration Wizard

    Hello

I want to do the following:

Migrate from iMovie events of an old MacBook Pro (10.6.8 Snow Leopard) created using iMovie ' 08

    TO

(Yosemite 10.10.5) iMac with iMovie 10.1.1

All events are stored on 3 external drives (Nothing on the internal drive of MBP). Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

The destination is another external drive, with Thunderbolt interface. I copied the serious events in 3 separate directories, but not tried opening them with iMovie. Wasn't sure if there was data stored elsewhere (in ~/Library for example) that might be needed; In addition, I didn't know if I could manually merge the 3 separate records events iMovie with the Finder, or need to do somehow with iMovie.

I manually moved everything some time ago - I haven't used Wizard migration; I didn't have enough disk space attached to the iMac when I moved everything, so I carried on using iMovie on the old MBP.

I googled and read several articles on the events to an external drive / to new Mac, but none of them totally covers my starting position and desired end result.

Would appreciate any insight how to go on this issue, and how and where exactly iMovie keeps all the data you need.

    The articles are (among others):

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT202853 "update of projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014).

http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/#mov3ac6d42c "copy or move a video in your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/kb/PH2302 "iMovie 11: copy or move video from your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT203049 "move your iMovie for Mac library (2014).

If your iMovie ' 08 projects contain media from outside the record of events (for example, from iPhoto or iTunes) then we must first using iMovie ' 08 on your old computer to "consolidate" your support so that everything is copied in the events folder.  Details for the iMovie 11 version can be found at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9

I don't have the ' 08 version help files, but I think it will be the same - you can check with your old Mac.

"Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

FireWire adapters Thunderbolt are available for about € 30, which would use these drives on your new Mac.

In fact, you can copy the project files and events with the viewfinder of an old external drive to the root level of the new new external drive (which should be Apple - formatted), but it is probably best to do from in iMovie ' 08, as described in the help of Apple.   Do 'copy' and not 'move' - this way you always have a backup of the original on the old disks in case of problems.

I would like to convert the project files and the events of each of the 3 discs one at a time, creating 3 libraries separate iMovie 10.1.1.  You can always rearrange these in iMovie 10 after you have everything updated and verified.  Some people have reported the update of blocking process at any given time, so update in small batches of events and projects is much better than trying to do everything at the same time.

In fact I would try to first simply copy one (or a small group) project and its events associated with the new external with iMovie ' 08 HD then update to ensure that it will work - from iMovie ' 08 for iMovie 10.1.1 is a big jump.

    Good luck!

    Geoff.

  • I want to install CS5.5 I bought a new Mac. I downloaded the software, but the installation wizard says wrong serial number, even if it is one of my Adobe ID > screen products. What's wrong?

I bought it through my college in 2011 and I now want to install the software on my new Mac. I copied the serial number of the software directly from my Adobe ID login. What I am doing wrong. (BTW, I called support phone Adobe and hung up the first time after 20 minutes of waiting.) The second time the representative me CS is only supported by 'chat '. A web discussion forum is not 'cat').

If you have only one installation enabled then you can avoid probably disable the one you currently have.  You will receive a message about exceeding the activations if this has been a problem.

If the school has provided this software as a special offer you can check with them.  In some cases, special offers are limited and the license does not last forever.  If you paid the price full student then this is not the case.

  • I just bought a new Mac and fancy external drive. Because I'm not a geek, I'm not interested in the many fabulous creative cloud features. I don't see a button for the purchase of LR6 by himself on Adobe. Does this mean I should buy elsewhere (B & H)

I just bought a new Mac and fancy external drive. Because I'm not a geek, I'm not interested in the many fabulous creative cloud features. I don't see a button for the purchase of LR6 by himself on Adobe. Does this mean I should buy elsewhere (B & H) LR6? If I buy Adobe's LR6, is there a price for LR6 special bundle with the last ch?

Hi Sharon. The bundle special price for Lr and Ps is via the Cloud creative photography Plan. There is no special rate for the non - CC Lightroom version. You can buy the no - CC here version: products

  • Mac App Store, upgrade to the purchased Lr5 Lr4. Now migrated to the new Mac. No Lr4 to validate the installation of the LR5

A few years ago, I buy Lr4 via the Mac App Store. And later, I bought LR5 upgrade through Adobe online.

Today, I have a new Mac and I've logged into my account adobe and redownloaded Lr5 and got the serial number. But when I install it it asks Lr4 serial number which I don't have and never had. I read the article on how to do it and it says that it requires the presence of the version of the App Store or the Lr4 at installation time. But I have more that I have unintalled some time ago and Adobe has removed from the App Store so I can't redownload it. So, I'm stuck.

    Any ideas?

    OK then read this article.

Adobe Lightroom 4 brings the Mac App Store | Macworld

    It says clearly,

In a blog post on the Adobe Web site, the company noted that the price of upgrade for future versions of Lightroom are not available for those who buy the Mac App Store version, due to the current lack of Apple for the support of such a system; In addition, users can receive updates later than they would through Adobe.

So I guess you'll have to pony up the full price of $149 for Lightroom 5.

You could try to go to help > Lightroom registration click on the next button, see if there is a serial number entered (it will be stars *) then go head and register. Once registered, the serial number should appear on the Adobe Web site once you have logged in with your Adobe ID

  • I am entitled to an upgrade, as I have CS3 I want to buy a new mac and install the upgrade on the new computer. How can I do this?

I am entitled to an upgrade, as I have CS3 I want to buy a new mac and install the upgrade on the new computer. How can I do this?

If you get two new machines and the CS3 allows you to get the price reduced for a year then you should certainly pursue it.  However, I always recommend people to try before you buy.  When you get the new machines install the trial version and make sure that it works for you correctly.  Once you have confirmed it correct functions, then you can purchase the subscription.

  • New mac connects to the time capsule but does not see the old backups

My new MacBook Pro connects perfectly to my Time Capsule, but it is not all backups that are there.  I can't scroll through them as I can with my old MacBook Pro.  The MacBook still connect to Time Capsule well and see and scroll through all the backups it.

    No idea why?

I wish that my new mac to be able to go back through the backups as does my current MacBook.

    Thanks for any help.

Since El Capo OS a lot stricter security.

You will generally not be able to simply use a backup Time old Machine as you did in the past.

Backups made by different computers must be used via migration assistant... not just opened in TM.

However, you can always copy a file or folder, you must manually via the Finder... ride the sparsebundle and access... If you have issues copy folder in the form of TM and then paste it in Finder... There are different ways to trick the it.

  • Missing originals after copying photos for a new mac external HARD disk library. How to fix this?

Move the library of photos hosted on an external HARD during a new mac disc.

I can open the app and import new pictures, but I can't change any of my previous photos because he complains that the original is not found. The "Use as system library" button is gray which implies that the current library of photos on the new mac is defined as the system library.

I still have access to the external HARD drive that I imported a couple hundred new photos for the new mac.

    How can I fix?

How did you set up your library.  You use a library "referenced"?

If Yes, then you have lost the links with the original files.

  • Putting swap on the road of new Mac Pro

Last week, I installed a pretty new EVO 850 500 GB SSD Samsung cloned successfully man requiring 320 startup disk to it.

As you can imagine, for the past week, I've been myself patting on the back, bragging to my friends and usually insult to the speed of light by Early 2008 Mac Pro 3.1 now working at.

It's seriously that quickly now, that I fear he will soon realize it's very own form of consciousness and maybe try to destroy the planet or something.

A week on however I wake up to the news that Apple will release their new OS Sierra, so excited, I rushed to know more.

Hhhuuummm, is not compatible with Mac Pros more than 2010.

Now having been a Mac owner and user since the first Macintosh, I am quite aware that if Apple is no longer supported your machine with a BONE, the end is near. Pretty overwhelming after only a week ago, he rose to the status of demigod.

Thus, faced with the imminent disappearance of my 3.1 and unable to splash the ridiculous $11, 000AUD wanting by Apple for a new, same spec'd Mac Pro, I have to look maybe a 2012 second hand model or similar.

My question is this. Can I just remove the new Samsung SDD and older Classic readers of my old 3.1 and jump in the bays of a new 5.1 and expect it to work?

While I'm confident enough that older readers won't be a problem, it's the Start Up disc (with the El Capitan on it) bothers me. Is the disk drive Start Up inseparably linked to my old 3.1 and unable to start a more recent machine unless I have format and start again?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

You 'Da Man' Troy, you 'Da Man '... I went through what you've been through as well. Had a Quad core of 2008 that was not serious, but is not a measure quite, so went with a 12 core opportunity pro mac, which, although the phenomena up a little bit on the handles (shipping container was ugly) now works correctly. First, back up your stuff. That is true with any computer-back it upward. Hard drives can and fail, usually without much warning.  Secondly, what you propose should work. The startup disk is not inseparably and absolutely linked to your old 3.1 at all. I'm sure that you have activated the TRIM and do all that. I see no reason why it wouldn't work. That's what I did with my replacement hard drive, only it popped in my recent Mac pro. The only difference is that the sleds by car are somewhat Pluss, and so it will not work in the other. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver, screws don't go, so when you're ready, undo the readers from the old machine, attach them to the new drive sleds and drag em in (by making sure, of course, that they are the correct way around). Assuming that there is a player any of your recent mac pro, you might be able to use Internet recovery * or make some kind of bootable Setup program and put it on a dvd or a USB key. Snow Leopard (10.6.8 I think) will allow you to get at least to the App store, and from there, you can install El Capitan. After you back up your stuff, you can use Migration Wizard and Time Machine, which are integrated into the operating system, to transfer your stuff on and off re - authorize your new Mac (and off allowing the old a) to use the iTunes store and all that, you should be good to go, and more if you want, you can put a blu ray in your new mac (you may have to the Scout for the software to play blu - ray even if - this feature is not built in)

hope this helps you - I think I paid about $4 322 Canadian with a monitor, and oddly enough, the guy I bought it second hand me that it probably came from Australia...

    * you will need to connect an Ethernet cable to the back of your Mac pro for this... A Wi - Fi connection is not cut it... too slow and capricious

  • Clone of old mac to new mac

Can someone give me instructions step by step to clone my old mac to my new mac so it automatically recognizes all the devices (printer, Time Capsule, NAS, etc.) that made my old mac. In other words, I want my new Mac to work exactly like my old - except, of course that the new will be better and faster.

    Thank you.

the best way to approach the connection with 3 devices, is using the drivers for your new OS machines by developers. both systems can have differences between them and simply force the old system to the new system settings is a guarantee that they will work as you would like that.

Migration/time Machine Assistant can work for some of this, but if if fails, you will need to get the correct software for your new OS systems.
