  I am having some problems with After Effects I can't understand. I have a video in .avi that loads and plays fine in itself, but when I import to change in After Effects 5.5, I get strange during playback, and even artifacts reflect in the final export.   I'm quite new, I've only done a videoproject and it was in Premiere Pro CS4. Now, I have a new machine and have the two first Pro CS5 and Adobe After Effects. I started to learn the AE in some videos and it's quite impressive what you can do.  So I hope that I can use AE to improve my videos.

  My question is, will I do the project in PPCS5 and then connect to EI to make special effects on clips or I'll do the whole project in After Effects?

  If I choose to AE for the project, I'll miss certain features of Premiere Pro?

  It depends on what you do in your project. I did pieces that have been entirely graphic animated started in AE, then went to the first. However, if you do a science fiction film, you should start first then go to AE.

  I very rarely would export a clip of first use in AE. There are ways much, much easier to work with Premiere and AE. You can use dynamic links, which some people like.   Of course: select rasterize the layer switch continuously.  Looks a bit Sun with the Sun said on this subject.  If your layer is truly vector - not only a bitmap passed Illustrator - the edges will look great.

  I think what is happening here is that 3ds Max does not all the color management. Most programs that use color (including After Effects and Photoshop) management assume that a PNG will be in the video space and an EXR in linear space. If 50% gray in PNG format is 0.5 (127 in the 8-bit 0-255) during EXR is around 0.18. Unless you set things properly, 3ds Max will not do that, but write 0.5 EXR and PNG. Since After Effects is expected to 0.18, the EXR will appear too bright.

  If you want EXR to resemble the PNG, the simple way is to keep the project space the value None to work and check preserve RGB on the EXR.

  The ideal workflow is to preview that your Max is rendered with a gamma of 2.2 applied during the creation of your scene. Which is what After Effects is by default when you import an EXR.
